Girl Talk
Girl Talk

"And here I thought the week was going to start out with some slow news cycle bullshit about how I need to take my dog to vet because I think she ate something really bad last night and can't stop pooping on my roommate's shit, but lucky me! A blogger friend just called from the Williamsburg Pool parties (which I guess are called something else now since they don't happen at McCarren Pool) to tell me that Senator Chuck Schumer is hanging out and meeting his hipster constituents.

Of course this is no coincidence...Schumer happened to be on Meet the Press today, talking about giving up on a bipartisan health care plan in lieu of trying to get the Democrats' plan passed with all 60 votes from Dems in the house. And while we appreciate the effort Schumer is making in trying to get young people to care about this important topic, he DOES realize that 99.9% of kids who go to Girl Talk shows are living in Williamsburg because of their trust funds, right? I guess individual health care does make sense when your parents dole out allowances in the millions." [mediaelites]

Schumer was also recently showing his support for Grace Potter in Prospect Park.

And the show was packed. Not everyone got in. At one point they needed to stop Girl Talk because supposedly the stage was collapsing. Check out the above crowd shot HUGE. More pictures from Sunday's Pool Party (8/23), below....

That show was all kinds of awesome. Does anyone have anything remotely resembling a setlist? Thanks a bunch!

and thus ends the season of crazed fans breaking the shoddy barriers and running amok at the pool parties. grizzly bear show will be so tame. kind of a shame the pool parties are not ending with a bang!

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:02 PM

the girl puking into the toilet paper wrapper on the side of the stage was funny

Posted by bro | August 24, 2009 1:03 PM

Setlist? Hahahahahahaha.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:04 PM

Girl Talk? Setlist? That's a joke right?

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:04 PM

almost got on stage! security was kinda mean @ some point on right side kids knocked guy over!

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:05 PM

girls puking everywhere, security guards falling on people. Good times.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:05 PM

To the girl in the salmon colored tank top who never stopped crowd surfing: don't ever do that again.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:08 PM

does anyone know what the sound is like on the lawn at the side of the park?

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:08 PM

as bad as it sounded in the front of the stage

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:09 PM

i feel so old.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:10 PM

holy shit...i can't believe how packed it was! i know it's a free show...but shit.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:10 PM

It's not really a joke. That's why I said remotely resembling a setlist. There were so many great mashups but I was too inebriated to remember most of them. I understand the difficulty of doing this, so if everyone could post their favorites, maybe some would come back to me. Thanks all!

Posted by Evan | August 24, 2009 1:12 PM

Nice pics Bao!

Posted by Chase | August 24, 2009 1:13 PM

this is such an exciting time in music. they shot toilet paper around the crowd! people puked! there were people on stage! someday you will tell your grandkids you were there!

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:15 PM

As much as mash-up still sucks and I hate a lot of these people for ideological reasons, they have the right idea: PARTY.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:16 PM

teenagers love girl talk!

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:16 PM

TWEENAGE DRINKING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED

Posted by jellynyc | August 24, 2009 1:19 PM

looks like someone threw a party for the new Twilight movie

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:22 PM

yes because everyone in attendance was a teenager ...

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:23 PM

new flash: almost everyone at concerts is in their teens. even the NIN shows. get over it!

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:26 PM

SETLIST

you're an idiot

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:30 PM

When I was a teenager it was pretty hard work, or at least took being a social freak or having an older sibling to discover non-commercial music. I'm glad that I did so (via option #1), because I learned about many of my favorite albums/bands that way. Nowadays it's much easier and teenagers are into a lot of the same music that was once reserved for college students and fringe youngsters. Even though there are some unfortunate repercussions (many of which are vomit-related), I think it is great that teenagers are interested in a wider variety of music than they used to be.

Yeah, I believe it was a few songs you may have heard on your radio in your lifetime.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:33 PM

girl talk sure is a wide variety? lolol

Do you know a few of these mashups 1:30? If you could help me, that would be great. Otherwise, please refrain from insulting me, if at all possible.

Posted by Evan | August 24, 2009 1:34 PM

Yes, Girl Talk does qualify as being part of a wider variety than, say, the modern day equivalent of Limp Bizkit or Creed or Backstreet Boys who were as much corporate creations as they are bands.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:43 PM

Let's do a specific mashup question:
Does anyone remember what A Milli was cut up with?

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:44 PM

Who cares about Shumer? I saw an Olson twin!

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:46 PM

i saw a guy yelling for haley joel osment....and that's nice variety, we're talking about girltalk now not the dodos

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:51 PM

Best Pool Party ever, JELLY rules!!!

Posted by Girl Talk!!! | August 24, 2009 1:52 PM

To 1:12-- If you want to actually REMEMBER the shows you attend & enjoy, you shouldn't get "inebriated," jack-ass. No one will think any less of you if don't get completely shit-faced.

