Jelly site now says Crystal Antlers, not White Denim for next week. That's one strange line-up.

On JellyNYC site, it says Williamsburg is the hippest neighborhood in the country (http://thepoolparties.com/?page_id=2). I'm visiting from Nebraska....what/who should I be expecting at this show???
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 12:55 PM
Mission of Burma are at 6:30, not 6.

the stage looks pretty wimpy at the pool parties.

We are going to be a generation of geriatrics with green arms.
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 2:12 PM
Actually, Island's Eyelids played laaast night at the Eye and Ear fest at 92Ytribeca, so not on the bill tonight at DBA. Please still go and enjoy Drunkdriver and all the others though!
Posted by I E | July 12, 2009 2:32 PM
eye ear thing was a lot of fun
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 2:41 PM
love as laughter is playing a free show about 1.5 blocks away from the pool party after mission of burman is done. they are awesome if you've never seen them. the show is at music hall of williamsburg.
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 3:43 PM
You alleged non-hipsters, I'm appalled that none of you have trashed Williamsburg yet in response to the Nebraskan's (12:55) question.

^
that's because it's obviously a bullshit baiting comment designed to elicit "fuck the midwest" commentary, captain clueless.
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 6:00 PM
woulda been way cooler if the Priest played the Waterfront today
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 6:44 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 8:30 PM
why doesnt love as laughter keep a mailing list steady- i get random emails and not so often- would have went. their Holy record is one of the best of last year-both musically and cover art. grossly unoticed
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 8:32 PM
hey pool party organizers -- do us a goddamn favor and put some sort of a tarp on the back of the stage so we can actually see the damn bands as the sun goes down?
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 8:40 PM
all that preparation and they didnt realize that the sun would set behind the stage right as the headliners play. genius.

I saw a mention somewhere on the Web (I didn't feel like clicking on the link) that one of the members of Gwar is now a correspondent for Fox News.
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 9:29 PM
hey pool party organizers -- do us a goddamn favor and don't put a tarp on the back of the stage because the view's fucking gorgeous?
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 9:30 PM
why does the stage set say "pool parties"?
pool = over. closed. gone.
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 9:38 PM
"hey pool party organizers -- do us a goddamn favor and don't put a tarp on the back of the stage because the view's fucking gorgeous?"
then move ten feet to the right and stare at it yourself. not everything is a fucking photo op. it was impossible to watch the second half of mission of burma's set. everyone had their hands over their faces.
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 9:44 PM
I did not have my hand over my face and I was around 10 rows back in front of Roger Miller. Fine view and decent sound for outdoors.
I did wear darkened glasses that help protect my eyes from the sun. Check them out.
Great show.
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 10:21 PM
hey jelly -- if the $6 bud lights aren't enough of a way to gouge fans, how about $20 sun glasses next weekend? aim for the neon plastic frames the hipsters still seem to be digging. you'll wanna build a warchest in time for those new condo openings, when those landlords put a stop the waterfront shows...
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 10:38 PM
That's actually $7 bud lights if you include the tips they want to hand you a beer. They were even asking for tips on $2 water bottles!!
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 10:56 PM
MoB setlist anyone?
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 10:57 PM
I have been to many outdoors shows and I never had to wear sunglasses. Other than that, the show was pretty organized. Quite surprising since we are talking about JellyNYC who are clueless. The beer area (mandatory since it's a state park) wasn't so bad.
Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2009 11:10 PM
Marty Markowitz introducing MoB. Pretty hilarious, especially at the end when Bob Weston starts remixing him. Sorry for the shakiness. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXg8LbzKiAU
Posted by Jason | July 12, 2009 11:12 PM
MoB sucks! Fucked Up saved the night.
Posted by RBK | July 12, 2009 11:45 PM
Marty Markowitz was lucky to get out of there without being tarred and feathered, considering it was his fail that got McCarren Pool closed in the first place.

