Doolittle

Alt-rock kingpins the Pixies will make their live return to the U.S. this fall!

Frontman Frank Black tells SPIN.com that the Boston-born quartet will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their groundbreaking release, Doolittle, by playing the album in its entirety in Oakland, Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Boston, Washington DC, New York City, and "maybe Montreal" this fall.

"I believe we're doing the Wang Center in Boston," he says of his hometown gig at the 3,600-capacity venue.

Exact dates have yet to be confirmed. The U.S. tour is expected to follow a run of Doolittle shows in Europe scheduled for October.

The gigs will coincide with the release of the Pixies' ambitious Minotaur box set, which will arrive in October on 4AD Records (order yours now via Artist in Residence).

In the meantime there are plenty of side projects to keep us busy including two NYC-area Grand Duchy shows this week, one of which will take place in Coney Island at 5:00pm on Saturday (7/18).

It was also just announced that the Pixies will play the Ontario Virgin Festival on August 29th. The full lineup of that two day festival also includes Grizzly Bear, Sloan, The Rural Alberta Advantage, Pet Shop Boys, Plants and Animals, and one of Nine Inch Nails' final performances. The 2004 reunion shows were OK at best. Mission of Burma blew them away during one of the shows.

I saw them in 2004 in Philly. They sounded great really, it was just a drag to stand in a big arena with thousands of people.

"Love the Pixies. Love Doolittle. But they gotta start coming up with some new songs."

6 nights at Hammerstein!

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2009 12:32 PM

how much money do they each have now from all their reunion shows? and its getting ridiculous that they can't be bothered with new songs.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2009 12:40 PM

It's Deal. She wants nothing to do with it besides touring for big $.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2009 12:51 PM

they deserve every dollar they make. You don't want Dave to go back to working the puppet show circuit again do ya?

arena.thousands of people.drag.your life must be sad.i will pray for it to improve. my first pixies show was at giants stadium in 89 when they opened for the cure.i love every second of it.maybe it was because i was 15 and not yet beaten down by life and jaded like you good sir.

The hammerstien shows were good but I saw them 2 other times at Coney Island and Joan's Beach and each of those shows were better. The prospect of seeing Dolittle live excites me a great deal!!

12:51 is right on. Frank Black gave her a demo tape of stuff he might want to record with Pixies and she was all "MEH"... judging by his solo stuff it was probably pretty good. Love Deal but she should get with the program here.

hahahhahaha a great DEAL

They will suck because they are not playing new songs.

(Logic).

the first reunion was cool but now isn't like those oldies shows on pbs.

I grew up in Boston and saw the Pixies more times than I could keep track of. Went and saw their reunion show at Jones Beach in '04 and was bored to tears. They still beat the pants off of most newer bands, (which is a pretty low bar to pass), but they're obviously just in it for the money these days. I keep waiting for them to announce a month-long residency in Las Vegas.

The problem with the Pixies is the Breeders.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2009 3:26 PM

i heard the reunion in '04 was decent. they are probably touring just for the big bucks. fuck new material.
