Morrison Hotel

"Morrison Hotel, the legitimately rock-historical art gallery that shares the former home of CBGBs with John Varvatos, is moving out. The gallery has several other locations, but the Bowery one is their largest. When it moved in over a year ago, we rejoiced that it wasn't "something completely soul-crushing," but will the space get another chance? The broker for the site tells us he's talked to "a lot of retailers, restaurateurs and bar operators," but nothing's been concluded yet." [Racked]

I hope it will become a bar, and then at some point when Varvatos will move out , hopefully in the main space it will become a bank, because what the area really really needs is a bank and a bar.

I don't know why someone isn't jumping at the chance to open a rock club or live music venue at this address. Iy's perfect and has built in tourist interest.

The building would never approve another bar

your stupid meh comments aren't funny and prove to everyone reading that you're just another stupid, arrogant, obnoxious out of place hipster. Go back to Ohio or Wisconsin or wherever the fuck you came from

People still give a shit about what used to be in a building?

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 8:45 AM

8:45...did you ever hear of Museums, Castles, Forts, etc. Those all mark significance at sites. People care what used to be places all the time.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 9:01 AM

just burn down that whole block already

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 9:03 AM

please don't compare CBGB to a museum, castle or fort. it was a piece of shit club and those things come and go. nobody gives a shit about a supercuts, chipotle, or CBGB store going into the old Dom space or how Coney Island High is now a noodle shop/condos or how the old Fillmore is a Met Food. It was the bands that made CBGB special, not the space, and they all left 30 years ago.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 9:24 AM

If it wasn't for that special shitty space then those bands wouldn't have had a home.

I vote for David Byrne to open a bike store.

I've had the pleasure of seeing some great rock photographs in this gallery over the last year. Pay a visit while you can, even some of the meh-rons posting here will recognize many classic images.

the space in question has NOTHING to do with the original CBGB's, it opened years after the glory had long faded from the site that hosted bands like the Ramones,T Heads, & Suicide. it was a failed commercial attempt to expand on a long dead scene.

the Varvatos store is the only site that matters. as far as historical importance rock clubs come and go. it the nature of the beast. maybe it would be cool to make a museum out of it, but c'mon who is going to put up the $$$$ for something like that. whoever owns that space wants to make a profit. it's called capitalism. just sayin.

the music never stops.........
