Last week in dance was not my favorite. I enjoyed Losoul’s set at Sunday Best, and the urban landscape “Afterparty” at Warm Up at PS1 (though not the music so much) . More about both of those in Part 2 of the Week In Dance. For now, here’s what’s happening Thursday & Friday:

Thursday (7/9):

Tonight We Ride is a party put together by Meanred, happening at Santos. New York’s heavy bass champion Drop the Lime will be deejaying as well as Designer Drugs, Kassiano, and the latest Mad Decent signee, Maluca (who shares the cover of this month’s issue of the Fader with Diplo & co. btw):

Saturday there is a huge event – the Essential Music and Art show, happening in SoHo (which I will explain more about in Part 2 of the Week In Dance), but in the meantime the pre-party is happening Thursday (7/9) at Bar 13:

DANCE

What excites me most about this line-up is Ark. He is the dj/producer responsible for the booty-praising track “Sucubz” aka “Le Magicien D’os”, considered a pioneer of French experimental/minimal house, and has a great history of collaborations with everyone from Losoul to Matthew Herbert to Mr. Oizo, not mention…

His live sets always include stupendous and now famous surprises. The public of the Pulp in Paris won’t forget anytime soon his incredible energy-fuelled mixes from reggae to hardcore with Mr. Oizo , Feadz or Herbert…When he plays, his hair gets moving all around, his body becomes mad with the beat, he becomes the most beautiful man in the world… and the most unforeseeable…… caliente !!!!

Also on Thursday (7/9):
DJ Spinna deejays downstairs at Santos.
False Aristocracy‘s Ether party happens weekly at Happy Ending.
Flosstradamus at Pier 54

Moving on to Friday (7/10):

Over at Webster Hall, Classixx (who played a great little set in the Studio at Webster back in March) and Acid Girls are deejaying the Kitsune & Cobrasnake release party. This makes perfect sense as both duos recently released tracks on the label and the Cobrasnake directed the video for Classixx’s track “I’ll Get You” (feat. Jeppe from Junior Senior). Check out the video below along with party info:

Despite Studio B being on its way out, the parties rage on over these last few days. On Friday the Flashing Lights crew (Ayres, Nick Catchdubs, and Jubilee) returns for one last hurrah at the the Greenpoint spot, with special guests Flosstradamus (who played a really fun mix of 90’s pop &current dance tracks when I saw them open for Chromeo a couple of years ago) :
