"Future of the Left, though I've seen them 1,000 times, were a REVELATION tonight, and a finer bunch of gents to hang out with? Hard 2 find." - Ted Leo

Future of the Left @ Spike Hill - twitpic by Ted Leo
Future of the Left

The above review and picture are by Ted Leo who was at his former tour-mates' secret show Sunday night at Spike Hill in Brooklyn. The show they played together at Webster Hall was FOTL's first NYC show. The show at Spike Hill was their first in Brooklyn, and an unofficial afterparty for the Pool Party at Williamsburg Waterfront. Tonight (7/13) you can catch FOTL in Jersey (Maxwell's), and then there's Siren and other places... Videos below...

Recorded at the Box, Crewe - June 6th 2009.

This show was great. Small venue, loud music, trash talking ("You're dancing around like this is a red hot chili peppers concert") free posters, two free 7" (The Hope That House Built, Small Bones Small Bodies). It was a better experience than the aforementioned NYC one.

So thank you very much for the heads up on this.

i'm very sad i only got one free 7". yes, they are the real deal. what kind of fucking question is that?

i think they pale in comparison to mclusky. ive tried to get into them but i just cant.

any of you catch mclusky when they played luxx a few years back? i just remember my friend was doused with beer from some crew of lesbians in the crowd. the show was pretty empty.

That was seven years ago. Judging by the maturity level of most of the commenters here I think they were still in diapers when that show went down. McLusky are legendary, we didn't know how good we had it.

They stand on their own. The new CD is definitely one of the best things I've heard all year. I am PSYCHED to see them at Maxwell's tonight. I was a huge McLusky fan, and this new shit is right up there with 'McLusky Do Dallas’. And I think it was Clint who gave them a shout out yesterday.

Shittier version of McClusky... Show 7 years ago at Luxx... Indie Cred... Aging hipster bullshit... blah blah blah. The fact remains that Future of the Left absolutely destroyed last night and were unbelievably tight, loud, and appropriately abrasive. The "Well aren't you a bunch of freaky little bitches" comment was incredible( even though it unfortunately curbed the mosh pit that was forming up front), and the bassist coming out into the crowd to create an unbelievably melodic/ sexual finish( he more or less planted his face directly into the breasts of the girl in front of me as he was riffing, and was humping his keyboard earlier) was like a revelation of shorts( granted I was dehydrated from the earlier Pool Party), but all around an incredible show.

to say that mclusky was better than future of the left, while i may disagree when all is said and done (fotl is young yet as an entity), isn't really saying much..
