Citysol

On July 10-12, 2009, Solar One, NYC's first green energy, arts and education center, will present Citysol, a celebration of urban sustainability and creativity in a mini music and arts festival.
The intial lineup for Citysol's free Saturday, July 11th concert has been updated. Full schedule of bands, with more info about the three-day NYC event, below...

Citysol 2009 @ Solar One @ Stuyvesant Cove Park

At Citysol 2009, acts will perform under a solar tent by Eco-Pioneer, who will also be providing site design with solar tents, a tiki lounge and bar and bike area. Installation art and exhibits will be created in a Habitat for Artists, a temporary, recycled-and-recyclable shed as art studio where Habitat creator Simon Draper (and other artists of his choosing) will create pieces to display during the festival. The Habitats are personal/public spaces that can make art more approachable and at the same time encourage more community awareness of and involvement in the creative process. Watching old artworks and other discarded scraps transformed into a free space for ideas to manifest in a city where space is so controlled is exactly the kind of experience Citysol seeks to offer its audience.

Solar 1Directions to Solar One:
Solar One is about a 10 minute walk from the closest subway stations, but the area is also serviced by several bus lines.

By Subway & Bus: take the (6) to 23rd St. and the M23 east to Avenue C *or* take the (L) to 1st Ave and walk about 10 minutes to the site or take the M15 north to 23rd St. and walk along East 23rd St. The M16 and M21 buses also stops near E. 23rd St. and Avenue C.

By Car: Get to East 23rd St, driving east. Pass under the FDR, as if you are going to the Gulf gas station. Solar One is just south of the Gulf station, along the same access road. From the North via FDR Drive, exit at 23rd St. and make a left at the traffic light as if you are heading to the gas station. From the South via FDR Drive, exit at 20th-23rd Sts., follow Avenue C to the light at 23rd. St and turn right as if you are going into the gas station.

Parking: Solar One is not able to offer parking to visitors. There is a paid lot under the FDR Drive and street parking available in the surrounding neighborhoods, though the search for spaces can be competitive. We recommend taking mass transit whenever possible.

i wonder which band i really want to see will somehow be canceled this year?

Posted by Anonymous | June 29, 2009 7:42 AM

I predict Rachel Trachtenburg will cancel because her parents will ground her after catching her with a joint.

Man, when will Fiasco just realize that despite the massive PR apparatus behind them, no one gives a shit except their circle of yuppie children private school friends, and just go away?

Posted by Anonymous | June 29, 2009 10:56 AM

will they post set times closer to the show? i just want to see dpz

are you fucking kidding me?!?
Nobody cares about this bullshit, and it's the worst fucking logo ever.
MICHAEL JACKSON IS DEAD.

the logo is pretty bad. i think fiasco has a right to keep doing what they're doing. if you don't like them so much just show up late to whatever show they are opening. that's what i do. i appreciate them even if the music itself doesn't move me.

Fiasco has a massive PR apparatus???? Really, dont you think that is a stretch? They are on a tiny indie label. Why all the hate?

I dont think a lot of the favorite "indie" bands could weather the rich kid/ poor kid test that so many people want to apply. It is a really uninteresting argument. RIch parents might help with making rent but market forces will ultimately determine a bands worth. Paris Hilton's record didnt sell that many copies, did it?

Yeah! Schwervon!

I would love to hear more about this "massive PR apparatus" that Impose Records has set up for Fiasco.

there is none. haters be mad jealous is all.
