APWAPW

Not many major conflicts. Some people will probably be upset with the overlap of MGMT and Coldplay. Not many people will probably be catching the Heartless Bastards. The full APW schedule below...

ALL POINTS MEHHH

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 3:01 AM

Day 1:
Comedy stage until the end of Eugene Mirman, then proceed over to the main stage for the duration of the day

Day 2:
Comedy until 4:30, then head over for Kool Keith-St. Vincent-Neko Case until 8:15, and proceed to My Bloody Valentine. Leave before Tool.

Day 3:
Comedy until 3:30, head over for Gaslight Anthem-Silversun Pickups-Elbow, proceed to Mogwai-Black Keys. Optional: MGMT or Coldplay, if you're into those types of things.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 3:08 AM

Coldplay/MGMT conflict is going to ruin a lot of 15 year old girls days.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 3:09 AM

Three full days of mediocrity! awesome! how do i get there?

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 6:39 AM

Mediocrity? You just didn't have any money to buy tickets.

Have fune at Siren? Fuckwit.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 6:59 AM

Jay Z YUCK so not on par with Beastie Boys! How horridly disappointing.

Posted by barb | July 25, 2009 7:28 AM

Last year, was there a problem with sound "leaking" from from one stage to another? I figure, MBV are L-O-U-D and Neko Case is often quiet, so that's a potentially ruinous overlap.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 8:21 AM

No, I didn't realize they were selling small boats of sushi at Siren! Next time, I'll be sure to get some fune.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 9:45 AM

Coldplay/MGMT conflict.....meh. I'm going to see Ghostland Observatory, thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 9:53 AM

WOOHOO

thanks for not posting about the arctic monkeys highline ballroom presale this time. just scored 2 tkts.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 10:06 AM

haha, i did the same and then posted on the last arctic monkeys article! =).

Posted by Steph | July 25, 2009 10:31 AM

Why the one hour delay between bands? That's my only annoyance.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 10:36 AM

what a pathetic lineup!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 11:12 AM

"Last year, was there a problem with sound "leaking" from from one stage to another? I figure, MBV are L-O-U-D and Neko Case is often quiet, so that's a potentially ruinous overlap"

For only about 5 minutes.

Why does Kool Keith get longer stage time than everyone else on the Bullet.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 11:14 AM

I'll take Jay Z over Beastie Boys any day

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 12:15 PM

Are you people impressed by anything? If everything sucks, why comment on it? Save yourself the effort.
Biggest conflict= Flying Lotus, Q-tip

Posted by evan | July 25, 2009 12:35 PM

Biggest conflicts: 5 to 1 that Kool Keith doesn't show, 10 to 1 that Tool were overrated 15 years ago, and now it's just lame.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 12:44 PM

outdoor festivals are hell on earth. never worth it, ever.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 12:47 PM

I don't think tool were overrated but they havent done anything good in 10 years. I will go see crystal castles and ting tings instead.

also choose Akron/family over silversun pickups.

overall i must say free shows next weekend give this festival a run for the money. I mean if you're coming to nyc next weekend would you rather see Vivian Girls at Whitney, Mike Watt in Central park and Deacon/No Age/Deerhunter pool party or this way out in NJ?

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 12:51 PM

can't wait to see elbow.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 1:22 PM

can i take a row boat over and sneak in?

Posted by i don't wanna pay | July 25, 2009 1:34 PM

I wouldn't want to see Vivian Girls if they were playing a block party in front of my house.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 1:35 PM

another free show. dean and brita in prospect park. m ward is playing the watt thing. nils cline is playing with watt.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 1:36 PM

yes, the idea that I have to miss Watt and Deacon on sunday for APW is kind of breaking me in half.

I saw the Dean and Britta play warhol at Lincoln Center earlier this year, but yeah thats another thing to consider next week.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 2:13 PM

m gira > APW

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 2:19 PM

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Snoozefest.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 2:53 PM

Jesus, this is pretty embarrassing when you break it down. At least coachella has 5 or 6 stages and a better mix...

I guess this festival is for all the meatheads in the NY suburbs who are too busy to make it to brooklyn for the good shows.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 3:01 PM

I'm really regretting the $230 I spent for the 3 day pass, particularly with Deerhunter playing in Williamsburg on Sunday...

