2nd Dan Deacon, Deerhunter, No Age show added (TONIGHT)

2 shows tonight @ Brooklyn Bowl, 1 last night in Medord NJ...

Dan Deacon in Medford, NJ - Aug 1, 2009
Dan Deacon

Dan Deacon, Deerhunter, and No Age were supposed to play a 'round robin' show in the giant space that is the Williamsburg Waterfront today. Due to rain, that 'Pool Party' got moved to Brooklyn Bowl which only holds around 600 people. That meant a lot of people were going to get shut out, so they awesomely added a 2nd show (also ALL AGES).

The late shows starts at 10pm. Everyone from the 6pm early show will leave, and then they'll start letting people in for the late show. Those who are on line for the early show, but don't make it in, will get wristbands that guarantees them a spot for the late show.

Videos from last night's rain-free pool party in NJ below...

this is one of the most entertaining BV days in a while

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 4:56 PM

I feel like a little kid waiting to hear about school closings on a snow day.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 4:57 PM

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 4:57 PM

hopefully it rains again and washes out that shitty show no mercy show

Yes yes yes yes yes

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 4:59 PM

is the late show 21+ over? because if it is i'd rather go to that one.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:01 PM

omg this is ridiculous yet hilarious. fuck you jelly.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:02 PM

Absolutely, positively the worst and most stupid way to handle this. Anyone looked outside lately? HELLO BEAUTIFUL DAY.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:04 PM

They just ran out of late-show wristbands. Rumor has it there will be a third, extra-late show beginning at 2 a.m.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:04 PM

Dan Deacon agreed to the second show after he was offered two Whoppers with Cheese. Bradford Cox of Deerhunter is still not eating anything though.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:06 PM

To all my friends that ventured out into this shitshow: you are idiots

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:06 PM

How are you getting these updates brooklynvegan?

the twitter is not saying anything.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:08 PM

I'll be at the 5th show starting at 6am.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:10 PM

so the second show is all ages or 21+?

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:12 PM

"They just ran out of late-show wristbands. Rumor has it there will be a third, extra-late show beginning at 2 a.m. "

shut up

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:16 PM

"so the second show is all ages or 21+?"

Just found out. ALL AGES. Both shows.

Posted by brooklynvegan | August 2, 2009 5:17 PM

Wow it's really sunny out. I think I might just gorget this poo and just ride my bike.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:17 PM

due to problems concerning the lights for kanye's revised 6am slot at all points west, his set has been moved to brooklyn bowl and will headline the fifth show of the evening, around 5am.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:21 PM

5:21- A+

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:21 PM

A+++++ would read again.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:24 PM

Wait, so KANYE goes on at 5am? Or the show STARTS at 5am? Because that'll set Kanye to start at around 9am if that's the case. Please advise.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:25 PM

Fuck Jelly? Why? What were they supposed to do? I know this is a huge pain in the ass for everyone, but Jelly and the bands could very easily have just bailed on the whole thing once the parks department shut the show down. Instead they're playing TWO shows! For free! That seems pretty reasonable to me. You people are the biggest bunch of whiners.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:33 PM

I liked Dan Deacon a lot better when he was called Atom and his Package.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:36 PM

I liked Dan Deacon a lot better when--wait a minute, I never liked Dan Deacon.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:39 PM

what time is Daft Punk on?

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:40 PM

To 5:19 BrooklynVegan IS Twitter, Facebook, Myspace.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:42 PM

What time does Daft Punk go on?

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:42 PM

way to be on top of current events BV. already wristbanded.. went home to greenpoint for dry clothes.. riding my bike back over :)

can i stay for both?!

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:45 PM

What was Jelly supposed to do? HAVE THE FUCKING SHOW SINCE IT STOPPED RAINING AT 2:30! LOOK AT THE FUCKING RADAR. IT WAS NOT HARD.

Somebody's getting paid... that's all I know.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:46 PM

everyone has to leave after the first show, so no

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:46 PM

they should have just waited it out and skipped those opening acts or whatever the fuck they were. if it was still at the waterfront the round robin would have started at 5, which was when the rain stopped and sun came out.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:47 PM

it is actually the park department's decision, not jelly's... and they canceled the outdoor show because the forecast says thunderstorms later. very cool they made up for the ridiculousness by adding the 2nd show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:48 PM

"Somebody's getting paid... that's all I know."

You must be a smart one.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:49 PM

these shows will slay in the bowling alley. Not sure why anyone would be disappointed by this

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:50 PM

All I know is that I'm not getting paid.

That's literally all that I know about this situation. I'm probably not alone.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:51 PM

"can i stay for both?!" 5:45pm = greedy

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:53 PM

Are the bands getting paid twice?

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 5:57 PM

they should

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 6:07 PM

i'd imagine these bands generally don't get more than a dinner stipend. maybe they'll get hooked up with a few hours of bowling.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 6:08 PM

Maybe they'll get extra drink tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 6:10 PM

"Dan Deacon agreed to the second show after he was offered two Whoppers with Cheese. Bradford Cox of Deerhunter is still not eating anything though."

Fuck you you piece of shit. Brad is a friend of mine and has Marfans' Syndrome, same thing Joey Ramone had, which means he could eat 4 whoppers a day and he'd still look the same. It's 2009, you're on the BV site and are still judging people by how they look? srsly? REALLY? I bet he's twice as healthy as you are and no one thinks you're funny.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 6:22 PM

Vivian Girls.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 6:22 PM

Is 2009 the year where people stop judging others by how they look?

Fuck, nobody told me anything!

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 6:24 PM

i'll take any bet on someone with marfan's being healthier than me.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 6:31 PM

Is the 10:00 a Marfans only show ?

