Jane's Addiction @ Sasquatch 2009 (more by Chris Graham)

A Letter from Trent Reznor:Spots are left for the shows coming up at Jones Beach, PNC Bank Arts Center, and Camden.I am very happy to announce the inclusion of a really cool VIP package for Jane's Addiction fans that is strictly limited - so if this unique offer sounds cool to you, act quickly.
Since this fundraiser began, the Jane's guys have been wanting to contribute somehow and they've come up with something really cool. These guys actually set up and play for a good chunk of time in a room backstage to warm up and jam together BEFORE they hit the stage. Jane's stuff, covers, who knows. What they've come up with is this:
For $1,000. PER PERSON, they'll allow 10 guests per show (strictly limited) to come backstage and hang out with them while they play in their practice room (literally standing right next to them in a small, intimate living-room type environment), grab autographs and then watch Jane's Addiction from the side of the stage if you'd like.
Please note: some of this takes place the same time NIN is onstage, so realize you will be missing a PORTION of NIN's show if you participate in this.
If you're a Jane's fan, this is an incredibly rare opportunity to see and meet these guys in action close up like you've never seen before.
All proceeds from this will go to help Eric De LA Cruz get a new heart and a new chance at life. Eric is of the many left behind by a broken, uncaring health-care system.

I love Janes...but that was hilarious

Worst. Band. Ever.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 11:00 AM
Yeah, they got blown away by NIN and I was a bit upset that they got closing honors over NIN, but really, worst band ever?
They seriously have to be a bit better than waaves or dan deacon.

worst most ignorant poser post ever
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 11:06 AM
A bit of hyperbole, but yeah, I cannot stand Jane's Addiction (or Perry Farrell). Your point on Dan Deacon is well taken though...
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 11:08 AM
Perry? That's Henry Winkler.
Posted by Eggs1234 | June 4, 2009 11:09 AM
Hahaha...whomever threw that bottlecap couldn't have done it any better.

typical fucking Masshole.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 11:15 AM
Well, I would never see Jane's now, but I saw them in 1991 before they broke up the first time and it was an amazing show. And I can guarantee 20 years from now people will still remember this band as opposed to all of the hipster bands people listen to for one or two years and then go to the next hipster band. Give me Janes over White Stripes any day.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 11:22 AM
11:22 you're showing your age
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 11:29 AM
as are you, 11:29
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 11:30 AM
Old people are so lame. Why can't they just choose to be young, like the rest of us? Gosh, I hope I never gain experience & perspective...I hope I can just remain an ignorant fool forever...wouldn't that be deck, bro.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 11:32 AM
Typical fucking MEHsshole.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 11:34 AM
Yep, I'm 38. And I have seen thousands and thousands of concerts from punk to hardcore to alternative to rap to metal to pop to classic rock since I was about 13 years old. And I had a radio show and I wrote about music professionaly. And I can tell you to say "Worst. Band. Ever." in regards to Jane's Addiction is pretty ignorant. Especially considering all of the fly-by-night bands out there now that passes off as indie rock.
But like I said, I would NEVER go to see them now and haven't listened to them in years. Just saying they aren't that bad in the bigger scope of things.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 11:41 AM
kids are fucking stupid, when you're my age you will think the EXACT same thing.
morans.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 11:41 AM
So freakin' stupid. Why do I care if I can stand next to those old, has been rockstars. I pay money to actually see the show. I'm sure their inflated ego's would LOVE to have over zealous fans asking them questions right before they go on. Why don't they just give $ to charity? One more reason certain bands just don't get it and never will.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 11:49 AM
38 year old guy...not sure why you're being so emphatic about NEVER going to see Jane's again, but that's your prerogative. I am happy as shit that they've reunited completely, and am very much looking forward to seeing them this weekend. I am also old enough to be able to vouch for how ground-breaking, significant and fucking raw they were in the late 80s/early 90s. Is it going to be like that now? Hell no. Will it be fun and great to hear them kick out the jams again, though? I'm betting yes.
The majority of young twats around here whose lives are dictated by music blog sites, american apparel, urban outfitters or whatever is happening in Williamsburg aren't worth the convincing, trust me. Let them be "young" and figure it out for themselves. We did.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 11:54 AM
"So freakin' stupid. Why do I care if I can stand next to those old, has been rockstars. I pay money to actually see the show. "
if you read it:
"These guys actually set up and play for a good chunk of time in a room backstage to warm up and jam together BEFORE they hit the stage. Jane's stuff, covers, who knows."
And you are obviously not the person they are going after.

