Team Robespierre

"Last night a whole lot of music fans packed themselves onto Pier 54 for the first concert in the Hudson River Park's RiverRocks concert series. The show featured three performances (wait, can I call a DJ set a performance? ok, fine I guess so). First up was Team Robespierre, a punk band from Brooklyn. They seemed a little off, but at least they were singing...which leads me to the next group Flosstradamus, a pair of DJs. The music was good, but it wasn't the right time or place for a DJ set. The pier was completely flat, so odds were that your experience at that point involved a dance-track backed view of the sunset. It wasn't much of a dance party where I was standing, half-way down the pier, but maybe they were appreciating the music up front. When Matt and Kim took the stage there were joined by two giant screens, which were used to project close-ups of the musicians as well as some animated patterns." [Second Doubles]
Flosstradamus play again tonight/Friday at Studio B. More pictures from last night's show at the pier, below...

Let the snark begin......

could you post a more generic write up of the show?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 3:25 PM

i rarely snark, but matt & kim's enthusiasm sickens me.

Posted by beast | July 10, 2009 3:27 PM

Matt & Kim smile way too fucking much.

Posted by redpoint | July 10, 2009 3:30 PM

I bet you those security guards had a good time.

Blinded By the White.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 3:32 PM

@3:25

Here is an alternate write-up for you, you can also refer to this for 90% of the shows posted on here:

A bunch of white liberal arts grads from midwestern colleges no one has ever heard of who arrived in New York two weeks ago after securing overpriced Williamsburg rat-trap apartments gathered at a generic shithole to listen to music that no one with half a brain has ever given a fuck about.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 3:35 PM

Kim > Peggy Wang

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 3:41 PM

team robespierre is literally the worst shit i have EVER heard.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 3:50 PM

I went. It was shit.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 3:53 PM

LOL at the bass player playing a rickenbacker with a pick.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 3:54 PM

Matt and Kim just FEEL like fakes to me. The smiles and relationship -band -- uucck. GROSS. I can't wait till one of the fucks their publicist and they break up and do shitty SOLO albums!!! :)

that would make my year.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 3:59 PM

sheep seems to flock to anything free involving a stage that features a drummer who can barely play and songs that blow

but they sure do love SMILING!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 4:07 PM

MEHt and Kim...

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 4:07 PM

@3:54

LOL at Paul McCartney
Modest Mouse
REM
The Smiths
The Who
The Clash

You sure you want to do that?

I bet you play your Rickenbacker with your dick.
If you own one. Just sayin'.

Pick + Bass = Music

flosstradamus was easily the best part of the show
the audience consisted of a bunch of 16-18 year olds

Posted by leo | July 10, 2009 4:17 PM

They're smiling so fucking hard because they are so happy duh. If I was there I'd fucking freeze my face smiling so hard. you shitheads like you wouldn't understand.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 4:18 PM

Normally its pretty hard to complain about something thats free. Not so for last nights disaster at pier 54.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 4:36 PM

Hard to understand when you sound like an over-caffeinated 14 YO, but whatever you say.

You can say that again.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 4:43 PM

i utterly despise flosstradamus. how do you get popular playing nothing but outdated "now that's what i call dance" CDs?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 4:46 PM

i agree flosstradamus was the highlight of the gathering. esp when they tapped into some diplo. plenty of emo kids sitting indian style crying, smoking black&milds, made me vomit on today's current style.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 4:51 PM

emo kids fiend having chili dogs thrown at there stupid lifestyles. DONT RUIN MY MOM'S JORDACHE JEANS!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 4:55 PM

4:55 FTW?

Maybe, I appreciate the total incoherence.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 5:00 PM

3:35-well said

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 5:03 PM

I'm sure the people who comment about the abundance of white people at these shows are white themselves. Because everyone knows black people don't read Brooklyn Vegan.

Posted by M | July 10, 2009 5:04 PM

The sound last night was so god awful. I could not hear a thing over all the tweens twittering.

Posted by P | July 10, 2009 5:10 PM

the sound really sucked alot during M&K .... seemed like everybody exits after the 3rd song. the one speaker in back was barely working. sounded better on the bike path at 14th street. totally lame.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 5:22 PM

soak a chicken in a jar of warm milk for at least 2 weeks and then open the jar at the next show such as this

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 5:23 PM

oh, warm milk. i keep refrigerating that shit.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 5:34 PM

"Because everyone knows black people don't read Brooklyn Vegan."

