Kind of an awesome bunch, I gotta say. Usually, I don't care for much CMJing.

Yes to Cymbals eat guitars

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 10:48 AM

yay Screamales and Antlers! that first crop of bands announced is always such an odd assortment.

time for this festival to throw in the towel

I feel like every year it gets worse...

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 11:04 AM

every year you get worse.

so much negativity.

it's people like you that shout at healthcare town hall meetings.

DENT MAY

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 11:47 AM

really 11:30?

how would you have someone respond to such a waste-of-time festival that persists solely because its organizers make bank once a year collecting demo submission fees (demos they neglect to even actually listen to)?

negativity is an appropriate response to something that sucks and is a scam.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 11:50 AM

if you've lived here for years and have watched this festival decline in the manner it has, you too would be full of negativity.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 11:56 AM

I've always thought CMJ has kinda sucked, at least for the last few years. It's a schmooze fest for industry peeps and a chance for no-name bands to try to get recognized. Pass.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 12:01 PM

id like to see mum they do some crazy weird stuff

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 12:20 PM

yea i hate when there's a lot of shows/options on any given night. always a total snooze fest when there's like 20 shows per night.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 12:22 PM

CMEH.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 12:25 PM

it's New York, there are 20 shows per night every night

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 12:29 PM

my wife knows more about music than any of you. she's well-traveled.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 12:34 PM

lets hope Todd P puts on those marathons like he did last year. Best part of this is daytime shows etc.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 12:37 PM

pitbull lolololz

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 12:38 PM

CMJ has had some amazing shows.
One year at Wetlands for like 8 bucks I saw:
Junior Brown
Gillian Welch
Danielle Howell and The Tantrums
Hazeldine
Jim Lauderdale
and then a band not listed on the bill, a new band called Whiskeytown.

@Anon12:25 - I really don't want to encourage this "MEH" shit but that actually really worked.

Posted by blackhat | August 19, 2009 12:59 PM

my thoughts exactly blackhat

Posted by monsoonseason | August 19, 2009 1:06 PM

yeah anytime you can see a bunch of new bands fr 4 days fr cheap as hell at small venues, really gotta shit all over it and pass it up. fuck shit. shit sucks.thanks bv readers for reminding me how much everything sucks, i had almost forgotten.

Posted by sloweducation | August 19, 2009 1:29 PM

they need to change the name to lame-o hipster marathon!

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 1:34 PM

but... cmj really does suck

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 1:40 PM

@blackhat 12:59pm - please don't encourage the MEH person - I hate the MEH person.

The MEH person is like that annoying, cloying person you just can't shake but is always around.
AGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Oh well, guess you're nicer than I am...

AGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

meh guy sucks, but you gotta give it to him.

"CMEH." is a creative high point for him.

maybe he'll retire now, or go back to his home planet, or die.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 2:11 PM

YA DAS RACIST!!!! Thats actually fuking unbalievable.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 2:16 PM

The MEH guy is definitely not one guy. I say this as a former MEH contributor who hasn't MEHd in months. As scary as it might sound, they are legion.

Posted by sorry | August 19, 2009 2:44 PM

Well, at least we can all agree that CMJ sucks. That doesn't happen around here that much!

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 3:08 PM

Guys?

It's THE College Music Jam.

That sounds like a bundle of finger snapping, knee clicking times to me. I'll be there, heart and soul. Ready to contribute greatly to the cultural phenomena, the collection of America's great young artists / musicians / thinkers.

This truly is the pinnacle. The great moments from here to forever. We as people are at the mountain top.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 3:27 PM

who the fuck does 3:27 work for?

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 3:43 PM

More appropriately, what drugs is he/she on?? Hahaa

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 3:50 PM

If you want to go, then go. If you don't, then don't. Put your dollars where your mouth is.

If there actually is a submission fee for sending a demo to CMJ, pay it if you want.

Is there such a thing as the "music industry" anymore? Do bands even need labels to put out your CD?

Posted by Regular reader | August 19, 2009 5:54 PM

why are we even still talking about this?
cmj sucks.
hipsters suck.
meh sucks.
todays music sucks.
cmj should have hall & oats and def leppard and tiffany!
cmj = cum on my junk!

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 9:33 PM

Everyone should go see Rock of Ages instead. Good times.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 11:05 PM

I think this 12:25 MEH guy might be a beginner. I am one of the original Meh commenters and I would write it as CMehJ, which is I think superior.

Anyway, I apologize for contributing to the meh phenomena, I don't do it anymore.

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2009 12:55 AM

meh

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2009 1:44 AM

12:55 is right. cmeh just didn't seem right.

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2009 9:24 AM

I gotta get laid.

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2009 9:33 AM

boo ya shaka

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2009 10:03 AM

yes, you do. cause you have nothing better to do than to discuss "superior versions" of MEH jokes.

p.s. MEH jokes were NEVER funny

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2009 10:10 AM

i've "meh'ed" many of times and it is definitely a large group.

BTW CMJ-Cum on My Junk is hysterical.

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2009 11:11 AM

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2009 11:14 AM