I am going to the Camden show tmrw and Holmdel show on saturday, can't fuckin wait
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 12:06 PM
Oh shit, i think my watch broke, what year is it?
People actually give a wet fart about Jane's Addicition? So much so they are willing to shell out a thousand dollars to "chill" with these giant ego douch bags as they "jam" back stage? Wow, I guess the economy isn't as bad as people are saying.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 12:12 PM
I LIKE MUSIC!
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 12:16 PM
yeah, fuck these guys for trying to raise some money to help their buddy's medical expenses.
also what fucking nerve of some people to be such big fans of a certain band's music that they would want to hang out with the band before a show.
people should just stop being so affected by music, being moved by art is so 20th century.
Posted by yoga | June 4, 2009 12:17 PM
Why is there always a cowardly MEHron posting, and why do people waste their time to bicker about how UNinterested they are in a blog post? Seriously, some of you anon cowardly pussies are really lame. Why only comment when you're bent about a blog entry? Do you ever bother to post a comment when you like something? Do you like anything at all? I doubt it. Poor, bitter and cranky kiddies.
AnonMEHmous tops the heap, and the others, the ignorant ones who think age matters, or who think they're cool and everyone else isn't — get a fucking grip on yourselves. You're not so special and you're comments prove you're just fuckstick brats with too much time on your hands.
When one of you trollish schmucks actually does something to help another human being, post about it. I bet you all do nothing for anyone else but yourselves. Go jerk off to that, kiddies.
The ignorance of the younger gen. makes me sick. I'm 10 times cooler than you idiot "kids."
I wish I could get to go to the Jones Beach show. I've followed both bands since they were playing small venues and people would shrug "huh? when I said their names. Talented, amazing musicians who changed music and inspired others. Saying they did squat and are shit is just so ludicrous and ignorant.
Posted by Better than YOUR MOM | June 4, 2009 12:18 PM
all you angry's need to rewatch the bottlecap lob perfectly onto Perry's forehead and chill the fuck out.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 12:29 PM
"also what fucking nerve of some people to be such big fans of a certain band's music that they would want to hang out with the band before a show"
In that case have a raffle. Why should their "Biggest" fans have to pay 1 thousand dollars to do this?? Habeens and washups who don't give two shits about the music...and, in this case their fans. There albums were good ... what, two decades ago?! Give me Obits, Yo La or any other band that understands how it is to be relevant now a days. Henry Winkler and his crew have no idea.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 12:35 PM
"Give me Obits, Yo La or any other band that understands how it is to be relevant now a days."
You've just divulged your youthful ignorance. "Understands how it is to be relevant?" What the fuck does that even mean...like, being at an early stage in your career? Ha haa. Let's see how relevant either of them are in 20+ years.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 12:54 PM
PS...I'll concede that Yo La Tengo has been around for years, but with what kind of following, significance or relevance?
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 12:57 PM
Unless they're just outright lying, they're not doing this to stroke their own egos.
they're in a huge band and they have the opportunity to quickly raise 100K (ten people per show in ten days) for their friend who needs a new heart.
they're in a position where they CAN do this so they're taking advantage of it.
if they're such assholes, don't you think they would want to keep fans AWAY from them before they go onstage?
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 1:11 PM
I think they are doing a nice thing for their friend. I applaud them. Hope they reach their goal!
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 1:17 PM
"Give me Obits, Yo La or any other band that understands how it is to be relevant now a days..."
As in relevant in 2009! Making music that is in check with people that are into music in 2009, not rehashing your glory days of 1988. Yo La, Obits even Grizzly Bear are relevant in 2009. Janes Addiction, even though they're helping out someone...is not.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 1:17 PM
It'll be funny to see how "relevant" bands like WAVVES and the Crystal Stilts will be 20 year from now.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 1:18 PM
...or 20 days from now, even.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 1:27 PM
1:17,Seriously, honestly and truly YOU ARE ONE OF THE BIGGEST IDIOTS I HAVE EVER SEEN MAKING A COMMENT ON HERE. And yes that needed to be said in caps. You are truly a clueless jackass and probably around 18 years old with the eduacation of a 12 year old.
Are you kidding? Relevance? To whom are they in step with listening to music these days. Because while I love Obits and Yo La, they do not register much of a blip on the music industry map as a whole. Now if you said something like Miley Cyrus or Daughtry who sell millions of records ie millions of people listening to them right now then you might have a point. Maybe.
You know i was going to listen to a 13 Floor Elevator album today but i decided after reading your comment that it is too old and out of step and i should not bother.
Furthermore, what kind of world are we living in when an attempt to do something for charity is slagged. Who the fuck are some of you people? Where do you get your nerve? Oh that's right, you are tough guys behind the wall of a computer. You would be sniveling cowardly pussies and never have the guts to say something like this in person.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 1:33 PM
*education, whoops
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 1:34 PM
Jane's addiction is a really good band.
why the hell people want to pay money for any show just to throw shit at the band, hold their fucking camera [phone] above their head the whole time, or incessantly yell to their friends over the music is beyond me. they're probably friends with that guy who still thinks yelling "more cowbell" is funny out of any context related to blue oyster cult.
i'd probably get a little pissed if i'm trying to focus enough to play a decent show in front of 10,000 people and almost got my eye put out...granted he definitely overreacted. but i'd imagine images of dimebag popping into one's head at a moment like that and getting a little freaked out.
the relevant discussion is stupid. music is always relevant if someone enjoys it. not just if pitchfork says it is.
Posted by :: smo :: | June 4, 2009 1:48 PM
1:48 they probably threw the cap because they were fans of NIN and couldn't care less about Jane's...I hear what you are saying though. Some concerts the crowd is way louder than the band!
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 1:52 PM
If the person who threw the cap was a NIN fan who "couldn't care less about Jane's" and had nothing better to do, then they should have fucking left.
Imo, there is no relevant excuse to ever fucking disrespect and/or potentially compromise (physically or otherwise) someone during their performance. That is just straight-up base, mouth-breather bullshit behavior right there.
Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 2:05 PM
A younger Perry would've found out how threw it and whipped a wine bottle at their head.
The crowds at shows in MA are dicks.

