Birdsongs of the Mesozoic began as a side project by Roger Miller and Martin Swope, who were members of the Boston band Mission of Burma. They were joined by Rick Scott and Erik Lindgren for their debut recording, a self-titled EP, in 1983. With Mission of Burma dissolving at about this time, Birdsongs of the Mesozoic became a full-time band. The group released the LP Magnetic Flip in 1985 and an EP, Beat of the Mesozoic, in 1986. [Allmusic]Birdsongs of the Mesozoic are playing Mercury Lounge in NYC on July 24th (tickets), and KungFu Necktie in Philadelphia the next night (tickets).
Mission of Burma are playing the Williamsburg Waterfront on July 12. Birdsongs videos below...

Mission of Burma is a nice band. I shall surely check out this new project.

FYI - I don't think the Burma members have been involved in Birdsongs for a long time. The other 2 guys have continued with new members.

Miller and Swope haven't been in Birdsongs for years and years.

If I recall correctly, Roger Miller had left Birdsongs by the end of the 80s and Swope not long after that. Their music is still interesting though, and worth checking out.

Whether or not Miller is involved in recent gigs it has always been Lindgren's project. Miller and Swope were only involved in a couple of records in the mid 80s.
With all this information at our fingertips why are people more stupid than ever?

This is the second time i've tried to post to this- my first posting was not accepted....
So let's try yet again...
Roger is indeed reuniting with Birdsongs to play these shows. The Birdsongs' lineup will use vintage equipment, and play the '80s material featured on the band's retrospective, *Dawn of the Cycads*, released by us (Cuneiform). "Dawn of the Cycads" is a two-CD reissue of Birdsongs' early recordings on Ace of Hearts.
Reviews of the CD are online at Audiophile Audition and The Big Takeover.
The band was originally co-founded by Miller and Lindgren and included other Burma members. The early material was written by Miller, Martin Swope, Erik, and Rick Scott. So yes, Birdsongs on tour will play Roger's music, as well as that written by the others. This IS a very special tour- and I hope this clears up the confusion.
