Girl Talk

"Now this was THE dance party of the weekend. The set started with dozens of fans on the stage dancing, and about an hour of almost non-stop music followed. For those not familiar, Girl Talk is Gregg Gillis, a DJ who just does crazy mashups -- and people love it. The set at the Wookie Stage was way crowded, and not a soul was still.

It was just great to hear how Gillis could somehow fit in classic riffs like Weezer's "Say It Ain't So" or GNR's "Sweet Child of Mine" with all kinds of rap beats or hooks. It was great to hear the crowd scream and holler whenever a sample of something they recognized came on, then sing along at the top of their lungs (who knew "Jessie's Girl" worked well with dance beats?)." [Ear Candy]

Girl Talk played the Sasquatch Festival in Washington on Memorial Day. A few days later he played a more intimate, indoor gig at Hiro Ballroom in NYC.

This summer he'll be back for something much larger, much more public, outdoors, and totally free (I think). Girl Talk will be playing the "Pool Party" at Williamsburg Waterfront on Sunday, August 23rd. And (I think) the openers are Max Tundra and Wiz Khalifa.

After this post, I'll be updating the master list of shows taking place at the same venue this summer. More GT tour dates and pictures from Sasquatch below...

@424 will be a brofest...

when he toured this fall all the bros/frat kids from my school went to see him. the point of girl talk before was to dance to pop music and have fun without dealing with dumb sorority girls and guys who are going to get into fights (like you would in a normal pop music club)....those days are over.

maybe just don't go, then? he is easily the weakest part of what is so far shaping up to be an awesome summer lineup.

what is the capacity of W.waterfront?
i mean it doesnt even make sense for him to play a free show at a place that holds 5,000 people if he can sell out like 3 nights at term5 without even trying

Terminal 5 sucks, Waterfront is supposed to hold more than the pool...

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2009 6:38 PM

was this actually confirmed?

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2009 6:56 PM

"was this actually confirmed?"

as confirmed as you're going to get until the official announcement is made

where are the pics of the topless tiny boppers crowd surfing?

Posted by perv | June 3, 2009 9:14 PM

I know it's been said a zillion times, but why complain? It's a free show! Don't like it? Go see a movie!

@4:24 and 5:44

i thought the point of a girl talk show was to enjoy good music and dance? i didn't know it was a safe haven for hipsters. at least frat guys and sorority girls don't hide behind the "veil of girl talk" to enjoy most of the music he samples.

Really BV... do we need a Girl Talk update like twice a week? All the photos are the same. Girl Talk pushes play on a laptop, dances around, crazy hipsters loose their shit to an sweaty, smelly, iPod. Since I am ending this comment, cue the up-close pic of Girl Talk doing something like hugging friends, taking his shirt off, or making a "We'll all be one, someday" gesture.

ha - lets face it people - time to put this crap to bed already - girl talk is shit amongst shit

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 11:08 AM

I think Girl Talk is overrated but his act has definitely gotten better since his terminal 5 shows. Look he's using two laptops now!

Girl Talk is always a really fun concert. Much more fun live than many other musicians. I don't understand why you people are dissing a man who brings music from most genre's together and creates really hot dance beats

wowwwww I had no idea that girl talk would put on such a big show. the beats he picks out are crazy.. I always wondered how he made money. I wonder no more.

girl talk is such an innovator.. I love how he has done a great job of creating a unique music niche for himself and others to follow.. who needs to make money on your albums when you have 100,000 people showing up for your concerts.
