Danzig

August 25th, 2009 (Austin, TX) - Transmission Entertainment is pleased to announce the lineup for the 2009 Fun Fun Fun Fest, taking place on November 7th and 8th at Waterloo Park in Austin. Fun Fun Fun Fest made its first appearance on a cold Friday evening in 2006, offering a unique approach to festival booking, filling stages with talent bubbling from the underground: what sounded great, and what was making an impact, regardless of what mainstream media said was cool. What started out as a show for a few touring acts and local favorites has become a movement -- a festival that fans and bands alike realize needs to be experienced year after year.

Now in its fourth year, Fun Fun Fun Fest has made a significant impact on the country's winter calendar, successfully combining the vast worlds of indie, punk, rap, electronica and comedy while showcasing some of the city's most unique local businesses.

Greatest. Festival. Ever...

Too bad flights from NYC are over $400.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 4:09 PM

I can't decide if the PIP tickets are worth it. Anyone buy these in the past?

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 4:10 PM

Holy shit, would.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 4:15 PM

Really great lineup. Why do they do hip hop on a separate stage?

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 4:21 PM

Wow.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 4:21 PM

Bidip Bo!

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 4:22 PM

4:26... I hope not, but it's kinda hard not to think that. They also call it "rap" in the press release. When was the last time you heard that term post 1995 or above the Mason Dixon line?

holy fuck, flipper you guys

flipper

I'll just wait to see the five bands from the "black stage" that I actually want to see when they inevitably play NYC.

4:40,
i'm from austin and can guarnatee that's not the case. look at the stages, they're seperated by genre: dance stage (hip hop, djs, electro, etc), punk/hc, indie, etc....so kids in silver and neon don't have to sit through danzig and they can just stick by one stage they like.

4:10,
PIP is new this year. Crowds are usually manageable except for the biggest draws. Not sure where their location for the PIP viewing will be but it probably won't be as good as being down below.

this is how to book a festival

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 6:45 PM

you guys are idiots if you think genre-specific stages are evidence of racism

Posted by foster | August 25, 2009 9:19 PM

i'm starting my walk to austin now to save money on gas/flight. i'll see you all in november. HELLLLLL YEEEESSSS!

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 10:18 PM

all stages have a little something something & stages are close enough to bounce around but the dirt fucks up my sensitive sinuses, a good kick to the face from that black stage pit should fix that right up
top 6= DRI, Strange Boys, Russian Circles, Crystal Castles, Melt Banana, Harlem

PIP is new, looks like the area where they had benches and tables to eat on will be the "PIP" viewing areas where there will be some sort of platform. And hopefully they'll have a pisser or two that doesn't require a hike to 6th Street to stand in line while missing acts.

I'm not sure if the PIP includes "free" beer or just shorter lines, and possibly "better" or slighty cheaper beer. Same with the food, I would suppose.

But the whole enterprise is pretty nonchalant, so if you have money woes there's no big difference, and if you don't the price difference isn't that big a deal so might as well pony up to avoid the lines.

It's like the best of Pitchfork + Dude Fest all in one fest.

YOWZA!!!

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2009 12:13 PM

Danzig and GZA gonna do tunes together? I heard Glenn is down with the brothas

The PIP platforms are the stage next to whomever is playing.

They split one large stage and split it in two,. hence the quick changeover times. Last year the promoters let people stand on the empty half of the stage (I think that is what the PIP plat form is)

Either way, worth it! I am lucky I live here
