Blonde Redhead & Olof Arnalds @ Prospect Park, NYC - pics
photos by Chris La Putt

"Despite a severe thunderstorm as hundreds of hipsters and regular people lined up to get into Friday's Blonde Redhead concert at Celebrate Brooklyn!, it stopped raining before the show began and it ended up being a really nice night listening to the dreamlike sounds of the band.More pictures from Friday's show, below...The highlight [Olof Arnald's] opening act - she seemed aware of the absurdity of trying to win over fans anxiously waiting for Blonde Redhead - was a quirky, oddly affecting Michael Jackson tribute when she sang "Billie Jean" with that little guitar or whatever it is. It started raining again." [Dumbo Books of Brooklyn]

Fucking stellar review. Whoo! Now that's some top notch reporting there. "when she sang "Billie Jean" with that little guitar or whatever it is."
How this stuff gets printed on a respectable music blog is beyond me. Come on, I'm sure you can do better than that.

in defense of the blogger. He did also write this:
We like Blonde Redhead a lot, but in addition to taking lousy pics with our Alltel cell phone, we don't know enough about music criticism to say anything intelligent, so we'll just wait until other, younger, brighter people get up today and decide to post something about Blonde Redhead or non-blurry pics and we'll link to them.

Love the first few pics . . . ."this is a bridge going into Brooklyn"; "this is what it looks like to pull into a subway station"; "this is the park," etc.

2:19 - not everyone treats going to concerts or music as the most important thing in their life. for some people its just another day out. You shouldnt take a crap on their fun day out just because they decided to write about it from their non-expert point of view.

They were better when they opened for the Black Crows.

The blog is what it is, but the fact that Brooklyn Vegan reprints it here is ridiculous. It's an insult to professional journalists, but then again much of Brooklyn Vegan is. Kids writing articles for a couple cans of PBR and a back stage pass.
Indeed I am older than you, etc and so on. I've heard it all on BV. Thanks, but I'll take my comments off air.

The drummer is the only good part of Blonde Redhead. Kazu sucks, she sings like a dickhead.
Posted by Zack | June 29, 2009 10:51 AM
I wouldn't call her a dickhead, but she is the worst part of the band. She makes them unlistenable.

BH peaked in 1998. They've been moribund for years.
They're stale live and too reliant on canned music to fill out their sound.
To think this was the band that toured with Fugazi and Shellac in 1998. Wow.
Nice people, but their music doesn't move me.
