Arctic Monkeys

"Back in March, Diddy announced via Twitter that he loved the Arctic Monkeys so much that he was planning on joining them. On Monday night at New York's Highline Ballroom, he didn't quite make it on stage but seemed content enough dancing in the crowd as the Sheffield four-piece played an intimate show in front of 700 fans. Clearly thrilled at the band's performance, the Bad Boy CEO grooved through their hit single 'I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor.' And did he.

Fresh from their slot at All Points West, the Arctic Monkeys spent much of their set trying out new material from their forthcoming album 'Humbug.' Although the album, produced in part by Queens of the Stone Age singer Josh Homme, signals a turn into darker, moodier realms, the band turned in a surprisingly muscular performance, airing a total of six fresh cuts including 'My Propeller,' lead single 'Crying Lightning' and a frighteningly heavy version of the Nick Cave's 'Red Right Hand.'" Speaking of muscular...

can you start an off-shoot blog about where Diddy has been dancing? you could also extrapolate the data to predict where Diddy will soon be, and in which cases he will also be dancing.

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2009 3:55 PM

was alexa there?

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2009 3:57 PM

This show was a lot of fun. But gigs have to start being longer than 20 songs.

Posted by Stephanie | August 4, 2009 3:58 PM

I'm ok with missing this gig because as you can see they played a bunch of new songs and I personally enjoy gigs better when I've become acquainted with them, after the release of the album. Next time I'll be there!

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2009 5:59 PM

I rarely say this about any band, but they suck. j/k...

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2009 6:04 PM

@Alexa-
At around 10pm they sold a bunch of tickets to people who were waiting since 3-6pm. I hope the tickets became available after all the loser scalpers weren't able to sell their tickets on ebay/stubhub: "Buyer must meet me at the box office" F*!ckers.

5:59 - there are no more dates in NY for this tour - do you mean you'll see them in 2 years?

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2009 6:12 PM

my crush on Alex is growing. Too bad I'm almost twice his age :|

i can't believe they didn't close with "a certain romance" - this used to be the trademark, perfect concert closer, and now they're not even playing it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2009 8:54 PM

I wish they played more from the first album. It was an amazing show though.

Posted by Dony | August 5, 2009 12:50 AM

@ 12:50- they definitely could have played more songs. yes, it was a great night, but what's with these bands with 3 albums worth of material only playing 20 songs!?!?

Hi - Going to Boston show tonight - what time did A/M take the stage?

Posted by ken | August 5, 2009 10:36 AM

hey bv, are you certain about the setlist? i didn't note 'Dangerous Animals' while jotting it down. and i guess the NME setlist was wrong as it listed only 17 songs.

and ken, they came on at 10:20pm and finished at 11:40pm at the highline.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2009 11:09 AM

@11:09 - thank you for the stage time update, makes scheduling around kid's baseball game a lot easier.... Looking forward to the show.

Posted by ken | August 5, 2009 11:37 AM

Alright, I understand they came on at 10:20 - do you have any idea when they were SUPPOSED to come on? The 'Dise in Boston says they're supposed to come on at 9:15 - did they say the same thing in NYC, then not make it out until 10:20? Anyone? Please let me know as I have a serious scheduling issue...
Large THANKS in advance.

highline ballroom told me the following before the show:

opening band comes on at 9:00pm

arctic monkeys at 9:45pm

now, being a veteran show-goer, i knew 9:45 was not going to happen, but i planned on them getting on stage at 10:00pm.

i was surprised they came on at 10:20 because the threee time i saw them previously they came on fairly early (as shows go).

i would base my arrival time on the presence of an opening band. figure the arctic monkeys will come on approx. 60-75 minutes after the openers starting time.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2009 2:38 PM

Saw on the clipboard of the doorman at Highline:

Arctic
10:15 - 11:45

So they were only 5 minutes late.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2009 2:43 PM

Thanks to everyone for the show information - moot point however... My stepson had a baseball game that we were working around, but HORRAY - just got cancelled!
Will gladly show up plenty early, put back a few and patiently wait...
THANKS AGAIN. ~ken

hi

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2009 4:33 PM

I had called the Highline the day before and was told Arctic Monkeys would go on ' around 9:30 to 9:45'. They tell you to get there earlier so you can eat/drink more.
Modey Lemon wasn't bad. AM should have played longer than an hour and 20 minutes. they played a lot of new songs.
