DOWNLOAD: Royksopp - The Girl & The Robot (w/ Robyn) (Chateau Marmont remix) (MP3)

Royksopp

The most recent album from Norwegian electronica duo Royksopp, Junior, came out earlier this year, and now the group is traveling to the US, possibly for the first time since 2005, for a short set of gigs. Two of those will happen at NYC's Webster Hall on November 23rd and 24th. Tickets for both shows are on AmEx presale now; general sale starts Friday, August 21st at noon.

According to Wikipedia, "Senior is a forthcoming album from Norwegian duo Röyksopp, set for release toward the end of 2009. The new album has been described as an introspective, withdrawn, atmospheric counterpart to energetic Junior." Junior features guest appearances by Karin of the Knife aka Fever Ray (who has two Webster Hall shows coming up too), Anneli Drecker, Lykke Li, and Robyn who sings on the song "The Girl and the Robot". A remix of that song is above. The video of it is below with all tour dates...

Do they play with a live band or is it just 2 guys standing behind a computer

I have seen them 3 times in Europe this summer, best electronica live shows i've ever been to. Those of you that manage to get hold of a ticket have all reasons to be very happy.

That remix does suck. Or maybe Im just not cool enough to understand what makes a great remix.

These are the guys who did the song that was in that Geico caveman commercial a while back, yes? "You Remind Me" or something like that? I like.

"i read they have a new singer to do all the female voices".

The singer that follows the show on the tour is the Norwegian Anneli Drecker http://www.liten.be//eMeHP .

The Junior record by Royksopp has a total of 4 singers - Robyn, Karin Dreijer, Lykkeli and Anneli Drecker.

Anneli Drecker is lead vocal on two of these tracks, "Vision One" and "You don't have a clue".

Following Royksopp live on this tour she do most of the female vocals, except for a couple of songs that is done on vocoder/ autotune by Royksopp themselves.

Live Drecker has a very strong stage appearance, and do all 4 female vocals very good. I've seen the act 3 times this summer and belive me - you will probably not experience much difference from the other 3 vocals on the record.

Anneli Drecker is one of the very best and most respected female vocals in Norway, and has been performing in different acts for more than 15 years. For electronica acts she was a founder of the European quite respect 'arctic electronica' act Bel Canto http://www.liten.be//OEKM1 at age of 16.

Sometimes Robyn also participates in the show to perform Girl And The Robot.

This has happened a total of 4 times in 2009: in London the easter, at the Roskilde festival in July, at the Way Out West festival in Gothenburg August, and latest at the great Oya festival the previous weekend.

There are some clips on Youtube showing the audience going bananas when that song + Robyn appears....

Whether she will perform in NY depends on whether she wants to have a long weekend in NY or not. She is not part of the Royksopp band act but very good friend and she loves to participate on big occations. And this Girl And The Robot song really has helped her in her career as well.

If she do come and join Royksopp for this song in NY take that as a great surprise, if not you are anyway in for a great treat by Royksopp+Anneli.

Remind Me is a track from Royksopps first record (Melody AM) http://www.liten.be//Zoxml

featuring Erlend Oye on vocals - from the acoustic act Kings Of Convenience and later with some other acts (solo performing, The Whitest Boy Alive, ...)

At stage the act ususally consist of 4 people - Royksopp themselves (2 persons), a dude playing base, and vocal. Sometimes with additional guests like Robyn.

Thanks Urbeka for the write up. I thought initially you had copied some article, but then I realized you had taken the time to write the whole thing up. I'm a huge fan of Royksopp, although Junior is my least favourite of their albums.
