Dinosaur Jr.

Dinosaur Jr. played the last free Central Park Summerstage show of the season on August 16th (setlist below). The Walkmen, who played the Guggenheim, just blocks away, two days before, opened. So did Saviours who just announced dates with Saint Vitus and Kylesa.

Dinosaur Jr. will be back in NYC on Saturday, November 21st for a show at Terminal 5 with Sonic Youth. For DJ, that show comes at the end of a long, and previously-announced, tour. SY, who have other shows scheduled too, also just announced another east coast date at Boston's Wilbur Theatre on Monday, November 23rd. Ticket info for both shows TBA.

Dinosaur Jr.'s Lou Barlow is psupporting his new solo CD by opening most upcoming Dinosaur Jr shows with the Missingmen as his backing band. He also plays a non-DJr show at the Mercury Lounge on October 6th (an off day on the Dino Jr tour). Tickets are on sale.

then you weren't at music hall.

the sound was a mess in the park compared.

i could see this band on a weekly basis

soo hot, sunny, and sweaty but sooo worth it

in some ways, it was better than music hall (setlist wise at least, IMO)

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2009 6:02 PM

they played Sludgefeast instead of Chunks, btw

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2009 6:04 PM

on second thought, the setlist were pretty equal in quality b/w mhow and yesterday... scratch my last statement

all dino jr shows sound the same.

yeah best show ive seen all summer. so much energy from a band thats been around for 25 years. youd think they never disbanded in the first place. im not entirely familiar with most of their back catalog but either way the songs sounded excellent. based on that performance ill definitely be paying to see them with sonic youth at t5

Posted by blerf | August 17, 2009 7:22 PM

Yeah, great show. Sweat and all.

It was good, but hot as hell. Some dude was throwing up into a trash can when I arrived. Nice.

Last summerstage show? Feels like summer weather just started a week ago.

4th pic down, I am reading Faulkner's As I Lay Dying with a towel on my head. Hey, sun was beating down. Last time I was pictured on BV was at the Lucero/Pogues show in March wearing a Dino Jr shirt so this is fitting. :o)

I thought the MHoW had way more energy.

11:31 - your douche is showing.

Posted by Anonymous | August 17, 2009 11:37 PM

I always bring my book to a good concert.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2009 1:19 AM

They're so good live. They're so good period. Anyone who tries to talk smack about this band is retarded.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2009 1:20 AM

Yup, excellent show.

The setlists these days are not as good as the ones when they first reunited -- sorry, no way around it, the new material isn't as stellar as the stuff from YLAOM and Bug. But it's still good enough, and when the playing is as ON as it was on Sunday, there's reason to be happy.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2009 1:22 AM

Megan- I recommend Sanctuary. One of his lesser known books but sort of page turner.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2009 1:51 AM

Megan - I think we need to break up.

Posted by Your boyfriend | August 18, 2009 8:50 AM

They were fierce - had their game faces on from the opening note. Lou was in unbelievable form. Could have been a bit louder though! Never thought I'd say that about a Dino Jr show!

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2009 8:50 AM

8:50- that was definitely loudest show I ever seen at Summerstage, it was freaking LOUD! you hear?

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2009 8:56 AM

Lou was on FIRE! (and not just because it was so damned hot out.)

Posted by wembley | August 18, 2009 9:45 AM

I was actually surprised how good the sound was. Nice to hear them without worrying about plugs for a change.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2009 11:10 AM

Megan is hot.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2009 1:30 PM

Hey Megan..you got a myspace page by chance??

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2009 1:41 PM

now this here is a band. dirty projectors can fuck off.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2009 3:30 PM

Dinosaur Jr. are one of the few bands have reunited and not only haven't embarased themselves but are better then ever.

Posted by Anonymous | August 18, 2009 3:43 PM

Better than ever is just not true -- no way these last two albums are better than Bug. It's 100% true though they haven't embarrassed themselves. Their new music is solid good.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2009 11:30 AM

I'm sorry..I guess better than ever I meant in a live sense. I'm not sure if they'll be able to touch "Your Living All Over Me" and "Bug".
