« Celebrate Brooklyn kicks off tonight w/ David Byrne | Williamsburg trust-funders affected by recession! (NY Times) »

"watching TVOTR in the rain felt kinda special somehow. I pretty much forgot it was raining as soon as Tunde got his falsetto working in the first song. But I disagree about the encore. Young Liars is still one of their best songs, it never fails to give me goosebumps." [Anonymous]Despite the rain, the show went on (though maybe not as packed as it should have been for a sold out performance). TV on the Radio and Dirty Projectors are on a tour that brought them back home Friday night to play Central Park Summerstage (6/5).
For both bands, it was the first of two outdoor NYC shows they have scheduled this summer. Dirty Projectors will play at the Williamsburg Waterfront, and TV on the Radio will be returing to Celebrate Brooklyn's Prospect Park Bandshell. More pictures from Central Park, and attempts at both setlists, below...

setlist is very out of order. the one put in the other thread for this show is better, golden age--> wolf like me was the highlight of the show. halfway home wasn't in the middle.

Blues From Down Here was after Wrong Way

Seriously though, what garbage bin did Dave pick that Flannel shirt/Sweater combination out of ffs!

This show was simply awesome. Sound was excellent from where I was standing - a first for me after two shows where the vocals were drowned out. The rain was managable as long as people dressed appropriately. Tunde was on fire.
Anyone see the stubborn douche with the umbrella get it ripped out of his hands and destroyed? That was great.

angel deradoorian is gorgeous. really wish her band didn't suck, though.

Love the new Dirty Projectors disc. Wish they were opening for TVOTR at PP in August.

DP's bassist Nat Baldwin has some incredible solo albums, too. Very Arthur Russell-esque (though I'm sure he tires of that comparison). His solo shows on upright bass with no accompaniment are awesome.
Posted by Jessica Fletcher | June 8, 2009 12:46 PM
Baldwin SHREDS!
Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2009 12:50 PM
Angel > Nat. Who wants to be distracted by some bearded dude playing bass? And Angel was a good bass player too. Bad move I think. Its like adding second drummer to the beatles...
Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2009 12:53 PM
Angel should bust out that flute and they should play some crazy Getty Address shit.
Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2009 12:55 PM
by comparing the two you make one of them look bad. such a petty, pointless thing to do, especially if you're a "friend" of hers.
they are all very talented.
Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2009 12:58 PM
maybe. on the other hand you could say the additional musicians are redundant and DP were good as a 4 piece so why mess with a good thing. though i see your point.
Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2009 1:13 PM
Every time I see a picture of the singer from Dirty Projectors it ruins the bands music. That guy looks like an arrogant rhesus monkey.
Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2009 1:24 PM
they be black????????? i didnt know meh negroidal peoples be shredding
Posted by Anonymous | June 8, 2009 1:43 PM
missed DPs, but TVOTR was amazing. Me and my crew all swore we were hallucinating at certain points in the set, yet we weren't on anything (a little pot, but that's it...) Never gotten that without ingesting something before...awesome night.

I just shredded in my pants

Destruction of personal property IS awesome - in cases where that property is blocking everyone else's view because some selfish douche is being - well, a selfish douche.
Self righteousness is awesome!

TV on the Radio played 9 of the 11 songs on their new album. The two songs they didn't play are my two favorites. My life sucks.
Posted by Venkman | June 8, 2009 8:31 PM
Whoever posted the Dirty Projectors set list is pretty much right I think (I'm thinking from memory as well). I think if you switch Useful Chamber and No Intention then it's right... and for some reason I don't remember them playing Temecula Sunrise, but they probably did.
Posted by G | June 9, 2009 12:11 AM
Venkman, tickets are still available for the Prospect Park show in August.
Posted by Anonymous | June 9, 2009 10:37 AM
angel will you marry me?
Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2009 5:07 PM
Baldwin has been playing for DP longer than Angel actually. and Dave plays on his solo records. Nat took a break, and they added Angel to fill in. Now he's back. Get over it, they still sound awesome.

Dirty Projectors are a godawful live band. Their lead singer can't play his instrument, he tries to noodle around like a virtuoso but misses half of his notes.
Other than "Stillness is the Move", its one hell of an overrated album.
