Brooklyn trio STATS has new EP out called Marooned -- it's online as a free/for-donation download. See them tonight at Death By Audio with Upsilon Acrux and Clan of the Cave Bear.

Thomas Bartlett takes a night off from supporting other acts to play as Doveman, his superb solo project, at LPR tonight. He'll be accompanied by Aaron and Bryce Dessner and Bryan Devendorf of The National, and Sam Amidon (who's also opening the show). Earlier this week, we posted the new track "Hurricane", a song off Doveman's forthcoming, still-unnamed record.

UK band Hatcham Social play a Twee as Fuck show at the Cake Shop with some NYC bands you probably heard of...those'd be Crystal Stilts, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, andnCause Co-Motion. Advance tickets sold out, but some should be available at the door if you show up early enough. Half of the bands will also be at the Woodsist/Captured Tracks Fest on July 3rd and 4th.

Andrew Bird makes the move from the Music Hall and Carnegie Hall to Radio City Music Hall.

Corn Mo brings his group .357 Lover to Europa. Dave Hill's band Valley Lodge is also on the bill. It's one big Bonnaroo reunion.

Kristin Hersh performs at the Bell House.

Hunx & His Punx play the first of three planned NYC shows tonight at SWAT bar (59 Canal St). See two previously-unposted videos by Hunx himself, below...

Did Bird play Devil Went Down to Georgia?

Phoenix was unreal! I always enjoyed their music, but since I last saw them at Bowery a few years ago, they became a completely different band live. They were insanely good. You have to see this band live now!

what made phoneix so killer?
i mean i like them a whole lot and all, but they seem like theyd be boring live.

Posted by Anonymous | June 19, 2009 12:12 PM

they were great at bonnaroo too - way dancier than i expected and just a really full and driving sound. tons of fun.

I don't think I've ever seen so many smiley faces at the MHOW. I don't see how anyone could leave that show feeling bad.
Even I felt good and I'm dead on the inside.
