FOUR shows at Mercury Lounge!
"Argos - unlike most bands that try, which is most bands these days - can successfully appropriate other bands and other bands' songs as source material. Satan name-drops U2, Brian Eno, The Beatles and Stones ([Monday] night [at Mercury Lounge], he added The Beach Boys and Ramones to "What a Rush," Razorlight to "Demons Out!") and steals old titles for new songs ("The Passenger," "Twist and Shout"). Bobby Fuller gets reworked in "Mysterious Bruises:" "I fought the floor and the floor won." It's because Art Brut's self-conscious mission statement - look at us, we formed a band - was itself a retreat into music. They're allowed to bitch about pop charts ("Demons" was introduced as "a civilized customer complaint"). The realization that "those are just records that our parents owned" seems like blasphemy in this world, and not because it involves John & Paul & Mick & Keef." [heartonastick]Four down, one to go! Art Brut played their fourth of five NYC shows at Mercury Lounge last night (6/4). Their fifth, with Jeffrey Lewis and Keith TOTP, is tonight, Friday, June 5th. really awesome show! Arrived their for last 3-4 songs of phil and osophers who were pretty damn good. Cymbals eat guitars are great live! Keyboards rocked. Art brut was the main course and it seemed everyone got their satisfying fill. Great night

god...cymbals eat queeftars....so annoying. hope they dont open for any good bands coming up and i can avoid them at all costs.
the singer...WHAT A DOUCHE. i love how he has to act like he's sooo tiredddd after every song because he's rocking so hard...or maybe he's tuning his guitar too hard? so we can hear their "indie" blandless at a perfect level?
they should have stayed a weezer cover band.

I've been to all 4 nights and after TV on the Radio tonight am going to the finale.
All of the shows have been fantastic. I was/am not the biggest Art Brut fan by any stretch of the imagination but they have been an extremely fun show.

Fun show (Wed), but the sound at the ML kinda sucks. EV's vocals weren't all that clear.
Anybody know if they travel with a sound engineer? Btw, Tiny Masters were fab. Except for the fact that that she is a cute girl with braces, the singer/bass player looks like a 5' version of Joey Ramone. I dig their sound tho............