Eric is just one of many cases. Unfortunately it takes a case like Eric's to get the attention of people. There's a problem with the health care system and thanks to bands like Janes Addiction and Trent Reznor bringing more light to the situation we can address it. Find out more at: http://www.tweet4eric.com/ and sign the petition.

they were amazing on tuesday nigth in toronto. nice to see the original line up together again.
to be honest, i enjoyed them more now, than i did in 1991.
nine inch nails should have headlined though as their set was stellar.

Actually, we've gotten tired of it ourselves, and 'more cowbell' isn't funny in any context.

That over reaction to a bottle cap thrown would have been a fun ribbing when they first played together. This is the same guy who use to jump on peoples backs, cook barb b Q on stage, knit, and do what he wanted like there was no tomorrow? People change I guess.
Posted by Anonymous | June 5, 2009 3:45 AM
People take all this shit too seriously - it's rock and roll, Jane's plays it well, and that's that. They've done the break up and reform bit a few times, and not always with good results. They're not young anymore, but they still have plenty of energy, and now experience as well. They bottom line is that they are four creative people who make music that many other people enjoy.
Posted by Anonymous | June 5, 2009 10:57 PM
June 4, 2009 12:35 PM: You are a fucking ignorant, apparently illiterate, poseur. What part of the story about how they are raising money for a friend with need for a new heart didn't you understand? Kill yourself. Seriously.
Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2009 4:53 PM
good, the fag, the retarded : For a person obsessed with a band, you would think you would know that it is spelled "Crowes".
Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2009 4:56 PM
^^^ it's not one person obsessed with the Black Crowes. Apparently, there are several people writing in black crowes jokes.
Posted by british vegan | June 7, 2009 7:57 PM
When I saw Janes open for the Black Crows in 1990, I totally shit myself. Now they're slacking and can work on their live act. It's obvious they are in it for the money now.
