Todd P needs a job

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 3:36 PM

Thanks Todd for introducing a bunch of people to NYC's best and lesser known beaches. This shit is gonna get shut down. There are park patrol officers who police the beach regularly. I doubt hundreds of kids are gonna be able to successfully conceal their drinking. I appreciate what Todd does, I just wish he would take this shitshow elsewhere.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 3:47 PM

i hope someone brings a voley ball net!

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 3:49 PM

@3:33 best comment ever. /end thread

Dear Brooklynvegan and Todd,

Why do you have to BLOW UP everything? Why can't anything still fly under the radar? It's great to use your platform to support new or struggling artists, great to get info to fans. No argument there. But, at some point, do you ever think to balance those concerns against keeping certain things on the DL? It's nice to be able to hang out somewhere quiet sometimes. It's nice that quiet places still exist. So maybe consider keeping, um, quiet?

Posted by shutup | June 1, 2009 3:57 PM

i mean rachel coleman's bbq yesterday was even listed!

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 4:00 PM

Rock-, Rock-, Rockaway Beach!

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 4:00 PM

agree with 3:47, this is stupid. Well don't crash your bikes going over the bridge, thats narrow "bike path" heading out there.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 4:00 PM

Finally something good is coming to Rockaway!

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 4:04 PM

It's quiet out there for a reason, and that's b/c it's at the end of the earth. Don't get your panties in a bunch expecting droves for this, it's not gonna be that big of a deal. Once this show is over with, people will go back to not caring or bothering with heading out there.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 4:04 PM

damn people really love to hate. i bet 3:57 isn't even really from nyc. if you don't like it, then simply don't go

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 4:07 PM

tba has two sets. I'm stoked.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 4:16 PM

strange boys!

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 4:45 PM

I'm going to need to rent a bike.

Posted by baby genius | June 1, 2009 5:30 PM

you guys are fucking assholes. 4:04 is right and it's one day in the middle of the summer, save your 'get off my lawn!' bullshit for when it's actually needed. this looks incredible. kind of sad every band only gets three songs but it's still crazy that the planning crew were able to pull all of these bands together for one day AND have it be free and all ages. i'm excited.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 5:32 PM

I'm very curious what an acoustic Teengirl Fantasy set would be like

Posted by Eric P | June 1, 2009 5:39 PM

TBA rents the practice space right across the hall from my band's space. Lately I've been hearing them playing tuba and banjo. So I'd expect something pretty off the wall from these lads for this show. Then again, they're usually hard to pin down anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 5:57 PM

I suspect it just means they're playing without amplifying their keyboards.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 6:09 PM

gotcha. the Acoustic portion was throwing me.

Posted by Eric P | June 1, 2009 6:44 PM

:( There goes one of the best spots in NYC. I hope the parks police breaks this shit up right fast. 16 year olds please bring plenty of booze!

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 6:54 PM

Why must you destroy rockaway!?! I hate you Todd P! Also way way to many bands....

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 6:58 PM

God, this beach doesn't even have fire exits. Another Todd P deathtrap "show"...have fun burning to death, hipsters. No one's gonna get in, anyway - the capacity of this beach is 300 tops and I've heard there's a line running up Broad Channel already.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 7:06 PM

Javelin!

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 7:10 PM

Yeah BV and Todd P, you guys are ruining all the amazing underground indie rock that goes on in Rockaway that no one knows about. There goes the scene. Thanks, jerks.

Posted by queens native | June 1, 2009 7:31 PM

Techincally, this isn't Rockaway, it's Breezy Point.

Posted by Rockaway Native | June 1, 2009 8:14 PM

*technically

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 8:15 PM

Let it be known how angry I am at Todd P. for booking bands to play a concert.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 9:41 PM

I concur 9:41 bands playing for an audience they should be in a toilete in East N.Y, I mean Bushwick is done thanks Todd P!

