Bjork

"We first caught wind of this rumor last week and have finally gotten enough confirmation that we feel comfortable posting it: Avant-garde pop star Bjork and artist husband Matthew Barney are in contract on a rather phat pad in Brooklyn Heights. In the name of privacy, that's all we're gonna say and ask that commenters refrain from posting the address if they know it. Stick to welcoming two more world-class artists to Brooklyn." [Brownstoner] (via)
That August 19th blog posting was followed by two blog postings on "The Real Estalker" that were posted the same, and the next, day. The first is titled "Matthew Barney Buys in Brooklyn and Sells in Manhattan", and the other is "Buy or Lease Björk's House in Snedens Landing" (a 2nd property upstate). Video of Bjork's possibly-maybe-former house in Iceland, below...

What kind of area is Brooklyn Heights? Is it hipsterville like Williamsburg and Greenpoint? Or nice area like Park Slope?

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2009 9:22 AM

Posh, bland, boring.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2009 9:30 AM

Brooklyn Heights is a beautiful area, it's not bland at all. Boring, maybe a little, but you're a very short walk from a handful of cooler 'hoods, and there are some nice restaurants and bars in the Heights. Lived there for 6 years, and loved it. Makes perfect sense for someone like Bjork, who probably wants some privacy but also wants access to cool areas...

Barney and Bjork will be the youngest people on their block. 9:35, how are you defining "not bland"? Is Hoboken "not bland" w/ good access to "cooler 'hoods"?

For the record, I can't imagine Bjork going any where near the frat culture of Williamsburg. That neighborhood is over, where tourists and people from the suburbs go to shop and hang out.

im sure bjork is thrilled that everybody knows where she lives...totally newsworthy...i hope the people posting this info feel good when some nutcase starts stalking her (im looking at you g...)

9:30 probably lives in Bushwick

Go back to Iceland, you hipster!

Posted by adawg | August 21, 2009 9:58 AM

Man, we need to bury the word "hipster." When it gets used to describe Williamsburg post-college types and Bjork, we are witnessing a collapse of meaning.

Come on "Adawg," post your empty invective elsewhere.

Brooklyn Heights is not bland because it has beautiful tree lined streets with some of the most incredible brownstones in Brooklyn. it's got the promenade, which is a great place to hang out with amazing views of the city. How is that bland? Because there isn't some indie rock bar or club down the block? No, it's a family neighborhood (i've got 2 kids), but it has some ok restaurants, a good bar or two, a very nice indie movie theater, and it's near everything? The suburbs are bland, Brooklyn Heights is not bland! And you are a close minded idiot if you think so...

You want bland check out Nebraska!

Manhattan SUCKS ASS!

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2009 10:11 AM

Damn foreigners moving into our nice neighborhoods and ruining the property values. Somebody call INS on this invandrare scum.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2009 10:14 AM

"Manhattan SUCKS ASS!"

Manhattan is not what it used to be, but it still doesn't suck ass. Still better than Williamsburg. The city is in a decline once the masses from the midwest started moving in post '94.

If I could afford BK Hgts I'd be all over that shit. It's gorgeous there.

I currently live in brooklyn heights (well boerum hill but essentially the same) and I can tell you that it is NOT boring. it's more family oriented than other neighborhoods, sure, but it's still got smith st., which is an awesome restaurant/bar crawl. it used to have magnetic field, which was a cool little venue, but that's been closed down for.. a year or two? I'd love to see a new venue fill its shoes.

She wants to see what Patty sees:

"Meet Cathy, who's lived most everywhere,
From Zanzibar to Barclay Square.
But Patty's only seen the sights
A girl can see from Brooklyn Heights. What a crazy pair!"

"You want bland check out Nebraska!"

actually ive heard omaha is pretty cool

Posted by bobby the rookie | August 21, 2009 11:59 AM

omaha is VERY cool if you have unlimited funds to build everything that you might need in a desolate, isolated, backwater town.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2009 12:06 PM

I have a boner.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2009 12:09 PM

I have been to Omaha...the zoo is great but the downtown is desolate. There are 3 blocks in an old western styled area that is cool but other than that it was boring. I spent 2 days in Omaha and it was about a day and half too long. If you want fun in the Midwest Kansas City is where it is at plus the BBQ is awesome!

"If you want fun in the Midwest Kansas City is where it is at plus the BBQ is awesome!"

What's more, you get 2-for-1. Great value.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2009 12:21 PM

12:14 - that's the full version of my 12:06 comment. agree with you on every point incl. KC's BBQ. Arthur Bryant!

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2009 12:31 PM
