Sufjan Stevens w/ Clogs @ BAM in February (more by Kyle Dean Reinford)
Sufjan Stevens

We are extremely excited to announce the addition of Sufjan Stevens to the ATP-curated Saturday lineup. Stevens, who will be releasing Run Rabbit Run (a re-arrangement of his 2001 album Enjoy Your Rabbit) in October, has not played a US show in over two years, and this is sure to be a special performance. [ATP NY]
Sufjan is one of the most recent additions to ATP NY, running September 11th-13th in Monticello, NY. It'll be his first show in a while, though over the past year Sufjan has made appearances joining St. Vincent at BAM, The Welcome Wagon at St. Paul's Lutheran and the Clogs with My Brightest Diamond (which you can see above) again at BAM .

Sufjan will be joined on the Saturday bill by new additions Shellac, Circulatory System and Grouper (who we previously announced).

On the Sunday, the Flaming Lips-curated bill has added Crystal Castles, who has been touring North America and Europe. They're also on the schedule for All Points West on August 1st.

Other Sunday additions are Super Furry Animals (who are also playing Maxwell's and Highline Ballroom), Boris, Low Lows and Oneida, the latter of which will perform a special set, described below...

"Oneida presents the Ocropolis" - where Oneida will transport the impetus, spirit and community of their multidisciplinary studio/performance space, The Ocropolis, to ATP for a full day of improvisation, collaboration, and recording, combined with the astounding Mighty Robot Visuals light crew.
Limited tickets for the fest are still on sale. Ongoing coverage of ATP NY and related NYC-area shows HERE. Full lineup so far below...

Sufjan, Crystal Castles and Flaming Lips??? Count me OUT.

I think ATP NY is very compromised this year...need to stick to the more cult and avant garde acts. They just seem to be pandering to the Pitchfork crowd to sell tickets. There are still a lot of good bands, but you know there are going to be a lot more douche bags than last year.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 10:37 AM

I'd go if there was a David Yow and Steve Albini vs. Sufjan Stevens and Alice whatever steel cage match.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 10:38 AM

! circulatory system !

they are amazing live

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 10:41 AM

Haters step to the left!

PLEASE!!!!! This line-up is SICK! If ATP was cheaper and earier to get to, you would ALL be super-excited about this show. It's too expensive and out of the way for me to attend, but I would love to be there! I really can't believe that anyone could say that this show is lacking or "compromised".

In my opinion, Animal Collective/PB, Sufjan, El-P, Akron Fam, Flaming Lips, Boris, Caribou, Boredoms, SFA, and Deerhoof is better than any festival line-up this year!

10:50 got into music about a week ago. Still fawning over Sufjan b/c his first girlfriend was such a big fan.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 10:55 AM

Lineup is good and I am sure it will get better, but like 10:50 said this shit is too expensive.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 10:56 AM

jesus lizard, dirty three, suicide, the feelies, shellac, melvins, autolux, dead meadow, surfjam stevie, animal collective, no age (probably with bob mould), caribou, deerhoof, boris, and several other worthy acts, render pathetic and moot the plaintive whining of anonymous bv commenters that this year will somehow be inferior to last year. enjoy sitting at home, douchebags. (crystal castles does suck though.)

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 10:58 AM

Yeah, it's expensive, but the overall experience is worth it. You wouldn't understand unless you go to one.

Crystal Castles.. Yek.. I'm sure the sound won't be up to their perfectionist standards.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 10:59 AM

The funny part is, Crystal Castles actually DO NOT suck, and I comment ATP for booking them. It makes the lineup more interesting as a whole.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 11:06 AM

truth of the matter is...it doesn't hold a flame to last year's line up.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 11:10 AM

"10:50 got into music about a week ago. Still fawning over Sufjan b/c his first girlfriend was such a big fan."

I saw the Flaming Lips and Jesus Lizard play when you were still rocking Candlebox. Slow your roll, fool!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 11:10 AM

I have been to every ATP in the US thus far and I still may not go to this one. Go on their website and look at the lineups over the years - every year there has been a clear trend of them getting more and more commercial.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 11:16 AM

May have to take a ride up Rt. 17 after all.

Posted by drewo | July 10, 2009 11:16 AM

run rabbit run?? is this a homage/tribute to John Updike? anyone?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 11:20 AM

>>I saw the Flaming Lips and Jesus Lizard play when you were still rocking Candlebox. Slow your roll, fool!

I don't even know who Candlebox are . . . is this an insult of some sort?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 11:23 AM

if they conjure the spirits of Jeff Hanson and Elliott Smith I may go

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 11:27 AM

will this be set up with multiple stages? in other words, is there a way for me to avoid having to listen to the Crystal Castles if I go to this?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 11:30 AM

people who don't like Crystal Castles = NERDS

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 11:31 AM

This lineup needs more Woodsist Bands

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 11:32 AM

@11:32 ULTRA LOL!!!