Posted by mike flood | June 1, 2009 10:25 PM

haha seriously what is all the hate about? Yous peoples must be spoiled to complain about a free concert on a beach- not to mention more than half of the bands playing are definitely worth the trip

i spent my past four years of schooling in philly...these kind of shows don't often( if ever-more ever than often) exist there(don't get my wrong philly is amazing and has great shows and a great art scene)...and i'm not too sure whether they do in other cities.

You should all really appreciate what ToddP/and the pool parties offer(i've read too many complaints about the FREE mccarren park pool parties---i can't wait to see what you babies have to say about this years FREE parties) i've wasted too much time reading negative comments.

GET OVER YOURSELF.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 11:26 PM

all the commenters that are toting this as one of the coolest and quietest places are blowin this up as much as bv- but i think we all agree the bottom line is- eff Todd P...

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 11:36 PM

THE STRANGE BOYS!

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 1:10 AM

GOD I HATE LIVE MUSIC AND ESPECIALLY HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE GET TOGETHER AND LISTEN TO LIVE MUSIC AND MAN I REALLY HATE IT WHEN ITS FREE!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 1:18 AM

Speaking of Philly, why was Tariq wearing a Yankee cap on tonight's episode of 7th Floor West? Especially since the Phillies won the World Series last year.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 1:57 AM

speaking of Philly...

...I forgot what I was saying.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 2:31 AM

Im gonna go and wear plaid and my neat frames.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 4:23 AM

i think it's just ppl who were ranting and raving about Wavves now they're tired of wavves since they tore him apart and now bv posted two things on the next best thing ToddP

oh man and then dan deacon! kind of feel like bv knows what he's doing

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 8:20 AM

Does the L train go there? what time does Dan Deacon go on!!!
Unnecessary vests and scarves a must!!

Posted by SAM C | June 2, 2009 9:54 AM

Its a good thing Todd P was responsible enough to get a permit to have hundreds of people gather on the beach. Its also great that its totally legal to drink beer on this beach and not get a $150 ticket. cant wait to leave hundreds of empty cans of PBR to pollute the NYC waters. Its also great that there are no park rangers whatsoever to be found on this beach, so its totally ok to smoke weed out in the open. I cant wait to trash the place!

Posted by Courtney | June 2, 2009 10:07 AM

SHUT THE FUCK UP

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 10:14 AM

the lanacy of this thread is out of control!

this is a public beach that is filled with thousands of people every weekend summer day. Rockaway beach is not secret, at all.

what are you getting your panties in a bunch over? it's just a couple hundred people in bathing suits casually listening to people strum acoustic guitars. It's hardly different from what happens there, daily.

This is a beautiful little event that will harm nothing. The beach is no secret, and even if it was relatively unknown thing, it's a public place. You don't get to keep it all to yourself. We should all be able to appreciate our public beaches in whatever way we want.

Anyone naysaying this is an elitist and an alarmist. Calm down and appreciate a nice, informal, small, quiet event in a public place.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 11:11 AM

These acoustic bbqs never attracted a huge throng of people when they were in the middle of the East River, on Roosevelt Island, right off the F train.

Why would anybody intelligent predict mass destruction for this one, way the hell out past three train transfers and a bus?

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 11:14 AM

hey 10:07, could you tell me what permit is necessary for an "event" that features people sitting on rocks, strumming acoustic guitars quietly against the waves crashing, while other people frolic in the ocean?

It really sounds like a public safety hazard, what with those acoustic guitars in the open air and people in bikinis going in the water at a public beach.

Do call the fire department immediately!

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 11:23 AM

I heart the acoustic bbq. It's always of the most unique, happy events of the year.

Free, open to anyone, casual, intimate, beautiful music, public place.

What is there not to love exactly?

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 11:27 AM

Todd P Acoustic BBQ's are a beautiful happening and a wonderful free gift for the community.

This is an event anyone can appreciate. The Rockaways are lucky to have this so convenient to them.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 11:47 AM

my favorite show of the year!

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 11:52 AM

So excited! this is always such a nice thing!