thanks! more and more "2Wice" seems like one of their all-time 3 or 4 best songs.
damn, "That's How I Escaped My Certain Fate"...
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 12:00 AM
"I have been to many outdoors shows and I never had to wear sunglasses."
OMG IT'S GOV. PATERSON!
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 12:10 AM
"thanks! more and more "2Wice" seems like one of their all-time 3 or 4 best songs."
Love the intro to that song. So many great songs off that album, it easily competes with their original work. My fave is Nancy Reagan's Head.
The setlist was mainly new songs plus a few off of Obliterati.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 12:10 AM
lol @ jemina pearl's guitarist not knowing how to tune his guitar.
it would have been very "punk" were this 1970 and were they not a bunch of spoiled rich brats who only got the gig cos of industry connex.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 12:21 AM
i was right up front by Clint and when the sun came under the top of the stage overhang it was fairly impossible to look at the stage for more than a minute. and I was wearing sunglasses.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 12:36 AM
honestly, jellynyc does not know what the FUCK they are doing. it is unacceptable to go to a show and not be able to LOOK at the bands playing, the fucking (obviously) fundamental thing when seeing a band play. i know the nyc skyline is there, but we have to sacrifice watching music?
they have to change something for next week, i don't want to bring a stupid hat/visor or wear sunglasses.
rotate the stage 90 degrees
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 12:51 AM
"i know the nyc skyline is there, but we have to sacrifice watching music?"
last time i checkt music is heard not watched
Posted by fore i's | July 13, 2009 1:02 AM
^^ That's the dumbest thing I've heard - oh sorry - "read" - in a long time. Live music is both seen and heard, and everyone knows it, yourself included. Stop being such a pedantic prick.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 1:37 AM
^^^^^^ im just saying that seeing a rock band do rock band type of things is not necassarily as valuable as feeling/hearing the experience of live music, and especially if your outdoors, checking out the sky/grass/water/bridge/skyline/anything besides the band. whatever. comments section - worthless. bye
Posted by fore i's | July 13, 2009 1:51 AM
O.k. - bye!
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 1:53 AM
ok, but if you are actively shielding your eyes from the sun, its kinda hard to enjoy yourself with all those other things.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 1:54 AM
Wow, so jelly are incompetent because you don't want to wear sunglasses on a sunny summer day. Amazing.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 2:29 AM
my eyes are still killing me from the sun. this sucks. again, way to go, jelly.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 2:30 AM
How about those of us who have lived in the neighborhood since the '90s, have kids now, and still groove with the scene?
The 21+ drinking area is ridiculous. U can't bring kids in there, so if you have kids, you can't have a beer?
Kids or not, what's with the idea of not being able to stand in front of the stage with a drink in your hand?
Since when did Jelly start taking advice from All Points West?
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 3:06 AM
BEER CONCENTRATION CAMP!!!
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 3:07 AM
grammatically & tone-wise, all of the dozen or so comments complaining about the sun sound like they're from the same person.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 6:03 AM
Sun was not nearly as big a deal (it's the sun - what the fuck are you really gonna do?) as the sequestered beer-drinking area.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 8:18 AM
Sequestered beer area does suck, but I think it's because the show is in a state park.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 9:01 AM
I found it funny that there was one booth/table with water and 100 with beer. ok, 10 with beer. only 10?? all of them selling Bud Light, LOL!!!
Also I'm gonna guess people complaining about the sun are some the photographers, lol jokes on you haha. why didnt you fools get a better camera angle like maybe get to the side of the stage, or behind the band? but no they just had to keep on shooting from the pit directly into the sun? I hope you didnt break your 1000 dollar equipment!
btw- un.art.ig was taping all of Mission of Burma, lets see what he thinks of the sun...
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 9:02 AM
"all of them selling Bud Light, LOL!!!"
Wrong. How old are you Anon 9:02? They had Lagunitas IPA, Hoegaarden, and Magic Hat No. 9.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 9:43 AM
why should people HAVE to wear sunglasses? what if you wear a prescription? it's the responsibility of the show organizers to make sure people can SEE THE PERFORMERS.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 9:46 AM
"Sequestered beer area does suck, but I think it's because the show is in a state park."
That's true, and it's the same reason with All Points West.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 9:48 AM
marty markowitz was the highlight of the show. the heckling he received up front was relatively gentle, but hilarious nonetheless.
-"they wanted to turn this into a truck depot."
-"FUCK THEM!"
-"the first band, f*ed up, i can't say their real name.."
-"FUGET ABOUT IT!"
leave it to bv commeneters to complain about the sun. holy shit.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 9:48 AM
how was security getting in there? can you sneak a flask?
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 9:48 AM
security was super cool. they let people stage dive and shit. prob. best security of any event in recent memory. scotandyard was the name of them.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 9:55 AM
"why should people HAVE to wear sunglasses? what if you wear a prescription?"
New technology allows prescriptions to be put in sunglasses.
Its pretty amazing the level of complaints here...
*Why does the sun exist?
*Why did they only have Bud Light when, in fact, they didn't only have Bud Light?
Good bands, chill security, and a FREE show and still the haters gotta hate.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 9:58 AM
I wasn't a complaint about Bud Light, just found it funny. as far as getting a flask in it would have been super easy, dude.
btw- sound was amazing, pristine vocals.
Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2009 10:03 AM
How DARE the organizers of this event not hand out free suntan lotion to everyone who attended!!! I mean, COME ON NOW! Are we supposed to provide our own suntan lotion for an outdoor event??? pshaw!