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 3:07 PM

It was really disappointing that, once again, no single day of this festival is worth the price of admission... to pay how much to see MBV and, well, maybe Mogwai? To pay how much to only check out the YYY's? Please, APW, if you're reading this, consolidate to two days next year and keep this lineup... then it might be worth it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 3:11 PM

Once again? I'd say last year Friday and Saturday were well worth the price of one day passes for Radiohead alone.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 3:18 PM

Ok hold a second. This is $230 for three days? HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!! Listen everyone - stop fighting. Have a wonderful time. It looks like a super jam-packed fun fest full of really happening, way-cool stuff.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 3:51 PM

I forgot to mention - don't think about the fact that ATP is $250. Your $230 is SO well spent.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 3:52 PM

last year was basically a two night stand of radiohead's new york tour dates plus some supporting acts. at the price of standard radiohead giant field concerts.

this year just all-around blows. most of the acts on there can still be seen in tiny venues for around twenty bucks.

and as others have said, next weekend's free music throughout the city looks to be a better overall value (obviously factoring in the price) than this overpriced suckfest.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 4:16 PM

too bad I am mega broke ass

Posted by zincink | July 25, 2009 4:54 PM

Wait, did the AM highline ballroom show finally go on general sale???

Posted by jessica | July 25, 2009 5:10 PM

it is ridiculous that M Ward has to play at exact time as Dean & Britta. There are so many days in the summer, why offer these shows at same time?

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 5:29 PM

Tool, fucking MBV, crap-o Coldplay and even Jay Z...ring me up the next time they are playing for $20 in fucking Brooklyn.

Besides Crystal Castles will put in THE performance of the weekend. Doh!

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 6:50 PM

Does anyone think it would've made more sense to have MGMT play before Coldplay and then just give Echo & The Bunneymen the other stage headlining slot. That way, the people that come there to see Echo could see them without jockeying for position with Coldplay fans. Just a thought...

Also, why are The Ting Tings playing at the same time as Tool? Wouldn't it make more sense to just have them take some 3pm day slot and just let Tool close out the show without other stages?

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 7:29 PM

"Tool, fucking MBV, crap-o Coldplay and even Jay Z...ring me up the next time they are playing for $20 in fucking Brooklyn."

i think that validates the point about really paying top dollar for one act each night.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 7:56 PM

All Points MEHst.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 8:12 PM

This is over 200 dollars? Christ.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 9:19 PM

"I can't wait to see Elbow." - hahahah. wow. that's $200 worth of elbow!

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 9:36 PM

Oh sweet, another of those threads where various people like and don't like a festival lineup. I hope someone says "meh".

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2009 11:48 PM

meh

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 1:03 AM

"Oh sweet, another of those threads where various people like and don't like a festival lineup."

except i'm having trouble finding anyone that likes this one.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 1:34 AM

"except i'm having trouble finding anyone that likes this one."

That's because most people who comment here don't have enough money to go to a festival so they decide to bash it to feel better about their lives. Have fun seeing Dan Deacon, just another guy no one will remember next year.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 3:29 AM

I both like this year's APW lineup and will remember (albeit not enjoy) Dan Deacon next year. You BV commenters and your absolutes.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 3:54 AM

"Have fun seeing Dan Deacon, just another guy no one will remember next year."

After how many years of people enjoying and paying attention to an artist does this argument go away? 1? 2? 3? I guess anon 3:54 will have to keep us posted.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 4:08 AM

Well, as far as rude comments...

Consider this site has a large number of readers. For anything posted, let's say that 10% hate it (this is probably actually quite low). Out of that 10%, let's say 10% of those feel the need to speak up and be annoying, rude, or whatever (not unreasonable). Out of every 100 people reading, that's one annoying comment. Covering something with a high degree of backlash will increase these odds. Furthermore, there's nothing stopping that one person from posting multiple times as "anonymous."

Then again, some people are just trying to be annoying.

Posted by The End of Irony | July 26, 2009 11:32 AM

"Consider this site has a large number of readers."

this site averages only about 1,000 unique readers per day, with a large chunk coming by way of both spin and pitchfork. decent for a blog, i guess.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 12:26 PM

@12:26 that's probably the funniest thing i've read.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 12:30 PM

Dan Deacon is one of the top artists of the decade. you've been saying that stupid shit how no one will remember him for the past 3 years now like a broken record. like someone will remember you? Deacon is making HISTORY, you're making OBSCURITY.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 12:45 PM

Dan Deacon is better than all APW artists except Jay-Z, Q-Tip, Todd Barry and Mogwai. And Deerhunter is better than Dan Deacon.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 1:06 PM

for those that went last yea, what's security like over there? Do they bring out the military and national guard or is it like Coachella where they hardly check tickets?