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 12:09 PM

11:11 Fort Tilden and Rockaway are pretty different. This spot is not like the regular Rockaway public beaches. There are never more than a few people there. Although I agree with some of the above comments if kids bring open containers of alchohol especially the underagers this shit is getting shut down by the feds right fast.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 12:23 PM

what's there to "shut down"?

it's people playing acoustic guitars on a beach.

On Saturdays and Sundays in the Summer, Fort Tilden beach has lots and lots of people at it. It's not as crowded as Coney or the Beach at B 116th St, but it's sure as hell not abandoned. There are always lots of European ex pats and Park Slope style yuppies out there drinking champagne and grilling in bikinis.

Frankly, why should they get it all to themselves?

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 12:31 PM

This thing ends before 8. If people are planning on getting hardcore into booze at 2 PM, they have bigger problems than the feds.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 12:32 PM

Isn't this the same day as Punk Island?

ToddP is the man. His detractors are ultimate losers. what the fuck have they done?

Posted by nygerump | June 2, 2009 12:35 PM

from Todd P's write up of this thing:

"NOTE: ... While it is a National Park and not an NYC Parks Dept park, and things are considerably more lax than on city beaches, open container is still frowned upon. Bring cups."

seeing as how I've never gone to Fort Tilden in the summer and not seen yuppies openly drinking wine and microbrews, often topless, why exactly is this thing the end of the world to you?

Todd P is warning people that open container is illegal. What else would make you happy?

Maybe you'd prefer it if you had to swipe your gold card to get access to this PUBLIC PARK.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 12:41 PM

"What is there not to love exactly?"

Looking at people who look unattractive in swimwear

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 1:00 PM

so let me gwt this straight.... you're angry because someone is publicizing the existence of a public beach? in New York City?

I don't think you understand what the word "public" means.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 1:15 PM

TODD P.,
GO THE FUCK BACK TO WHEREVER YOU CAME FROM!!

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 1:33 PM

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 3:21 PM

Why does anybody actually read this far down in the comments? And even worse, why did I???

Posted by anonymous | June 2, 2009 5:31 PM

R5's beach parties are better anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2009 9:54 PM

"Isn't this the same day as Punk Island? "

Todd P has a knack for choosing bad days for the BBQ. Remember when last year he choose the BBQ to be the same day as the Euro Cup Final? Oops.

Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2009 11:09 PM

what the fuck's punk island and who cares

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2009 3:31 PM

It was freakin awesome. One of the best concerts I have ever seen...

Posted by Pete | June 15, 2009 1:20 PM

epically awesome. we should be praising todd p for planning such a successful event with all maaaa favorite bands. it was really cool how certain sounds translated to acoustic music. as someone else put it: GOD I HATE LIVE MUSIC AND ESPECIALLY HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE GET TOGETHER AND LISTEN TO LIVE MUSIC AND MAN I REALLY HATE IT WHEN ITS FREE!!!!

Posted by Ya Mom | June 15, 2009 1:21 PM

well the shitalking jerks high up on this thread were just epically wrong.

this day was one of the best concerts I've even gone to

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2009 1:29 PM

A very nice relaxing day on the beach. Some lovely music yes.
Best concert ever? Lol absolutely not
Amazing show? Not quite at that level.

1:29, it is over exaggerated comments like yours and the one above you that cause the shit talkers to come out in full effect in case you are wondering.

And seriously if this was one of the best shows you have ever seen, please do yourself a favor and go out to see more bands than you have. I understand that you and the 2 comments above you are probably very young people but go see more shows. You will be blown away at else is out there.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2009 1:51 PM

you're such a poor and arrogant asshole, "anonymous", why don"t you go and wank off, maybe that will make you feel better.

Posted by fuck off | June 15, 2009 5:31 PM

this show was really great, 1:51 is just a disasitisfied schmuck.

he's the kind of guy who critiques the first snowfall of the year, or flowers blooming in the spring.

take your head out of your ass and maybe you'll smell some roses once in a while
