Animal Collective @ Sonar 2009 (more by Zach Dilgard)
Animal Collective

Despite what a few anonymous troublemakers tried to get people to believe, Noah 'Panda Bear' Lennox is still in Animal Collective (he just isn't playing his solo set the same day as them at ATP).

Animal Collective play their first of two shows at the Prospect Park Bandshell tonight (8/14). They play their second on Saturday.

  • Friday (8/14) - Animal Collective (8:15) w/ Black Dice (7:00) & Dam Funk (DJ between sets) (TICKETS AVAILABLE)
  • Saturday (8/15) - Animal Collective (8:15) w/ (no opener?) & Dam Funk (DJ between sets) (TICKETS AVAILABLE)
Afterparties are happening both nights at The Bell House.
  • Friday (8/14) - Bring your Animal Collective ticket stub to the Bell House and enter the Dungen/Woods show for $10 instead of $15.
  • Saturday (8/15) - 10:30pm / $5 or FREE w/ your Animal Collective Ticket Stub
Celebrate Brooklyn & The Bell House Present
THE OFFICIAL ANIMAL COLLECTIVE AFTER PARTY!
The party doesn't stop after the show at Prospect Park - come dance & hang out with the Animal Collective Round Robin DJ Crew & special guest DJ Andy Beta at The Bell House!
I don't know who the AC Round Robin DJ crew are, but that's a nice segue into this show happening at Santos Party House on Monday....

"Went back on sale."

Totally sold out just now but they went back on sale because Panda Bear will NOT be playing so tickets are being put back up every half hour for half-price except you have to promise to show up at ATP on Friday to find out that Panda Bear will be back playing on Saturday together with Animal Collective but their set is being moved to Sunday so Panda Bear is not playing but yeah, tickets are back on sale.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 3:38 PM

Hey BROS, what's with all these fake rumors?

Posted by Panda Bear | August 14, 2009 3:44 PM

Tickets for tonight's show had been avaialble all along on TMaster - despite Bowery Presents claiming it was "sold out".

Take a breath. Ever heard of punctuation?

Posted by Donna | August 14, 2009 4:02 PM

Donna, honey, if you were the the embodiment of punctuation or something, you'd surely be a period.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 4:12 PM

ewwww girls get periods.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 4:18 PM

oh man wish i could be there for this one

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 5:17 PM

let's get meta - from zomby's twitter:

ZombyLDN I'm in Oslo in hospital with gastro entiritis trying to make them let me fly to NYC tomorrow but it's not looking good,I'm very very ill.

ZombyLDN LOL at the forums speculating on my movements. I love animal collective why would I just not fly to NYC to play a show with them.

ZombyLDN I actually got took off the flight from Oslo to NYC as I was looking like death & 9 hrs on a plane Isnt possible with a stomach infection

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 5:18 PM

ZombyLDN I'm very unwell if I can't get the doc to let me leave to fly to NYC I'm sorry and dissapointed,on the plus side my set in Oslo was killer

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 5:19 PM

so no zomby?

is he cursed, like the filmmaker paul sharits, always in the wrong place at the wrong time? hope his luck changes...

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 6:35 PM

show tonight was sick

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 11:12 PM

Who's Paul? Why did he die?

Posted by Regular reader | August 14, 2009 11:28 PM

What's that mp3 on top?
There's absolutely no info about what song or what band is being remixed. A little help over here, oh great master of misinformation gleaned from pr firms L and R. Just a word or two, if that's not too much to ask bv.

Posted by Continental shade | August 15, 2009 12:25 AM

Tonights show was absolutely wonderful.
Amazing stage setup. Amazing setlist.
What more could I ask for?

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 12:31 AM

totally stupid show tonight. both BD & AC rocked crazy/ hard.

About halfway thru the set AC slowed down a bit, but finished strong + 3 encores.

also played 'chores' from Strawberry Jam.

BD played intense 45 min opening set.

about half the audience was into it & the other half were just staring into space.......................

Posted by capt mission | August 15, 2009 12:36 AM

"About halfway thru the set AC slowed down a bit"

You must not have seen them before. Let me guess, 'Daily Routine' lost you...

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 12:44 AM

What Would I Want Sky
My Girls
You Could Win a Rabbit
Summertime Clothes
Slippi
Daily Routine
Chores
What sounded like a reworking of Comfy in N. but I could be wrong.
Fireworks(medley)
Brothersport

encore:
Lion in a Coma
Guys Eyes
Leaf House

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 12:49 AM

hey they played almost the same exact setlist as they've been playing the past few months! AMAAAAAAAZIIIIIING! honestly though, the show was alright, but the crowd made it unbearable.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 12:53 AM

"You must not have seen them before. Let me guess, 'Daily Routine' lost you..."

actually i've seen them at least a half a dozen times. i find some of their slower pts not all that engaging.

you are right about "daily routine": it is one of their weaker pieces.

Posted by capt mission | August 15, 2009 12:55 AM

can I go @ 5:30 and get spot up close, or should I wait a little early beforehand?

If friday got Chores I hope Saturday gets #1 or Grass!

