"hahah, the people there WERE hilarious. hippies indeed.Man Man played a free show in East River Park (the Manhattan one) last night (7/16). Video from the show below...man man were fucking savage though. what an incredible live act. who needs to even listen to their recorded stuff when their live show trumps it that hard." great show, but i have never hated an audience so much in my life. nothing but fucking drunk high school kids who'd been let out of their cages
Posted by Anonymous | July 17, 2009 9:24 AM
there were a lot of smelly wanna be hippie high school kids, but at least they brought plenty of energy
wish they played every song of six demon bag and nothing off rabbit habits... but hey, that's just me

I saw a bit of the show. Lots of moshing in the front. Wild dancing men/boys mostly. The band has no guitar, some sort of gamalon sounding percussion.
Wacky music, sounded to me like frank zappa mixed with beefhart, or i dunno. Juvenile, you would never want these guys to be in an apt near you. I got bored and left, which is not a judgement on the band, just not my cup of tea. It was fun, for a bit.

ive only gotten into these guys in the last few months. i find their albums boring but the live clips really interesting...particularly the one of them in paris.
this show was great but as someone mentioned, i felt old. the crowd felt like a lot of suburban hippie kids. it was fine enough and the energy was better than not having any at all but i just cant get down with that.
musically, the band sounded pretty great...i think of them like a pop version of beefheart...something i always wanted to hear and see. they do it well.

The crowd was mostly young and they were really into it. I'm not interested in getting close to the stage at this point in my life so they can get crazy while I hang out in peace further back. The crowd energy definitely adds to the show so it's a win win.
Of course Man Man were once again fantastic. I've never been disappointed by one of their performances.

so many cute boys to eat with a spoon.

Those kids were SOOOOO young. Still, I've been in worse crowds recently.

They played a free one at the Rock 'n' Roll HOF in Cleveland last week. Pretty great show, fun to watch the last straggling vacationing families walking out of the museum, laden down with shite from the FYE giftshop, and walking straight into the Man Man concert on the front plaza.

These guys are great. Their show at McCarren Pool a few years back is one of my all time faves!

I love Man Man...I was chatting with Honus Honus last week when he suggested that he might kidnap me because he thought it'd be fun to see my face on a milk carton.
I thought the sound sucked (particularly until they replaced the mic cable) and they didn't have the energy they usually play with. It seemed like HH couldn't hear himself. Last week HH spent tons of the time standing on his keyboard and it wasn't until the last few songs that he had that kind of energy (like when he threw his seat at the keyboard).
Did anyone see the attention-starved hula girl? Dudes playing hackey sack? Not your typical Man Man audience.

it was basically peter pan and the lost boys....

A lot of the crowd was young, but that's not what bothered me. Kids were having fun, you know? it's better than a bunch of cross armed 20-somethings, standing still, totally unimpressed and trying to look cool. I did feel a bit old, but I guess that comes with the territory when surrounded by teenagers. Do kind of wish I saw them earlier, but somehow missed them every tiem over the past 4 years.