OMG! Girl Talk is breaking up! The other half of Girl Talk, who just goes by the name "Del", told Stereogum this morning that it's grown tired of touring, and getting cups of cheap beer flung at it nightly.
Del also hinted at the frustration of being the talented one in the duo, but rarely reaping the rewards.
Del, who is currently being treated at an undisclosed location for a mysterious virus, will finish commitments thru October, and then take some time off.

1:52 huh? that doesnt make any sense, and is not remotely funny.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:55 PM

1:52 is the best post on BV ever hands down.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 1:58 PM

Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean it isn't funny.....

Posted by Dennis Miller | August 24, 2009 1:59 PM

It wasn't funny 3 minutes later, either.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 2:00 PM

1:52--

Shows are quite fun if you are shit-faced. And there is additional fun to be had days later trying to remember what happened when you were piss-ass-drunk.

Although... sometimes drinking too much at a show is bad. Like Dinosaur Jr last week. The sun was waaaay too intense to be getting drunk as a skunk. That's why I just smoked a little skunk.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 2:06 PM

i cant believe so many people enjoy terrible music. its a sad era for music... every single person that went is a joke...

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 2:06 PM

does anyone know how they made the toilet paper gun?

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 2:07 PM

inb4 toilet paper gun/shitty music joke-pun

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 2:09 PM

It's not terrible music exactly. It kinda makes sense. Most of the people at the GT show are under 25, and probably mildly wistful for the college town/sticky floor/stale beer/make out with random frat guys/ watering holes that got them thru undergrad. GT is a substitute for "DJ Skank" or whatever local guy spun every weekend at the "Cranky Midget" for $50 and a sloppy BJ.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 2:12 PM

how could you enjoy this if you were not shit-faced?

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 2:12 PM

I was there. I felt old. I left early. Although being "backstage" was rather entertaining watching 17 year old rush the stage over and over again and getting thrown off over and over again. Other than that, how long can you stand and watch a guy touch his laptop?

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 2:49 PM

@ 1:52:
I agree with you that there are many instances where getting drunk is not essential to enjoying yourself at a show. Girl Talk is not one of those shows.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 2:57 PM

there i am again flipping off a stage. thanks to all the asses who didnt catch me! my back is f'ed!

Posted by georgia navajo | August 24, 2009 3:01 PM

in response to 2:49... drugs. just like going to bonnaroo. u can only listen to music like that for so long when u are on drugs.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 3:05 PM

Like him or not, he is the best at what he does. I wonder what actually artists think of him? Do they consider him a hack lot most music fans?

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 3:14 PM

I feel sad for each and every one of you who attended.

Posted by FFF | August 24, 2009 3:44 PM

I'm confused - How was this supposed to be fun? It was fucking hot. You are surrounded by a bunch of douchebags. Plus, this dude sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 3:45 PM

why do people keep saying williamsburg is all trust fund kids? i know lots of people from williamsburg and we don't have any fucking money.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 4:07 PM

I really don't care who plays...i just go for the ass.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 4:12 PM

3:14 the sad thing is that he's not the best at what he does. there's plenty of other mashup artist before and after him doing it better. he had the right time, marketing and PR on his side I suppose.
check out the hood internet or ludachrist for current good, clever, and in-key mashups

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 4:13 PM

Chcuk Schumer sucks. I asked him if he was going to support an auditing of the Fed and he said no. What a fucking corporate tool.

But Girl Talk was crazy.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 4:30 PM

Why is everyone dressed like Corey Haim circa 1985?

Posted by styles | August 24, 2009 4:39 PM

Wiz Khalifa was pretty dope. Never heard him before yesterday.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 4:51 PM

how long until GT gets booked for a bar mitzvah? seriously

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 5:03 PM

Does anyone know Max Tundra's set list?

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 5:13 PM

ABLETON LIVE IS AWESOME!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 5:55 PM

In before Max Tundra gets sued by Toyota for trademark infringement.

Girl Talk or Matt + Kim? Which ones will be first to write self help books and do motivational speech tours after they are 30?

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2009 7:28 PM

I was up on stage, wearing my LION KING tie dye shirt. So much fun! and I was stealing the toilet paper, and throwing it into the crowd.

"Do you know a few of these mashups 1:30? If you could help me, that would be great. Otherwise, please refrain from insulting me, if at all possible."

the only reason people read BV is to find out when tix go on pre-sale and to insult kids like you. Insert some quote about 'meh' and girl talk and then someone asks what time daft punk went on... No one gives two shits if you were drinking because most of us are old enough to drink. you were dunk COOL now shut the fuck up and get to bed, you probably have school tomorrow.
