Dont bring these things

"The emails have been piling up and everyone's asking, "dude, what's up with the Pool Parties?" Well DUDE, so sorry to keep you waiting, but here at JELLY we've been working our asses off to bring you one of the greatest free concert series in history. The Pool Parties are going to be extremely crucial this year, "epic" or "amazing" as you people say these days. Seriously, eight weeks of FREE shows on the waterfront of Williamsburg? Does it get any better? You might be thinking "waterfront"? Yeah, in case you didn't hear the McCarren Pool's closed so get over it :) , and yeah we kept the name Pool Parties even though the East River's not at a pool, so what? We've still got DODGEBALL, basketball, DJ's, bands, burgers the works! We love you more than your parents ever could, and if you want to have fun and hang out with us this summer. [Full schedule below]. Bring your friends but please don't bring these things [pictured above]. As you can see below, underage drinking will not be tolerated. . You guys wouldn't do that though, so there's nothing to worry about. Thank you for visiting and stay tuned!!" -Jelly

Posted by anonymous2 | July 2, 2009 10:40 AM

very nice lineups this year

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 10:44 AM

the dirty projectors / magnolia Electric Co matchup is such a strange one. Such opposite sides of the musical spectrum. Should be very fun though.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 10:44 AM

at least they know their audience.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 10:45 AM

The dumbasses spelled GRAVY TRAIN!!!! with one exclamation point too few.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 10:48 AM

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:13 AM

Sorry if this is stupid (their prohibited items graphic blows), can you bring dogs?

Posted by Anonymooose | July 2, 2009 11:14 AM

No, fuck your dogs.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:14 AM

probably their best summer line up yet, the pool hoster "bigger bands" in the past but they were never free, so as far as the free shows go, these are fucking great. I plan on Deerhunter and Grizzly Bear and Dirty Projectors. Girl Talk will be a clusterfuck of teenagers.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:17 AM

slip and slide?

Posted by slippy | July 2, 2009 11:18 AM

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:20 AM

I don't care what they say, I'm wearing cargo shorts and bringing my magic wand.

Posted by MJT | July 2, 2009 11:22 AM

what a jerky announcement. why do they have to be like that? working your asses off? come on, we're not curing cancer here. good job with the free concerts and thanks but try not to be such a douche about it please.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:22 AM

it says nothing about a slip and slide on the new website

Posted by slippy | July 2, 2009 11:24 AM

who dropped out of art school to make that shitty poster/list? your parents are proud

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:25 AM

im so down w/ everything but girl talk. love the lineup this year!

Posted by sarahspy | July 2, 2009 11:25 AM

guess since they worked their asses off on the line-up, there wasn't any money left for the poster-worst graphic design ever

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:30 AM

UPDATE: the slip 'n slide has been replaced with kiddie pools

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:30 AM

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:31 AM

line up this year= win

graphic design on their poster= EPIC FAIL

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:34 AM

cargo shorts prohibited? nice to see the inclusiveness. i guess instead i'll have to wear my uber-cool i-think-its-underground non-mainstream hipster uniform, sponsored by spin, bud lite, and the edge condo.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:34 AM

Looks like TBA got bumped from the bill...again!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:34 AM

"Rainbow colors in my cup"

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:40 AM

I know Love Is Laughter is playing for free at Music Hall of Williamsburg after the Mission of Burma show. does anyone know if Music Hall will be doing free shows after all of these Sunday shows?

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:41 AM

i'm pretty certain bikes aren't allowed inside the park.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:41 AM

I want rainbow colors in MY cup!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:45 AM

everyone will be drinking all the time at these

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:52 AM

Are you kidding me?
No one cares about this bullshit.
MICHAEL JACKSON IS DEAD. And that's the worst logo ever!

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:55 AM

thank god hidden j-bones are still allowed.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 12:06 PM

Although Girl Talk will undoubtedly be a shitshow, it would almost be worth it to go see Max Tundra making everyone all uncomfortable beforehand. Almost.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 12:06 PM

They're all great line-ups, but it's a shame they dumped the one non-indie week they've slipped into the schedule the past few years.

Posted by J | July 2, 2009 12:06 PM

Can't bring my enema bag? I always enjoy a good douche at an indie show.........

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 12:26 PM

If I can't bring my flying star replica with retractable knives that I got from the Krull fan club, I'm not coming to these stupid parties, FTW!

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 12:30 PM

Haha no douchbags, eagles, or NO KRULL STARS LOL!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 12:31 PM

fiery furnaces are opening for DJs?

And if you're going to let Del on the premises, you might as well go nuts and make the rest of that one show all hip hop.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 12:35 PM

They Added Prince Paul to that date on the site

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 12:38 PM

no cargo shorts? what's johnny beach gonna wear?

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 12:39 PM

Why can't I wear cargo shorts?!

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 12:45 PM

remember when we had a waterfront park and not a commercial indie rock venue on public property?

