NS=Northside Festival

If you missed John Vanderslice and Tallest Man on Earth last night, you have another chance tonight at Bowery Ballroom.

Lucero is also playing a private show with Hull at Pianos tonight.

If you're going to O'Death today, or Asobi Seksu at Music Hall of Williamsburg tonight, you'll notice pretty pictures.

Are The Mummies playing Bruar Falls??? UPDATE: No

It's Brooklyn Pride in Park Slope.

Williamsburg Walks closes a section of Bedford Avenue to traffic. That coincides with the Northside Festival's afternoon Williamsburg shows (see above).

Exit 44 Festival takes over Wonderland (3801 23rd Ave at 38th St) in Astoria, Queens. Tomorrow Todd P hosts an Unamplified Acoustic BBQ at the borough's other end.

Aaron Behrens of Ghostland Observatory plays a Northside show tonight. Tomorrow he opens for Ida Maria at the Bell House. She was scheduled to play the Hiro Ballroom last night. (How was it?)

Death Vessel's new video for "Circa" below...

What else?

All the L Magazine 8 NYC Bands You Need to Hear Right Now are playing at Spike Hill this afternoon -- well, all except the Beets. Walking by today it seemed free, no badges required. Wraps up at 6 with Savoir Adore.

yeah what's up with the Mummies thing? The website for the bar makes it seem that they are playing tonight, but when I called the club they just said "no bands are playing tonight, just DJ's"

Posted by Anonymous | June 13, 2009 6:18 PM

I emailed Le Poisson Rouge about set times for Callahan tonight. Their answer? "The artists' time here is their time; they decide what to do with it. Therefore, we can't give you precise set times."

Quelles Farts...

wow. ^^^HATE fuckers like those. it's like they get indignantly mad about you asking what time a band will play.

8:20 - arrived at Le Poisson Rouge in time for Bill Callahan's set. He played his wonderful show - his voice just keeps getting better, and better, and better.

10:15 - show ends. Just enough time to catch the F train and head over to the Bell House for tonight's REAL ATTRACTION -

Thomas Jefferson MUTHAFUCKIN Slave Apartments!!!

They played a sweet short set of about ten songs or so, with a one-song encore forced by the audience (they weren't supposed to do an encore originally). What can I say... Ron House is the master, all bow down. And Bob Petric is indie rock's Eddie VH.

Songs I remember they played:

Spasm of Morality
Rump Government
El Cajon
Cheater's Heaven
Fire in the Swimming Girl
Down on High Street
Bottle Island

But there were a bunch of others.

I still can't believe I just saw the Slave Apts.

I think they also did Whisper in Your Mouth, My Mysterious Death, and Is She Shy. And I think House slipped a little "Shattered" into High Street.

Windmills! Those guys are fucking rock stars.

Bill Callahan will never SHRED.

bill callahan set list?

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2009 10:46 AM

I went there last night to see Sir Richard Bishop. Meanwhile, upstairs at Webster Hall was "The Circus" a $30 dance party.

The "Studio" is located below this dance party (and yes, you could hear the thumping bass during Richard Bishop's set). The "Studio" is also located between the two sets of bathrooms utilized by the Circus patrons. While the first wave of tiara wearing cell phone photographers was kind of funny, once the Red Bull swilling crowd caught on that there was a less populated bar downstairs, they filled it up and talked loudly throughout the end of the set.

I don't mind some talking in the background. It's a bar/club, not a church. But..... if these people are going to sit and jabber all night over their overpriced cocktails (without putting a dime in Bishop's pocket!), I'd like them to at least subsidize my drinks so I don't have to pay $5 for a CUP OF FUCKING SELTZER WATER. I'm not even going to complain about the $7 beers.....

Never again!

did anyone go to the exit 44 festival? Action Painters and Tigercity both seriously DESTROYED. The lineup was kind of uneaven in the early part but the later bands were really realy good.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2009 1:41 PM

Callahan played (in no order): Jim Cain, All Thoughts are Prey to Some Beast, Our Anniversary, Bathysphere, The Wind and the Dove, Rococo Zephyr, Sycamore, Diamond Dancer, Say Valley Maker, Bowery, Rock Bottom Riser, encore: Let Me See The Colts, Eid Ma Clack Shaw, Cold Blooded Old Times. I think that's about it.

Did anyone with Northside badges get into the Asobi Seksu gig?

Posted by AKA47 | June 14, 2009 10:45 PM

Left after Cymbals Eat Guitars to catch War on Drugs. So yes, plenty of people got in with their Northside badges.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2009 10:51 PM

"Did anyone with Northside badges get into the Asobi Seksu gig?"

Yeah, I got in with my badge and so did the people I was with.

Posted by Anonymous | June 15, 2009 10:08 AM

People actually purchased Northside badges? Really?!?
