DOWNLOAD: WAVVES - So Bored (MP3)

WAVVES is playing playing BooYa! (thumbs down) (pmceldow)
WAVVES

Pitchfork: Do you feel like you've been depicted unfairly?

Nathan Williams (WAVVES): I watched the video, and all I can talk about is what I've watched from the video because I don't really remember playing. So I can't really defend myself. I'm sure it was a disaster show, but I don't know. I don't really care. In the end, that sort of stuff is out of control. I did what I did, and people kind of love to watch you fall. I feel like that is part of it as well. But in the end, it's not so upsetting as it is crazy to me that it turned into such a huge deal. [In] this day and age where information and video can be transferred so quickly on the internet, people can write about it right away, and it all just happens so fast. People have instant access to it, so there's not escaping it.

Pitchfork: Did you ever consider doing Wavves as something where you just recorded and didn't play live?

NW: In the beginning, that's all it was. And everything happened so fast. Ryan came out to play drums a month before I started touring, or a month before we started touring. And then until the day of Barcelona, we were just touring nonstop. So we practiced for three weeks, me and Ryan, and then we went on tour nonstop, so there was never really any time for me to like transfer the songs from recordings to how they would pan out live. And I still haven't had the chance to do that. It was just kind of: "OK, this is how the songs go. Let's just go play them and have fun." And that's when it was the most fun. It just got kind of... I don't know what it got.

Tickets are still on sale for the show WAVVES has coming up at Bowery Ballroom. A new official video, along with some meltdown videos, below...

"Did you ever consider that Anonymous 10:40 doesn't give a shit about Waaves?"

Legitimate question.

uhm i love this medicore shit

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 10:55 AM

if you can't see this band as worthless than i feel sorry for you. it's not that they're overrated...they are totally mediocre.

they are Medio-Core.

IF you can't think of 200 bands IN BROOKLYN that are MUCH better than this band that doesn't deserve it's name mentioned...then you my friend...ARE FUCKING CLUELESS.

Yours,

jealous of a shitty band's attention

Posted by Return of the Slut | June 30, 2009 10:57 AM

he blew up fast because the songs are infectious.

Nathan Williams has some kind of intangible talent. Accept it, I know it's unfair that all the work you put into your band doesn't make your band as immediately popular, but "fair" doesn't count for shit.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 11:03 AM

ok...help me like them...what's their best song?

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 11:10 AM

looks to me like he finally realized he sucked and didnt belong up there on the stage

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 11:23 AM

If you've ever seen them you know the drummer holds his set of Blink 182 demos together.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 11:29 AM

TMZ and BrooklynVeganfork are cut from the same clothe . . . finally this guy is making sense.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 11:32 AM

If that tune "no hope kids" is indicative of the music, it's not good. At all.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 11:34 AM

You hipster losers are so lame. A few months ago you were all talking about how great Waaves is, now they suck. Typical.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 11:34 AM

Japandroids are about 6000000x better than this garbage.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 11:41 AM

No Hope Kids is the hit.

So Bored is pretty hot too.

My favorite is Side Yr On

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 11:45 AM

this is a completely true story:

i was really hungover one day, couldn't leave the house, was completely braindead and decided to fuck around on garageband (sidenote: I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT GARAGEBAND AT ALL. ZILCH.) so i started singing gg allin "fuck the dead", distorted it, flanged it, made it a bit warbly. 15 minutes later, i have a song that sounds like something this guy would shit out. better, even. lyrics written by a shit-eating junkie rapist & the fumbling-about of a bored-as-shit girl who was tired of watching law & order: svu & whose guitar playing level never made it past "blister in the sun", how ya like that?

what's my point? please do not ever mention the word "talent" when describing this guy. it's not talent. it's boredom. and if jerks buy into it, hey, that guy wins. i'm just speaking my piece.

and spare me the "if you can do it better, why don't you" replies. i'm not a musician, and even if i was, i'd have more dignity than to release something like this shit.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 12:03 PM

I guarantee you that Bowery show will be packed

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 12:15 PM

japandroids are awful. people need to stop saying they are "sooo much better" because their LP was trash.

he looks 15 years old in the music video.and in person but definitely in the music video. he should consider joining Tiny Masters of Today to take some of the solo act pressure off.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 12:30 PM

You're out of your fucking mind, 12:30pm.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 12:36 PM

And arguably illiterate.

Posted by dave | June 30, 2009 12:55 PM

man, what a cock. how can he not realize that he disappointed a ton of people at primavera by having that meltdown? and then to just be all "oh the internet is making a big deal about this for no reason, they just want to see me fail..." I think that the dude from the black lips was right about wavves.

so bored is still pretty fun though

also japandroids had a great LP, anon.

there was no moderation of anything in this post, though there have been issues with commenting in general today due to a site software upgrade. What's missing?

Posted by brooklynvegan | June 30, 2009 2:44 PM

Yeah, I was around when the Anon 10:41 posted about 10:40 and there was no 10:40 post. Perhaps it was a reference to the last 10,000 comment WAVVES thread.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 3:20 PM

Between The BEETS and this shit . . . I think I'm through with modern music.

I'm done. Done.

. . . and I had low standards.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 3:31 PM

wavves makes 3:31 sad. boo fucking hoo.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 3:34 PM

3:34 makes me sad. boo fucking hoo.

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 4:22 PM

man 3:31 if wavves and some other band that doesn't really matter makes you want to give up on music, you should check out some more music

LOUD NOISES

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2009 6:18 PM

I guess 10:41 AM meant to refer to his or her very own comment but wasn't perfectly in synch with official Brooklyn Vegan time.

Posted by Chronos | July 1, 2009 12:31 AM

i like 'so bored' and 'no hope kids.'those are pretty awesome songs, and i don't see why people are so hateful on this guy. so i played one shitty show on drugs-- there is tons of footage of nirvana sucking live (and likely, on drugs). whatever, im not saying wavves is nirvana-- just saying they made some songs that rule and should be appreciated.

Posted by Anonymous | July 1, 2009 12:42 PM

people at malls love this kind of shit.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 7:12 PM

I'm at the mall (where they have it all) and they're playing this in Urban Outfitters right now! 7:12PM is right!
