The [Sunday] headliners started about 15 minutes late due after previous acts Lou Reed and Band of Horses played long, but what Jane's lacked in minutes they made up for in style. Farrell, decked out in a sparkly gold topcoat with tails and matching pants, entered the stage pumping his fists in the air for "Up the Beach" while spotlights poured over the audience and a helicopter roared above. By the time he launched into "Mountain Song" the tempo was set -- heavy, lengthy crescendos, exploding climaxes and falls powered by Dave Navarro's guitar. That 2009 festival-closing Jane's set took place on August 9th which was a few days after Steven Tyler fell off a stage.Farrell slinked, twisted and jumped throughout, adding in a few hip thrusts for good measure and edging most songs along with a small introduction. "One, two, three days...Have you been to bed yet?" led into "Three Days" -- which featured a pair of dancers in powdered wigs and corsets slinking around behind the band -- and "We swore off women to get in shape for this show. We swore off liquor. I hated that rule. And we swore off stealing" to kick off "Been Caught Stealing."
For "Ocean Size," three giant Chinese dragon-looking blue waves were pulled into the first three rows for Farrell to hop offstage and mock swim in. For "Ted, Just Admit It...," the dancers re-emerged in bondage gear, seated on a bench to resemble the band's iconic "Nothing's Shocking" album cover. "You know, I'm a married man, but if it wasn't for my commitment before God I would fuck everybody," Farrell said. Jane's then re-appeared for two encores, the first featuring "Summertime Rolls" and "Stop." For the second, Farrell brought out Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry to sit side-by-side with Navarro for "Jane Says." [Billboard]

I recognize lou reed has earned the right to play a bit longer, but what he did at lolla was pretty damn disrespectful. playing almost 1/2 hour over his time, pushing band of horses back. the delay for headliners I'd place squarely on him.

Come on, who cares about JA? Lou Reed should of played an extra hour.

those pants with the "inserts" sewed in remind me of being in a k-hole at club USA! Go Perry!

Wow, look at all that show biz.

Considering Lollapalooza is Perry's creation and his band was getting to play it again after all these years, I think it was pretty rude for Lou Read to go over their allotted time and set their slot back (or shorten it, if that is what happened)...

You can say what you want about Janes but they were fantastic and in rare form. Lou Reed was a disgrace to his own name and should really practice a little before he plays. It would also not hurt Band of Horses to maybe stop? playing during Janes set. It happened with no other groups that close to each other at the show that I can think of. This is coming from a fan of all three bands.

Lou reed is a pompous ass. He made the bar shut down while he played when i saw him. So you gotta listen to his boring show w/ an empty beer.

Is Dave Nevarro a good guitar player? I can't tell.

When Jane's were around all I can remember is not liking them & thinking "fuck these drugged out rock stars" & now, seeing these pictures, I realize that I kinda miss rock stars. This looks fun & like they put a lot of work in to it & delivered for their fans. Perry Farrell & Dave Navarro both look like they were born to be on stage.

"Perry Farrell & Dave Navarro both look like they were born to be on stage."
If you've ever seen them, you know that to be a true statement. A friend of mine was fortunate enough to see their show at SXSW earlier this year and while not much of a Jane's fan he at least was able to appreciate that they were some of the best on stage live musicians he's ever seen. I was only able to catch the NIN/JA show at Jones Beach this year, which was good, but definitely not the same. Some bands you just NEED to see live to fully respect and appreciate - they are one of those bands.

Although he looks good in the pictures, seeing Perry being interviewed on the Lolla special on Fuse was unbelievable. Somehow, he looks really healthy and kinda glowing after years of damage done to his body.

Eric Avery = the coolest member of Jane's.

fuck jane's. perkins needs to assemble a banyan east coast run.

JA is pompous and somewhat embarrassing, but it made sense to me as a teenager. Eric Avery was one of the main reasons I picked up the bass all those years ago. I wish they'd play something of a normal indoor venue in New York.

Lou Reed was an asshole that day. Set times for non-headliners are clearly defined and going over by almost a half hour just to jam is disrespectful. I was glad Band of Horses kept playing.
Satellite Party + Perry's Douchebag ramblings = NO!!!! Classic Girl + Summertime Rolls = YES!!!!

this show was an absolute raw carnival of art from the helicopter's onset to the blue dragon-esque waves to the happy/healthy family bacchanalian finish. and sadly here, words can't really describe the energy, the light or the action as well as pictures. i appreciate these good looking photos of jane's, i really do, as they do at least some justice to the fantastic and decadent spectacle which unfurled that night... but showing only images of the frontman and the eyecandy is not all of what jane's is comprised. how about showing more of eric, who co-founded the band? what about stephen, who played with some crazy ailment in his elbow? i'm sure you've got some great shots of the women as they vamp in slow motion for the nothing's shocking cover in some ferocious black satin ballet slippers. where are all those images? i'd love to see them here.