@M5:04 - Totally ignorant generalization.

Posted by blackhat | July 10, 2009 5:59 PM

I'm sure everybody who got there at like 5pm and managed to be one of the first 20 or so rows of people had a fun time. It sucked hippie balls for everyone else who couldn't see the stage or hear anything. Left after the 3rd song.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 6:02 PM

Blackhat-

That was a joke.

Posted by M | July 10, 2009 6:05 PM

you guys are horrible. let them fucking be happy its not a sin!!!! u wish u could be as happy as them!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 6:31 PM

@M5:04/6:05 - Sorry then.

Posted by blackhat | July 10, 2009 7:27 PM

you shitheads like you wouldn't understand.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 7:49 PM

what becomes of the 1,000,000,000 shitty CD-r/Vinyl copies of the 1,000,000,000 shitty bands that exist these days and put out product???---is a special landfill being developed in Brooklyn to accommodate the day when people figure out none of these bands have any staying power--and there is no need to be reminded of this time in music

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 7:56 PM

7:56 is a prophet.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 8:01 PM

Just following after 6:02's comment- yeah I got there at 5 and got to be up front and did have a good time. The keyboard at M&K sounded off tune some how although I could tell all the notes and playing was there- but up front the energy and dancing still rocked. Looking behind me, past 3-4 rows from the front were all the people that were just staring motionless... I did wonder how the show went for people in the back and I guess now I know after reading all the comments, yikes guys.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2009 8:15 PM

@7:56: what's a cd-r?

You sound old.

i look forward to the nuclear storage waste on kent/metropolitan blowing up and that williamsburg burns down, taking all the mediocre shit with it...or at least charring it

"When Matt and Kim took the stage there were joined by two giant screens, which were used to project close-ups of the musicians as well as some animated patterns."

wtf kind of write-up is that?

Duffman wants his T-Shirt gun back

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2009 1:14 AM

Who's Duffman? Dustin Hoffman's alter ego or something?

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2009 2:30 AM

All of you are right, smiling IS for losers. They would be so much cooler if they had no enthusiasm and stared at their cons. If they go to shows to see other bands they should also totally NOT clap or dance. Now THAT would be so awesome.

turds.

Posted by John | July 11, 2009 4:28 AM

Theres something je ne sai quio about these two I just can't put my dick on it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2009 8:06 AM

the sound was better on the bike path about 30- 40 yards north of the Entrance. The wind blows the sound uptown! and why did KIm use the work F**king so often in her little speach about how wonderful everyone is.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2009 8:34 AM

I don't think wind can blow sound foward like its a fart. They're frequency waves...

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2009 9:37 AM

whatever.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2009 9:38 AM

and farts sound better than matt and kim...

meh-meh, meh-meh, mehhhhmeh meh-meh

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2009 2:15 PM

You all seem to very much hate the "scene" - why do you then continue to go to all these concerts? I am not trying to be snarky - I seriously do not understand! NYC has plenty of options for all sorts of people to be entertained - why persist in going to these events that apparently make you so furious?

Posted by Patrick | July 11, 2009 3:28 PM

these people are just bitches. they don't mean half the things they say and most of them don't even go to the shows they comment about

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2009 3:48 PM

I like the scene of good music and cool shows. This show is obviously the opposite of that.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2009 6:58 PM

fuck theres a barrier at this place? ugh.

Posted by cassie | July 12, 2009 11:07 PM

I went with my 15-year old son and his friend. Missed the opener and was not impressed by Flosstradamus (I like DJs in a dance club, but not so much for a concert). Really like the Matt and Kim album, but unfortunately, the sound quality may have been the worst I've heard in my 35 years of attending concerts (started when I was 12 and have probably seen over 1000 concerts since then). We were in the middle of the pack and it seemed like everything above about 5000 Hz simply wasn't being projected most of the time - not sure if it was the mix or the equipment or both, but it made for horrible sound. And we moved around some, so it wasn't just one location. Need to see them again, just to find out if I'd like their live show with good sound.

Posted by ru848789 | July 12, 2009 11:08 PM

1st show where I ever left early just because of the crowd. Most annoying audience ever.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 9:51 AM

"Who's Duffman? Dustin Hoffman's alter ego or something?"

If you're serious and not attempting a witty remark (and failing miserably), you are worthless.
