DOWNLOAD: Super Furry Animals - Inaugural Trams (MP3)

Super Furry Animals @ Maxwells 1/23/08 (more by Leia Jospe)
Super Furry Animals

Super Furry Animals have been added to the lineup of the Flaming Lips-curated ATP NY weekend happening September 11th-13th. Portland's Grouper has also been added to the fest (thx Brad).

ATP NY runs from Sept 11-13. SFA must be playing on the 13th, which is the Flaming Lips day, because the band is playing a show at the Highline Ballroom on September 11th and one at Maxwell's on the 12th. Tickets for both go on sale Friday, July 10th at noon.

The group's last record, Dark Days/Light Years, came out in April on Rough Trade. Check out a song from that, above.

Grouper's ATP date "isn't confirmed yet", but I wouldn't be surprised if it was September 12th which is the date their recent-tourmates Animal Collective are playing.

The Drones are another band (of several) who've recently added NYC gigs around their ATP NY date.

ATP NY this year is sooooooo much worse than last year. I wonder if they're having a hard time selling tickets?

While nothing will compare to seeing MBV for the 1st time in 16 years, as a whole this years lineup thus far is much more intriguing specifically the Lips curated day...not so into SFA though...I believe Kutshers in sold out, too.

kutshers is totally sold out already without most of sunday being announced. sounds like there will be a bunch of announcements this week though.

this week's forcast calls for extreme haters and lots of fun for those that actually go.

I went last year and it was amazing. However, compare this year's lineup to last year's and then to all the amazing artists they have booked for their UK festival this year and you will see ATP NY this year just doesn't measure up at all. The very best ATP lineup in the US was the very first one at UCLA in '02 that Sonic Youth curated. There has been a steady, although not precipitous decline, every year since.

i've compared both lineups, and from my point of view, this year is more interesting. for starters, i counted the number of bands i was looking forward to last year, and it's the same already this year, around 10. and they haven't announced half of sunday yet. also, the list of bands i was looking forward to last year included about eight that i had seen multiple times prior. this year, that number is lower. jesus lizard plus melvins kicks the shit out of any two bands you could list from last year, even if you named mogwai and shellac.

also, mbv was terrible. at least the lips will entertain, instead of standing motionless while strumming over loveless on CD. and since my expectations are lower for the lips, it can't possibly disappoint to the extent that my bloody vagina did last year.

guys! 3:45 has compared these line-ups and decided our taste for us! hooray!

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2009 3:49 PM

jesus lizard, feelies, and dirty three on friday night and you guys are complaining?

jeez.

SFA is awesome btw.

i am a big SFA record but not too impressed w/ their last two records...maybe they can play Friday instead, and lay _Mwng_ or _Radiator_ on us.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2009 4:50 PM

er...should have typed 'fan' rather than 'record'

Posted by the same idiot as above | July 8, 2009 4:51 PM

if the plan is to be believed, they are going to do something new/special/original on sunday...

Grouper has the ATP date on their myspace page so they're confirmed.

I think Grouper is saying they are playing ATP but they don't know whether it's Sat. or Sun.

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2009 8:16 AM

Whats grouper

Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2009 3:02 PM

Grouper is Liz Harris, one of the most important musicians in the country right now.

Wheeeeee!!!!! not going to ATP, but just psyched that SFA are doing a couple of NYC shows around this. Anyone know if a US tour will happen? One the best, most underrated, amazing bands of the last 20 years.

SFA OK!!!!!
