Friendly Fires

"Chaos at the Friendly Fires performance in Brooklyn, tonight!

When a drunk fan pops up on stage at your show, you dance with her a little, then expect her to kinda dance herself off stage. When you try to get her to leave and she won't...what then?

What you are about to see [below] is only the start. Later in the show, ever more brazen fans of Friendly Fires ascend to the stage, causing complete mayhem, mostly in a good way."
[something burning]

Friendly Fires completed a two-night run in NYC last night (8/13). The above-mentioned show took place at Music Hall of Williamsburg. The above-mentioned video is below along with more pictures from the show that took place one night earlier at Le Poisson Rouge in Manhattan....

I guess thats what happens to people who wanna dance to crappy music with some douche with little kid pants on.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 3:48 AM

who's giant head is in the first picture? that d-bag always weasels his way in front of everyone at shows to take shitty pictures.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 3:56 AM

not sure if that equals "chaos". that hard fest thing is probably what i would describe chaos.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 5:17 AM

that's the craziest thing i've seen since breakfast.

Posted by throt | August 14, 2009 8:17 AM

I think her name is MEH-gan.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 8:27 AM

Friendly Fires: relax, don't throw your fans off the stage!

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 8:40 AM

"I think her name is MEH-gan"

I usually think that the "MEH" comments are pretty lame, but that one made LOL.

Kudos to you, Anon 8:27

That was a riveting video. It kept my eyes glued to the screen the whole time!

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 8:52 AM

Oh fuck, I'm embarrassed for everyone involved.

Posted by anonymouse | August 14, 2009 8:53 AM

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 9:12 AM

literally thrown off stage. i hope she sees this and never rhythmically moves her body again.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 9:25 AM

that girl sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 9:30 AM

yeah I know this is bullshit, did people boo? wtf is NYC coming to that bands can just summarily do that to their fans? That's why I like Black Lips they dont act like douchebags to their fans.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 9:30 AM

MEHyhem

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 9:36 AM

She's really bad at "grooving." Also, weakest stage ejection I've ever seen.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 9:39 AM

awesome you tube vid

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 9:42 AM

I'd hit it!

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 9:51 AM

Sounds like a Casualties show from the early '90s.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 9:51 AM

that's not one of Sarah's fat friends again is it?

those girls can't keep themselves off the stage.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 9:59 AM

i ironically LOLed, just because it seemed pretty lame..

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 10:00 AM

Thats what happens when you try to get too skinny for your skinny jeans. You can't even move chicks off the stage any longer.
Truly a sad commentary on the 20 somethings of today.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 10:01 AM

oh yeah, and why is the lead singer(?) coming up from offstage?....Shouldn't he already be in the area in which that girl was dancing?...

Posted by blablabla | August 14, 2009 10:04 AM

The whitest girl you know....jeez.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 10:11 AM

any entertainer worth his salt would grab the opportunity and dance with the chick. can you imagine lux interior just ignoring her like that?

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 10:15 AM

this is emo for hipsters.

now that GAP is making skinny jeans...emo and hipsters will mesh into one sloppy bland cultural phenomena. prepare for the mainstream tidal wave.

http://www.gap.com/

see the dude's cuffed jeans? oh god this is gonna hurt.

i dunno about you guys...but i'm gonna start wearing balloon pants.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 10:21 AM

not mayhem at all, in fact it was pretty tame even if the dude on stage couldn't get that girl off stage. but lets talk about the idiot girl standing in front of the drummer who was playing airdrums to him for the encore. That girl needed to be kicked by a mule.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 10:24 AM

Courtney Love was at LPR.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 10:26 AM

i didn't know Jason McElwain was the lead singer of friendly fires...water boy to basketball hero to lead singer in a british band - this kid is on a roll!

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 10:38 AM

Williamsburg already makes me really embarrassed to be white and makes me feel bad for Brooklyn. I was hoping that feeling was waning until seeing this.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 10:42 AM

MEHhem

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 10:43 AM

i'd hit it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 10:50 AM

The singer looks jealous to me. Look at the way he manhandled her! Pussy.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 10:52 AM

Great White should've played this show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 10:52 AM

"emo and hipsters will mesh into one sloppy bland cultural phenomena."

didn't that already happen about 3 years ago?