If the setup is the same as last year there are two indoor stages (one larger, one smaller) in two completely separate areas of the resort. So yes, you can avoid Crystal Castles completely if you want. You could even catch a film at that time.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 11:34 AM

no WAVVES??? pfft...forget it then...i'm not going.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 11:38 AM

holy hell this lineup is absurd

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 11:53 AM

Not only can you avoid watching a band you don't want to see, you can row a boat across the pond, swim in the indoor pool, use the Sauna, play tennis, or even golf if you want to. The place rules. Last year, there actually seemed to be no rules. They let us run wild so long as shit didn't get broken. I fear the clamps will be put down this year.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 11:57 AM

every year there has been a clear trend of them getting more and more commercial.

>>>

Yes these bands are SO commercial..

it must be hard to see your computer screen with your head up your ass..

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 12:01 PM

meh

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 12:04 PM

there really are no rules.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 12:07 PM

@12:01

Are you disputing that Flaming Lips, Animal Collective, Super Furry Animals, Iron & Wine, Crystal Castles and Sufjan Stevens aren't incredibly popular bands who have probably sold a combined total of multiple millions of records worldwide? Who has their head up their ass?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 12:11 PM

12:11 what is your point? You don't like bands that make money? Should ATP be allowed to make money?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 12:18 PM

the addition of crystal shit has seriously diminished the integrity of this event. seriously

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 12:18 PM

@ 12:18 My only point was to say that a lot of these bands are "commercial" by any standard. I don't care whether a band makes money or doesn't really. But you have to admit that a lot of these bands have much more mass appeal than previous ATP events.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 12:23 PM

Flaming Lips and possibly Iron & Wine (and them only this year) are probably the only two who have genuinely sold a million or more. whats talked about on the Internet doesn't equal what sells to large numbers of people.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 12:31 PM

i am more excited about this lineup than last year as a whole. the mbv just seemed like a 90's reunion (albeit an awesome one in every conceivable way). this year is much more diverse and colorful to me. it just rules in every possible way. if this is the definition of commercial, i am there. i would rather fetch the $$ for this than any of the other 'big' festivals this year hands down.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 12:32 PM

@12:31 You would be surprised how much a lot of these bands are selling. I recently saw some numbers...Fleet Foxes have scanned 300,000 of the LP and EP in the U.S. alone. Their next record could go gold. If they are moving that much I am sure the Lips, Sufjan and Iron & Wine are doing really well.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 12:39 PM

...and crystal castles is now the worst band playing. What's Wayne thinking? Boredoms and Crystal castles together is shameful

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 1:15 PM

I still wouldn't classify these bands as "commercial"

Big indie bands yes.. Fleet Foxes aren't even playing this ATP
...Compare this line up to Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, ACL and the other big US festivals and you'll see a big difference...
not to mention look at the ATP ad.. you wont find any commercial sponsors at all just like always..
All that being said... you cant have 30 Deerhunters on the bill...headliners for any festival need to have broader appeal and ATP has always had similar type of a ratio.... also what works in the UK doesn't necessarily work in the US

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 1:17 PM

"Flaming Lips and possibly Iron & Wine (and them only this year) are probably the only two who have genuinely sold a million or more."
HAHAHAHA, yeah right.
Flaming Lips "At War With The Mystics"- 216000 units moved in US to date from Soundscan.
Iron & Fucking Wine !?!? get real

100,000 is gold. So Fleet Foxes would have already hit gold by your numbers, which by the way, are full of shit.

Posted by Nugs | July 10, 2009 1:17 PM

@Nugs

You are ignorant please be quiet and go away:

"Currently, the RIAA certification criteria for albums are: 500,000 units - Gold album."

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 1:30 PM

210,000 as of February: http://pitchfork.com/news/34370-fleet-foxes-hate-major-labels/

300,000 by now seems pretty plausible. I guess you've been corrected, hater.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 1:53 PM

Yes well said>

"The funny part is, Crystal Castles actually DO NOT suck,"

neither funny, nor valid

Posted by alice gas | July 10, 2009 2:27 PM

that bjork ad is fucking annoying. can't you get like sham-wow or snuggy ads on here?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 2:46 PM

bob mould, david yow, steve albini, alan vega = commercial sell out bullshit.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 3:26 PM

^--------- dumbest comment of the year! Congratulations!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 3:31 PM

considering they've had more and more events each year...they're bound to use more bands... some of it has to be "commercial" to some of yalls standards.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 4:30 PM

^--------- dumbest comment of the year! Congratulations!

>
I think he was being sarcastic.....at least I hope so

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 5:23 PM

autolux sold me for this show .

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 7:35 PM

Last year: Lightning Bolt
This year: Crystal Castles

Last year wins.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 8:15 PM

I agree, last year I was way more psyched about the line up but I am still going this year and really looking forward to it. I really hope the "no rules" thing still flies, much better atmosphere without having to be searched every two seconds like at other festivals. We were good last year (as far as I could tell), we promise to be good again. And to boot, you can play mini golf with me during Crystal Castles and we wont have to here any of it!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 8:49 PM

Boredoms, Crystal Castles and Flaming Lips are my fave bands. I'm so fucking there even though it'll take me a day to get there.

Posted by Curt | July 11, 2009 7:32 PM

I'm glad they added Soof-john and Crystal Castles, because I have to take meal breaks at some point. Aside from that I'm mystified that anyone can think this doesn't look like an absolutely amazing weekend of music...you people are too funny.