Posted by Pedro | August 15, 2009 1:28 AM

show was pretty boring. they dont seem to be trying very hard these days for their live sets.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 2:46 AM

actually i've seen them at least a half a dozen times. i find some of their slower pts not all that engaging

Posted by boya | August 15, 2009 7:02 AM

setlist is wrong. we also got peacebone.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 9:44 AM

@ Pedro

yes, even tho fri show sold out, no need to stand in line. just go to the front entry and crash the line anytime. just drunk/stoned dumb ass college kids (and younger).
won't say a peep.

stage left didn't fill up until 8pm.

be prepared for the young cunts to talk, text, and cackle thru out the performance.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 9:44 AM

great show! Much much better then the TVOTR radio earlier this week.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 9:46 AM

dont go up front at an anco show. its just douchebag tweens. even though it was the same fucking thing they've done since 2007, i enjoyed the show because i was standing in the middle of the crowd, and no 14 year old was pushing/telling me how big of a fan they were/'grinding on their keut girlfriend'

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 10:12 AM

peacebone was not played.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 10:23 AM

i was digging that blonde in the white dress with the big tits.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 10:55 AM

what's the deal with chilling outside the gates? was there big crowd outside? interested in seeing AC, but gotta say that I don't love 'em $35 worth, so curious what the 'outside' scene was like?

Posted by brian Roach | August 15, 2009 10:58 AM

They were fucking ridiculous last night. Danced my ass for for about an hour and a half straight, they just didn't let up. Great setlist, great set decoration... really one of the best shows to I've been to this year. I would go again tonight if I wasn't so fucking beat and my feet weren't so goddamn tired.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 11:10 AM

"they dont seem to be trying very hard these days for their live sets."

Have they ever? Putting a miners hat on and bobbing up and down does not make a stage show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 11:10 AM

there was a LOT more going on than a guy in "miner's hat bobbing up and down." very nice stage set/ lighting and they all seemed totally immersed in what they were doing.

also for $30 bucks a very entertaining night, esp w Black Dice as an opener + DJ set. if you like that sort of thing.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 11:19 AM

That was the worst stage setup I've ever seen in my life. I have a feeling they put a bunch of first graders and/or retards together and had them piece everything together. At least the show was good.

Posted by Venkman | August 15, 2009 11:32 AM

the stage design had a goofy/ whimsical feel to it. it wasn't supposed to look like something by steven spielberg. didn't give it a second thought. i was there for the music..........

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 11:45 AM

No Zomby?!!! That suxxxxx

Anyone know who is going to fill in?

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 11:54 AM

"the stage design had a goofy/ whimsical feel to it. it wasn't supposed to look like something by steven spielberg. didn't give it a second thought. i was there for the music.........."

Goofy/whimsical apparently doesn't work that well then.

XXXchange is taking Zombie spot tonight

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 12:42 PM

since there appears to be no opener on saturday how certain is it that they're set is at 8:15? the prospect park celebrate brooklyn site suggests an hour after doors music starts, but even with the dj set that puts it closer to 7:30? i don't particularly want to get there early, can anyone tell me more?

Posted by chris | August 15, 2009 12:45 PM

oh, i'm a dumbshit, it's on the celebrate brooklyn site...

Posted by chris | August 15, 2009 12:49 PM

to answer some questions...
celebrate brooklyn tends to be very punctual about their set times, so it is very likely that animal collective will go on at 8:15 or very close to that.

as for the "outside scene," for the benefit concerts there is a fence up around the entire venue so you can't see into the concert. you can hear of course, but don't plan on seeing anything.

Posted by me | August 15, 2009 12:58 PM

they went on at 830 last night. there were a good amount of peopel listening from outside, but it wasn't crowded or anything. plenty of room both inside and out.

show was totally boring to be honest

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 1:05 PM

thanks for outside info folks. a fence? that's so lame. i mean, it's sold out right, so it's not like i'm screwing them out of money even if I wanted to go inside? but as long as I can here, that's cool, i know what they look like. thanx for tips...

Posted by brian Roach | August 15, 2009 2:53 PM

Roach: maybe they're worried about pissing off the people who actually bought tix to the show. Ya know, their customers. Why the fuck would they let your dumb ass watch the show from outside and then next year ticket sales will be low because people will realize they can see shows without paying for them.

Posted by Venkman | August 15, 2009 3:39 PM

NIGHT TWO GOT GRACE.
WTF.
FUCK THAT SHIT.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2009 2:37 AM

they played #1 omfg!!

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2009 7:16 AM

Friday night it was the new song 'Bleed', not Comfy', and we in no way had anything resembling Peacebone. Saturday, you had the full #1?

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2009 10:00 AM

Avey said his sister helped with the staging....

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2009 10:01 AM

saturday setlist? crowd? vibe?

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2009 10:59 AM

grace, summertime, leaf house, guys eyes, slippi, #1, also frightened, what would i want sky, my girls, fireworks, brothersport, in the flowers, comfy in nautica, lion in a coma

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2009 11:15 AM

What was the point of having an after party at the Bell House on Friday night if the show at the Bell House was sold out? The $5 off didn't mean anything since you actually couldn't get in. Empty gesture on behalf of the Bell House.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2009 11:38 AM