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 10:58 AM

Seriously..who wears chain wallets anymore?

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 11:06 AM

"not sure if that equals "chaos". that hard fest thing is probably what i would describe chaos."

Of course that is not chaos. Just another example of what passes for commentary on the internet these days. You know, like when a singer(grace jones) changes costumes all throughout a performance, it suddenly becomes a spectacle. "The show of the year." Or the usual "Killed" reference to every show. Total unintelligent and uncreative douches and idiots trying to describe an event with no real ability to discern something truly special or outrageous.

Just another great thing the internet has given us.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 11:13 AM

Ugg, He's gotta go back to rock n' roll High school.
Professor Townsend would've hit her over the head with his guitar.

Like, OMG - that was SO FUCKING CRAZZZZZZY!

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 11:22 AM

You sure it was a random drunk girl? Looked a little like Natalie Merchant to me...

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 11:30 AM

That was like maybe a cell phone commercial right? The New Wave called. They want their MTV, back.

Posted by noisejoke | August 14, 2009 11:50 AM

The vocal seemed like he tried choking her at some point ... What a looser!!!

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 11:56 AM

whats up with these photos?

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 11:58 AM

The not-so-inadvertent forearm to the back around 00:23 on is hardly a gentlemanly move, whether it's your stage or not.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 11:59 AM

Holy shit! I thought I was watching a G.G. Allin video for a minute there. That. Was. Insane. I'm just glad everyone involved is still alive.

Posted by 1st time at the Rodeo | August 14, 2009 12:02 PM

"causing complete mayhem"

OMG most mayhem ever

Posted by Dee Snuts | August 14, 2009 12:14 PM

Wow, didn't see the video at first. That girl seemed obnoxious, but I lost respect for this band for manhandling her like that. Security should have just kicked her off to begin with

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 12:17 PM

No one ever does this at the shows I go to.

Posted by Mange | August 14, 2009 12:19 PM

wait is this the same girl who jumped on stage with sightings when they played union pool 2 months ago? kind of looks like her.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 12:20 PM

Is the singer wearing Topsiders?

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 12:21 PM

Elaine Benes is that you? And to think all a long we thought she was a fictional character.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 12:23 PM

and that, friends, is why you only take celly videos at shows to document "meyhem" and not performances.

Posted by josh | August 14, 2009 12:23 PM

friendly fires suck.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 12:58 PM

Woah!I would not fuck with Friendly Fires. Did you see the way that singer almost threw that girl off the stage? He is one tough hombre. I'm too scared to even look at another one of their videos! I fear he'll jump through my screen and almost rip my head off . . . leaving me in mild pain for the next few minutes. And that would totally suck.

Posted by Mac | August 14, 2009 1:22 PM

here is another video of the incident..I think the singer was rather cruel to the girl. All she was doing was dancing to the music. Its not like she tried to attack him physically.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaIbou4Fr90

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 1:29 PM

haha that was funny! then they attempted to crowd surf her away!!
what was really awesome is when alot of fans jumped onto stage and started dancing. i even started air drumming with jack from friendly fires. fun times!!

Posted by Melissa | August 14, 2009 1:36 PM

Looks like she started pushing the gtr player around and then the singer stepped in to eject.

I would have done the same... with a roundhouse kick of course.

Posted by burg | August 14, 2009 1:38 PM

ya, it seemed like the singer didn't mind until she kinda pushed the guitarist

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 1:46 PM

At least the guitar player was grooving with her for a little while.

But yeah, fuck friendly fires. Lead singer, you are an asshole.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 1:46 PM

drunk girl in my bed. video on the internet.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 1:48 PM

"but lets talk about the idiot girl standing in front of the drummer who was playing airdrums to him for the encore. That girl needed to be kicked by a mule."

anon 10:24...meet melissa at 1:36, haha!

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 1:51 PM

Yeeaahh, don't mess with the guitarist...

Posted by BRUNO | August 14, 2009 1:56 PM

"Somebody help, an enthusiastic girl is dancing to my crappy music and scaring my poor guitarist! Security Security!"

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 2:00 PM

I would title this video "Epic Throwdown at MHOW"

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 2:04 PM

Girl needed to be thrown off. i think it may have been the same girl who jumped on stage at the phoenix show there a few months back.
I aint paying to see you dance onstage chubbs!