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 7:00 PM

i love deerhunter, i love bradford's music and his persona, but come on, a little marfran's joke isn't the end of the world. it's 2009, lighten the fuck up.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 7:16 PM

marfans are brooklyn vegans
and bradford cocks is our mascot

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 7:16 PM

"Dan Deacon agreed to the second show after he was offered two Whoppers with Cheese. Bradford Cox of Deerhunter is still not eating anything though."

Fuck you you piece of shit. Danny is a friend of mine and has an eating syndrome, same thing Chris Farley had, which means he could eat 4 whoppers a day and he'd still look the same. It's 2009, you're on the BV site and are still judging people by how they look? srsly? REALLY? I bet he's half as healthy as you are and no one thinks you're funny.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 7:28 PM

A++++++++++++++

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 7:33 PM

lol how is the line
if i got now can i get into 10 pm

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 7:33 PM

"Somebody's getting paid... that's all I know."

Pretty much...

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 7:44 PM

Line is a mess

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 7:58 PM

this is bv at it's finest...very funny.
deerhunter suck. you probably dig animal collective too (they blow).
unless you are blind, we all judge people by how they look whether it's realized or subconsciously.

How much weed should I put inside Brooklyn Bowl?

Posted by Regular reader | August 2, 2009 8:19 PM

It didn't rain a single drop in Brooklyn after 3 PM. It would've been cool if they could've just waited it out for like an hour.

Seriously, almost every Pool Party last summer would've been canceled under today's conditions.
Last summer, I would get to Brooklyn, and it would be pouring, and then it would stop, and by the time the headliner was on, it would be f'ing gorgeous and sunny.
This happened during Hold Steady, and the Breeders.

After I saw the line at the bowl, I just walked to the Brooklyn Brewery and drank.

@Anon5:08 - Just a reminder that BV is one of the most influential indie music blogs in the metro NYC area. I'm sure JellyNYC contacted him with constant updates so that he posts them because they know the word will spread that way.

Posted by blackhat | August 2, 2009 9:20 PM

Williamsburg Waterfront was supposedly flooded according to Bradford Cox, so rain wouldn't have mattered.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 10:02 PM

Awesome show. They talked about aftershow parties at Silent Barn, Death by Audio and Shea Stadium. Anyone know exactly what's going on at those venues?

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 10:21 PM

This was one of the most awesome and fun shows i've been to in awhile.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 10:28 PM

Brooklyn brewery is closed Sundays.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 10:30 PM

Someone called DJ Dog Dick playing at Shea Stadium. That doesn't sound too promising.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 10:38 PM

how many people on the line actually made it in?

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 11:00 PM

stop your blood klaht cryin. jelly and the bands are clearly looking out for the kids.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 11:07 PM

"stop your blood klaht cryin."

Are you slappin' da bass, mon?

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2009 11:54 PM

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 1:03 AM

interesting. I came because ive never been to this spot b4. Deacon was good, good hearted music. Decent crowd. Everyone got in.

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 1:09 AM

show of the year yo. everyone killed it

Posted by doop | August 3, 2009 1:30 AM

Smoke de herb, Read de book

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 2:11 AM

I saw the second show. The concept was really special and all the bands seemed to want to "jam" on other band's songs whenever they got the chance. Mostly it worked...and when it didn't, no one gave a fuck because it was the spirit of the event that counted. I'm going to be tired as Hell tomorrow at work...and it was totally worth it! Great job...special night!

p.s. Even that Ed guy opener with nothing but a floor tom and a mic had me with that one "Transvestite" singalong song. It was like some true post-punk shit from the 80s!

Posted by blackhat | August 3, 2009 2:35 AM

walked into the second show during the opener, no line whatsoever. everyone killed it so hard.

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 2:44 AM

the first show was fucking incredible. maybe it was just having to wait around for a few hours, but jesus christ was that a high point of the summer.

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 2:48 AM

Got in around 11:30 for the second show. No line, just walked in. Not too crowded also, but nicely filled. such good.

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 2:51 AM

trust funders throwing shows for trust funders at a "bowling alley" for trust funders, who cares?

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 3:37 AM

You so obama!

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 4:31 AM

Brooklyn Brewery was open yesterday, despite what their website may say. They were open from noon til 6.

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 6:40 AM

Late show had an incredible crowd, round-robin itself was great but not amazing, one of the best shows I've ever been to.

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 8:14 AM

anyone knows the setlist?

Posted by anon | August 3, 2009 9:08 AM

ED SCHRADER!!! the highlight of the night for me

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 10:21 AM

this round robin thing was a great idea. perfect. the second show was "a weird fucking show" in the words of dan deacon himself, but it was really great of jelly and all of the bands to play a second. i didn't even expect them to play the 7 o'clock one, since the entire thing was free and no one was really owed anything. really really cool. kudos

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 10:29 AM

started waiting at 6 - got a wristband for the second show at 8:30 - left tired & sweaty at 2. good, fun show, but mostly i'm commenting to say thanks to BV for the reliable updates, and screw you to the impy commenters posting misinformation just for a laugh or to scare people away from trying to get in.

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 10:48 AM

Pretty much anyone and everyone who wanted to get into the second show got in.

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 2:45 PM

Holy mother of god those opening acts were horrible.

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 3:06 PM

Highlights of the afternoon:

- Trust fund kids looking all stressed in the rain
- Cops busting guys with "open containers" then telling them "the ticket will get thrown out no problem don't worry"
- Waiting on line for like 4 hours and meeting some totally awesome people
- ED SCHRADER
- One of the guys from Cerebral Ballzy doing a stage dive with 10+ feet of hangtime during Eraser

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 4:58 PM

I wish I had a trust fund! That show was hard to produce, dudes.