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 12:50 PM

what the fuck, this line up is incredible and i wont be in the city for any of them! this i the best year by far. i would go to every single one of these. FAK.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 12:50 PM

11:34 AM = Hilarious

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 12:51 PM

No cargo shorts = get laid

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 12:54 PM

You can't wear cargo shorts because cargo shorts means you're a jock and jocks are not allowed to indie shows.

Or it could be that people use their cargo shorts to smuggle in their booze for their underage ass.

But I'm going to say it's a bad joke because their also banning Uggs and I can't think of one reason besides them being out of fashion.

Posted by Mr. Blackwell | July 2, 2009 1:02 PM

snakeman, lol. please bring your snakes anyway.
I think i've seen the black lips for free in nyc 3 years in a row. this will be the fourth. dan deacon too. and it's so good because they are both great.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 1:02 PM

MehCarren pool. you guuuyyysss.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 1:09 PM

i & i bring herb

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 1:11 PM

10:59 no snakes

Snakes is a youfamism for scumbags.

Posted by mike flood | July 2, 2009 1:20 PM

it would be fun to play "spot the viral comments by guys who work for JellyNYC" except that there's no challenge in it. they're so clumsy at making fake positive posts that a 9 year old could figure it out.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 1:20 PM

Don't bother showing up. It's already been cancelled due to excessive snark and faggotry.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 1:28 PM

no UGGs....hahahaha.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 1:30 PM

"it's a shame they dumped the one non-indie week they've slipped into the schedule the past few years."

I agree. Where's the diversity? I had to miss the Ponderosa Stomp because I was out of town, and this year there is nothing but Pitchfork-approved music.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 1:49 PM

On the Black Lips myspace page, they are listed to be playing in San Franciso on July 26...

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 2:14 PM

So... you can't bring in cargo shorts, canteens or bald eagles... but it makes no mention of a fat blunt. sweet!

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 2:34 PM

1:49 - what other genres do you want to hear? World music? Country? they have their own "fests"

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 2:43 PM

Whats the point of viral videos unless its some kid coming down after the dentist

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 3:39 PM

No mention of a "fat bunt" either, so all you indie fattys are welcome

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 4:09 PM

well I'm brining snakes.

Posted by snakeman | July 2, 2009 4:27 PM

>>what other genres do you want to hear? World music? Country? they have their own "fests"

The last three years there's been a day of soul, but anything else would be good. Sure, there's a variety of music throughout the city's other free summer concerts, but it's unfortunate to not mix it up when you've got a chance. Bring different people to the venue, bring people who come to the venue to different music. This line-up, as great and varied as it is, is sort of Blog Readers Unite.

Posted by J | July 2, 2009 5:11 PM

"it's a shame they dumped the one non-indie week they've slipped into the schedule the past few years."

different booker this year. one who booked the past three years is working elsewhere. (and it shows)

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 6:45 PM

If people showed up to the non-indie-rock shows, maybe they would have more of them.
Truth is, people that go to other types of shows play it very safe and do not take a chance to check out a venue that is not part of their normal routine.
It's unfortunate, but only the folks who are into indie-rock will take a chance and go somewhere that is not already part of the mainstream.
If promoters booked something different, they would be taking a huge risk and might lose their shirt.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 7:51 PM

well look who managed to pull off the one thing they do, by the skin of their ass, at the last second before they fucked everything up and ceased to exist

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 8:20 PM

Posted by beer | July 2, 2009 8:50 PM

Posted by ben | July 2, 2009 9:42 PM

If you've never seen DD/MM/YYYY live they'll make it worth the trip.

Posted by Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:57 PM

anyone else PUMPED they'll be serving bud light?

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2009 5:27 PM

it's nice though, after three summers as a shitty venue the Pool Parties turned enough attention to mccarren that it's turning back into a pool, after one summer (with 10k+ visitors a week) that park will return itself to being a shitty abandoned lot, all that's left'll be that parks dept tent and the awkward house...

Posted by Anonymous | July 3, 2009 6:05 PM

girl talk is going to be amazing!

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2009 3:40 PM

^---- yeah! have fun with that whole thing.

Posted by Anonymous | July 4, 2009 3:44 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 6, 2009 11:18 AM

What time does the first band start? 3?

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 12:16 PM

so anyone use this for actual hypothesized info? like what time burma may expect to hit? my guess is 6?

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 1:05 PM

That was a blast, thanks! I don't understand all the criticism, they're FREE SHOWS!!!

Posted by ps | July 13, 2009 8:33 PM

what time does the music actually start?

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2009 1:47 PM

it looks as if weed, blow and lsd are ok.

Posted by anonymous | July 26, 2009 3:19 PM

Serious, why no Cargo shorts?

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2009 1:03 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2009 2:22 PM

I want to avoid the carnival- what time does the music start?

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2009 12:39 PM

Thanks for the comment Steve. I actually wrote in a comment here a few weeks ago asking what was happening with this blog after the announcement that O'Reilly was dropping the Digital Media division. It's really refreshing to get an honest comment on what's happening. I really hope the blog picks up again.
