Deer Tick and Dawes played a sold out, tour-ending show to a packed house at Bowery Ballroom in NYC on Friday (7/24).

These United States (who play Mercury Lounge on August 27th) (and two shows at Union Hall the very next day) opened the show. Anna said they had an “energetic, fun alt-country rock vibe”, and an “interesting sound with the pedal steel – a good mixture of rock songs as well as more folky slow songs.”

Dawes, who also played their own headlining set Sunday night at Union Hall, played second at Bowery to an enthusiastic crowd. They graciously thanked everyone for coming, and thanked Deer Tick for the tour. Deer Tick then joined them on stage at the end for a rowdy version of “When My Time Comes”.

Deer Tick‘s headlining set was a combination of songs off their new album (Born on Flag Day), old favorites off War Elephant, and covers including one Nirvana song and “La Bamba” for the encore that had the stage full with all three bands, members of bands that were just in the audience, and many other audience members as well. Earlier in show Liz Isenberg (who has been touring with the band) came up to sing (as she always does when she is around), and Tick front-man John McCauley (who was and is always engaging the crowd) pulled an audience member on stage so she could sing “These Old Shoes” with him because it was her birthday.
