the week in Dance w/ Showtrotta (part 1)
DOWNLOAD: Alex From Tokyo - Live From the Lower East Side mix (January 2009) (MP3)
Tokyo Black Star

I've hit a bit of a going out lull and don't have much to report about last week...except for Kyle Hall destroying the BKLYN Yard on Sunday. More about that when we get to what's happening this Sunday. In the meantime, here's where you can get down on Thursday & Friday (7/16 & 7/17):
Thursday (7/16):
Alex from Tokyo (one half of Tokyo Black Star) has been in town, deejaying here and there over the past month. If you haven't already checked him out I strongly urge you to do so. His sets are perfect blends of house, disco, and techno. He's deejaying Treehouse (# 003), one of the many great parties mentioned in the NY Times' Dance Floors for People With Day Jobs. Download his "Live From the Lower East Side" mix at the top of this post. Details on the party below:

Also on Thursday (7/16):
- DJ Spinna deejays downstairs at Santos.

- Heat at Hugs with VDRK and Terror Dactel.
- False Aristocracy's Ether party happens weekly at Happy Ending.
- Less with Kate Simko at Bar 13
Moving on to Friday (7/1):
There is another solid line-up at Boys & Girls at Webster Hall. LA Riots have been on top of their remix game ever since all this "electro" came about. They are joined by Brooklyn's own
Nick Catchdubs, and Wolfgang Gartner - a 26 year-old who has been producing dance music since he was 11, and recently began focusing on his new sound after years of producing house tracks under a few different monikers.

$1 Drinks & $1 Admission Before 12.00 w/ RSVP and we have 1 pair of tickets to give away! TO WIN A PAIR OF TICKETS TO SEE LA RIOTS, WOLFGANG GARTNER, AND NICK CATCHDUBS AT WEBSTER HALL ON FRIDAY (7/10) email BVCONTESTS@HOTMAIL.COM (subject: LA RIOTS). Include your first and last name. 1 winner will be chosen at random and contacted.
Alexander Technique, the man behind NY dj crew and now, record label, DJ's Are Not Rockstars, is deejaying at Ruff Club at the Annex:

Also on Friday (7/10):
- Dub War is happening at Love.
- Turntable Lab is at APT.
- Turntables on the Hudson is happening every Friday at Water Taxi Beach.
- Capture the Flag afterparty at Exit in Greenpoint.
- Senari is at Le Poisson Rouge.
Check back for part 2 of the Week In Dance for info on what's headed our way this weekend, into next week!