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 3:42 PM

It was pretty laid back

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 4:30 PM

"That's because most people who comment here don't have enough money to go to a festival so they decide to bash it to feel better about their lives. Have fun seeing Dan Deacon, just another guy no one will remember next year."

you are a fucking idiot. have fun at the clam bake.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 5:54 PM

Gutted to miss Saturday's show. Tool and MBV on the same stage! So sad! Have fun all who go, screw the haters, this was a good time last year, sure to be fun this year too...

Posted by brian Roach | July 26, 2009 6:14 PM

dan deacon licks nuts.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 7:10 PM

I love all these emo fags defending Dan Deacon. It makes me feel so much better about my life.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 7:53 PM

>for those that went last yea, what's security
>like over there? Do they bring out the military
>and national guard or is it like Coachella where
>they hardly check tickets?

Just don't bother bringing in any alcohol. That's pretty much all they're checking for, and they've got a ton of garbage cans just filled with bottles, cans and flasks or earlier stupid people.

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 8:13 PM

I'd rather be an "emo fag" than think it's cool to use "fag" as an insult. So, I'm glad we both feel good about our lives.

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2009 12:53 AM

gotcha

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2009 1:36 AM

I find 12:53's comment insensitive. Bigotphobia is not cool.

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2009 2:10 AM

If you can't go to APW or are strapped for cash (who isn't in this economy?), SSPU are playing a private pre-show for free (!) in New York before their APW show. I already won tickets and it was pretty easy.

Enter here and hope to see you at SSPU and APW!

I'm going Sunday and wish I could get my money back... Last time I'll even look at an APW lineup.. Lame

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2009 4:21 PM

I ordered 3-day pass tickets in April and still have not received them. They shipped my tickets to the wrong address and have made minimal effort to ensure I have these in time for the festival. If this is the incompetence before the show I cannot imagine the fiasco which will occur during it. Jay-Z is great but he plays 5 concerts a year in NYC this isn't really a rarity for us.

Posted by Steve | July 29, 2009 9:01 PM

I really, really want to sneak in alcohol. What if I buy a tiny, plastic flask (they are bend-able) and place it in my undies? I'm gonna have spandex and a skirt on.

Thoughts??

Posted by Elizabeth | July 30, 2009 11:45 AM

i just dread one hour wait to get searched at the gate just to get in.

also to the person who said they weren't really checking for dope, I personally saw people getting arrested for pills and grass in their backpack, they had state troopers right inside the gate ready to take you down. so you might want to have a back up plan or something... just saying...

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2009 11:53 AM

And what about putting alcohol into a sun lotion bottle? Like put it in, and then take plastic wrap or something and put it in, then put sun lotion in and so they could test the bottle and sun lotion would come on. Then later, take the plastic wrap out with lotion in it and the alcohol is in the bottom. Anyone ever try this?

Posted by Elizabeth | July 30, 2009 12:06 PM

Elizabeth, that is way more effort than I think its worth. Sticking it up near your chach will probably suffice.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2009 12:13 PM

Does security check the bathrooms? Will it be easy to sneak small children into the porto-potties for a quick beejay?

Posted by Therapist | July 30, 2009 12:20 PM

Well I want to drink and watch Mgmt, come on, lads. I don't drink beer so I don't see why I should have to suffer. :) And I wouldn't be putting it up anything, that's gross. It would be ON my underwear, it's just plastic. I just wonder if they'd check around there. I don't know how security is for this concert.

Posted by Elizabeth | July 30, 2009 12:36 PM

I said "up near" your chach, not up in it. If you secure it to that general area under your tights or whatever, you'll probably be fine. The security line is long and they don't scrutinize too much, but it's not exactly a free-for-all, either. Just be smart about it and you should be fine.

The "drugs at the bottom of the backpack" approach is definitely not sophisticated enough, to give you some reference.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2009 12:44 PM

Alright, well, thanks for the tip. Will they kick me out if they do find the booze, though? Or will they just take it away?

Posted by Elizabeth | July 30, 2009 1:26 PM

Can't tell ya, but I would guess they will just toss it and let you in, full of shame

just for the record. I went to the three for all show at the airport pool in Jersey w/ deacon, deerhunter and no age. I was a little skeptical at first but it was actually was one of the most well ran and overall worthwhile shows Ive even been too.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 11:11 AM

security was rediculous. I immediately got searched because of all things, a DSLR with my stock lens. It was literally like airport security to get in. They were mostly checking for bud and booze though, atleast the security guards, cops probably a different story.

Whatr they gunna do next year, have drug sniffing dogs on the grounds?
