What are their outfits made of?
Os Mutantes

Founding frontman Sergio Dias Baptista and his new incarnation of the near-mythical Os Mutantes have signed with ANTI- Records with plans to release Haih - their first record in 35 years - on September 8th.

2006 saw a reunion of sorts, with the band playing a handful of shows in London, New York, the Pitchfork Festival in Chicago, San Francisco and supporting the Flaming Lips at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, but it is the release of Haih in September that will mark the band's first recorded material since 1974 and their very first album to receive a worldwide release. Conceived by Sergio Dias with collaborations with other Brazilian legends Tom Ze (lyrics) and Jorge Ben (who wrote the song "Minha Menina"), Haih is a vibrant and timely return from one of world music's most important bands.

Check out a "Teclar," a track from the forthcoming release, above. Anti Records is also now home to Alec Ounsworth and Kyp Malone.

Os Mutantes are accompanying their new record with a series of upcoming tour dates. Those include a show at NYC's Webster Hall on Thursday, October 8th. Tickets are on sale now (at noon).

What happened to the first two comments that said "Thanks for this."?

Why can't the get Rita Lee back in the lineup? Her replacement is great, but it's just not the same. I want to hear "Baby" with Rita singing it!

The last NYC show was good. Nothing spectacular, but good.

sorry folks Sergio Dias Baptista + 10 backup people born after 1970 does not equal "Os Mutantes"

Yes, he is using the original drummer.....but c'mon

305 - He is on Lakua Bop...a Wikipedia Search informs me that

"ZE Records (originally always written with two capital letters) was a New York-based record label, started in 1978 by Michael Zilkha and Michel Esteban."

But I might be answering a question you already knew the answere to. I need a life.

I thought the Pitchfork show in '06 was rather great...the songs sounded terrific in spite of it not being all the original members. It still captured the spirit of the music very well.

Rita would never join Os Mutantes. It's the band that destroyed her life, as did with Arnaldo's life.
As a huge fan, I'm afraid of this new album but curious.

There's a really goo documentary going on about Arnaldo's life this Thursday in Tribeca Theaters, I saw it two days ago and reccomend it.

the new band is great, It is like Sergio Dias said, this band represents a new mutation of Os Mutantes.
Their clothes are made of feathers to look like a crow (like the cover of the cd).
Critics in Europe have said that the song baby with Bia Mendes as the new vocalist outshines both Zelia and Rita Lee.
And I cannot wait to hear their new CD and see what they have in store for us with their new setup!
