Lightning Bolt, Teeth Mountain & Talk Normal @ Broadway Backyard in Brooklyn - pics
photos by Leia Jospe

Forced to listen to that sucky band Lightning Bolt giving a concert right outside my window:( -Xtine000Lightning Bolt played Broadway Backyard on Sunday (Aug. 30th) for an afternoon show that also included sets by Teeth Mountain, Talk Normal and Hot Box. Lightning Bolt, who usually play from the crowd (like at their gig at the same venue last year), played from the Backyard's stage, with a massive array of speakers behind them.Lil Wayne is here at the lightning bolt show no shit!!! -rezound
Lightning Bolt show was fucking mindblowing. Knee is pretty fucked up from mosh. -aMetallurgist
I don't think Lil Wayne was there, but Jay-Z was at the Grizzly Bear show which was happening at the same time in the same borough. Lightning Bolt's new disc, Earthly Delights, comes out October 13th on Load Records.

This show probably was wayyy better than the pool party. And hotter, easier girls too!
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 12:48 PM
it was pretty awesome
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 12:49 PM
They destroyed.....once again.
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 12:50 PM
Wish I could have gone to both. Its possible to like both bands you know. But the waterfront show was worth it.
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 12:51 PM
they played on the stage... and it was good!
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 12:53 PM
the show was awesome! Bummed that Grizzly Bear was the same day but I've seen GB a couple times this year and Lightning Bolt doesn't come around nearly as much.

enjoy beach house and grizzly bear tons, but lightning bolt almost never plays and getting your bones smashed/ears blown/face melted right before the end of summer trumped all.
LIGHTNING BOLT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

standing on pebbly grass under a shady train trestle watching really great bands is a great way to spend a sunday afternoon

are the lightning bolt dudes playing on a STAGE? Since when do they do that?
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 1:09 PM
^ chippendale said they wanted the audience to see how much they really suck. crowd laughed.
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 1:25 PM
crowd looks grody...seems like the people there needed some post-show rain
Anyways--who's the hottie in the green dress? http://www.brooklynvegan.com/img/music/talknormal/20.jpg

I'm sorry...but in that second Talk Normal pic, the female drummer is the spitting image of David Johansson of the New York Dolls.

...and as always at a ToddP show, some 17-year old drinks one too many bottles of Mike's Hard Lemonade, and ends up a pukey, slobbery mess. Well done, Dan Deacon-esque guy in the vest and Casualties t-shirt! I hope you found your way onto the train tracks, you disgusting pile of baby fat.
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 1:37 PM
Yeah, where are the pictures of the topless asian chick?
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 1:40 PM
as usual, bv commenters' relentless need to say supposedly funny crass shit trumps the fact that this was a genuinely magical day. one of those shows you remember.
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 1:47 PM
they said they will probably be back this year. around late october-early november.

Posted by anonymous2 | August 31, 2009 2:33 PM
Go Away Silly Little HIPSTERS!! Youre not wanted here any more!
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 2:36 PM
I wonder how many people got paid to "push the crowd around" at this one.
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 2:46 PM
anyone got a setlist?
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 3:12 PM
I wonder how terrible 2:46's band must be
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 3:17 PM

Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 8:41 PM
why did they play on stage ???
Posted by BRAIN AIDS | August 31, 2009 8:48 PM
Gross? What are you talking about you fucking yuppies?
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 9:31 PM
What a gross show filled with gross people, i couldnt bare stand beside that mess. I went to the grizzly bear show where it had class and Jay-z was there!!!
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 10:02 PM
somehow spreading my blanket and picnicking in a secluded grassy lot with great music seems a lot less gross to me than standing all day a cement slab staring at a setting sun in what's basically a superfund site, surrounded by wannabe indie yuppies and blog photographers

pretty amazing to think of all the generations of hipster/art fags lightning bolt has played for...they have been doing it for a while and has always seemed like the coolest thing around...and i dont even like their music!...fort thunder=legends
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 11:02 PM
I go to shows to see the bands I like play their music. Worst part was how long it took between sets, and that was just because there was no stage hands. I thought Talk Normal was really great and Lightning Bolt were amazing, as always. Who cares what the crowd looks like? That's gross. Not the show.
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 11:03 PM
I think most of the people that went to lightning bolt show are the people who like to shit talk on BV anonymously and call other people "yuppies" and "hipsters" yet they themselves are....
struggling artists? Bike messengers?
Do tell?
They are certainly dirty and have shit taste in music
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2009 11:03 PM
^ You're shit talking on BV, so, what does that make you? Do tell? You have shit taste in fairness and objectivity.

The Unitarian Church is a great basement venue.
man, they rock.

hmm...interesting use of caps 2:36 pm
Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2009 1:16 AM
Did they play on a stage in Philly?
Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2009 3:40 AM
Rocks would have prolly been kicked inside the drum or at Brian
so i can give him the BOTD for playing on stage :(
Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2009 9:04 AM
the show was over by 7:30. how long could it have possibly taken between sets?
sure sounds like a complaint someone who wasn't even there would make, and nice damning with faint praise, by the way...

this thread only proves it, there are pretty much three varieties of people who comment on this blog:
1 - music people who have to follow this stuff because it's their lives everybody is shit talking. They're defensive and shit talky themselves, but hey it's their lives that are being talked about.
2 - teenagers and first year college student music nerds who are not especially knowledgeable or cool. They tend to amplify and repeat whatever everybody else is getting laughs saying.
3 - friendless early 30's cubicle types who used to listen to good edgy music and live alt-y lifestyles, but now are entry level yuppie libertarians who think Grizzly Bear and Of Montreal are geniuses. They tend to presume everybody shares their uptight tastes and prejudices, and that the fact of their personal tastes getting blander is a sign of cultural superiority and wisdom. They are not especially knowledgeable or cool.
group 3 are obviously the worst, the judgey-est of everybody else, and the easiest to set off. They're the most defensive and the hardest to reason with.... probably because they're leading the unhappiest lives of the bunch.
Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2009 11:30 AM
11:30 ... interesting demehgraphic summary, so which one of these three are you?
Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2009 11:53 AM
the meh guy is so annoying that he exists outside the typical three tiers.
the "let's endlessly repeat an injoke" people don't deserve to be classified because they should, by all means, be ignored until they go away.
Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2009 11:59 AM
You forgot group 4, the people who lack self-awareness and make lists.
Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2009 12:21 PM