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 2:53 PM

give me a break, they didn't so much as shove her. considering she deserved to get slapped, i'd say she got off pretty easy.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 3:12 PM

Bullshit, if you were there you would have seen the security just before this video was shot trying to get the girl off stage, she was practically fighting them it was sick. She was being a total D-Bag. Got what she deserved, believe.

Posted by turk | August 14, 2009 3:17 PM

turk..as I wasn't there, I was only going off the videos posted on this site and had no idea of the back story..

bottom line..Sarah's fat friends need to either stay off the stage or just stay home.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 3:31 PM

Who is Sarah??

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 3:41 PM

I wanted to slap this girl. Ten minutes after this she jumped back up and tried to violently make out with Ed.

Posted by Jacq | August 14, 2009 3:44 PM

I think the drunk girl and lead singer need to sit down with Obama for a beer.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 3:55 PM

That sucked. He's pushing her face while she's mashed up against the monitor. There are better ways to handle it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 3:55 PM

the girl in the red and blue outfit in the last shot..they ruined the show by running up on stage causing FF to skip the rest of their encore.

http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2007/06/franz_ferdinand_15.html

"Who is Sarah??"

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 4:03 PM

Dammit! I hope one day I'll be in a band that gets so popular people will want to dance on stage with us.

Just so I can shove them back in the crowd where they belong.

Losers.

Posted by The Denim Demon | August 14, 2009 6:02 PM

i have to say that this has been one of the more amusing posts in recent days...lot of laughs:

a.) the fact that 10:24 said that the girl air drumming needed to be kicked by a mule...then she "melissa" later posts that it was awesome how she was air drumming in front of the drummer. i didn't see that video but air drumming in front of the guy while he is playing? that is incredibly lame.

b.) best comment - Rw@11:15...hilarious

...although i think it's cool that fans can get on stage and jam with their fav bands...i do agree with anon@10:52 that it seemed the lead singer was a bit jealous and wanted to reclaim his spotlight, but the way he went about it was total pussy shit...what he should of done is went all 2live crew and asked her to suck his dick while he finished the song.

Posted by Peter | August 14, 2009 6:53 PM

Was there any ever any explanation for why Friendly Fires took over an hour to get on stage at LPR?

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 6:55 PM

Seriously, anyone defending this girl is an idiot.
There's a difference between dancing onstage ala Girl Talk and just being a drunk jackass ruining the show for everyone.
It's pretty clear she was an attention whore and deserved whatever slap in the face she got.

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2009 7:27 PM

^But don't you think a more seasoned performer would have handled it more professionally?

Rather than shoving the girl like an anemic wuss, he could have danced in her face a la Bruce Springsteen in the Dancing in the Dark video . . . or like someone mentioned above, asked for oral favors like his name was Luther Campbell . . . or he could have pulled a G.G. and shit in his hands only to smear his feces on her face.

This guy? Total amateur.

BAHAHAHA

whats her myspace

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 11:17 AM

The fact that there is a Sarah reference in the comments cracked me up.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 12:19 PM

in that other youtube vid you could see that the guitarist and the lead singer are laughing. They were totally not being vicious. all of you need to relax.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 2:08 PM

oh, and ^same person as above^ the girl that got throw off kinda deserved it, what the bottom video doesn't is how physical she got with security and the stage hand right before she was put into the crowd. she was almost to the point of attacking the lead singer, anyone who was there knows what im talking about.

and i was completely sober and careful when i ran on stage.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2009 10:43 AM

First of all, any of you Friendly Fire haters can go F*ck yourselves. You are obviously envious because despite what you think of their music, they still get laid more in one week than all of you have combined in your lifetime!

Secondly, that girl was being obnoxious, rude, and disruptive. People came to see the band play, not some drunk girl practicing her college cheerleader routines (after she got rejected from tryouts), so they should be shown some respect and let them play their set without bothering the members of the band (pushing the guitarist, trying to grope the singer). I think the leader singer, who is totally the hottest guy ever, did the best he could using little force. Poor thing was singing and couldn't lift her with one arm. I mean, could anyone?

Posted by Anonymous | October 9, 2009 3:02 PM

FF did the right thing. The guitarist danced for a bit then she got violent.

Get over it and gtfo
