Echo & the Bunnymen @ All Points West - Aug 2, 2009, 7:50pm (by Courtney Love)
Echo and the Bunnymen

Courtney Love (and Ultragrrrl?) @ All Points West - Aug 1, 2009 (by Tim Griffin)
Courtney Love

I walked by Courtney Love at All Points West on Saturday (8/1), and thought, "That was Courtney Love. No it wasn't." Then I forgot until someone else later said, "I saw Courtney Love", and then someone else... That's when I thought, "I guess it was Courtney Love". She's been tweeting including the above picture of Echo and the Bunnymen who are on the stage as I type this (right on, or slightly behind, schedule).

#1. How can people even recognize her with all her plastic surgery.
#2. I love Echo & the Bunnymen but if I find out she is on stage with them I will have have a fit.
What exactly is she doing?

Courtney was a HUGE Teardrop Explodes and Echo fan during her teenage years. She spent time as their groupie in the UK during the 80s.

front crowd for echo seemed dead - they must have been there just to wait for coldplay.

I know am going to come off as a grumpy old man here - but the APW crowd (for the most part) are a bunch of twats.

The kids there have no respect for bands like Echo - showing off their ZERO musical knowledge and their attachment to texting useless information during a great gig. (and for watching something l horrid like Crystal Castles (why do these two have a career?)

Fuck em - kids today don't know shit.

kinda agree - at one point Ian was like WTF this is Lou Reed's most famous song - you all should know it and being singing along...

but he got nothing but a chant of "asshole"

nice APW crowd - real classy an very douchey - congrats.

Listen, All Points West has the best intentions by putting bands like My Bloody Valentine and Echo and the Bunnymen on the lineup, but fact of the matter is that this fest is for the mainstream. People were there for Jay-Z, Tool, and Coldplay.... and probably MGMT who they couldn't even see if they chose to watch Coldplay. MGMT should have opened for Coldplay, and Echo should have headlined the second stage instead of MGMT. Then everyone would have been happy.

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 12:16 AM

Ian ALWAYS does that "bait the crowd for not singing along to 'Walk on the Wild Side'" bit, even when they are singing along

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 12:27 AM

should have put echo with mbv on saturday :D

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 1:49 AM

i agree with the above statement.

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 2:09 AM

I agree with your mom.

Courtney made everybody chant "asshole" at the Seattle Kurt Cobain memorial service in 1994, while she was reading his suicide note over the loudspeaker... maybe she was trying to make this show a tribute to Kurt.

Thanks 12Am I couldn't make it or see the stream so I appreciate the setlist! Viliers Terrace and Seven Seas is sweet!

i think echo and the bunnymen were the highlight for me, so awesome

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 9:06 AM

i think i saw courtney love selling funnel cake at one of the food stands earlier.

Posted by the man with the mustache | August 3, 2009 9:24 AM

So, how bad were the conditions yesterday?

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 9:40 AM

they were bad enough, to make me skip next year

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 10:31 AM

Echo were fine--not their most stellar, but certainly good. An average Echo performance is better than posers like Crystal Castles!

The fact is , the same way the Velvets, Doors, Televsion influenced them, Echo were/are an enormous musical influence on Coldplay, so you'd think the "kids" would at least be curious.

For the record, i was on stage and the crowd were yelling asshole at the security /some fan who jumped the fence, not the band, but for a second it did seem like it was directed at the band!

Posted by zorin | August 3, 2009 12:32 PM

12:27...

that statement is incorrect. Seen them many times and that is NOT common practice for Ian.

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2009 12:38 PM

to me (from stream) it seemed Ian was really mad at the crowd or people in it - and he only really seemed to get into singing for the last few songs.

Your blog looks nice, on the other hand it would be greater if you can use lighter colors as well as a professional design. This will ensure that a lot more readers come to check it out.Informative post by the way!
