Finger on the PulseFinger on the Pulse

"On what was expected to be a rainy Sunday, it turned out to be a hazy day at the Brooklyn Pool Party where Fiery Furnaces performed and Simian Mobile Disco spun some music.

If you haven't already heard this new track from SMD's upcoming album Temporary Pleasure, then have a listen." [Persona Sauna]

That new SMD track features none other than Beth Ditto of the Gossip (who have some shows coming up too). Download above. More pictures from Sunday's Pool Party (8/9), below...

I wish Simian would tour as a band "We are Your Friends" was an ace album that would be great live.

these pics make it look totally packed which it was far from being. totally boring and pointless billing.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 1:17 PM

It must have been amazing to watch two dudes push buttons on a laptop. Looks like all the 17 year olds dug it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 1:21 PM

You knew who was on the bill before you went, 1:17. Fuck off moron.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 1:22 PM

you mean the 50 (max) people that paid attention to that sonic backwoods club garbage?

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 1:22 PM

1:22 is still proudly wearing that pathetic and laughable facepaint.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 1:26 PM

did finger on the pulse dude ever get those jeans off? i bet it would be pretty hard with all the humidity in the air. actually, how did he ever get them on?

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 1:30 PM

Simian and Simian Mobile Disco are different

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 1:32 PM

beautiful view of all the waterfront condos in the background

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 1:34 PM

1:26 - Awesome post making fun of people for having fun! I'd love to go camping with you some time! I'm sure you're a really fun person to eat mushrooms with.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 1:34 PM

1:34 is right. It is not nice to make fun of the mentally challenged. no, nice it is not.

The Netherlands weren't all that terrible by the way. Should have checked them out when they were at the Delancy.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 1:43 PM

this was a lot more fun than i anticipated. im not crazy about ff, they seem kinda confused. but simian mobile was great for what it was. this was the type of pool party where you grab a few beers, people watch against the manhattan skyline, and enjoy the day. or else bounce around like a maniac in the heart of the crowd, if thats your thing. smd makes fun, repetitive, hiphop influenced electro. take it for what it is. 2 complaints: no atm in area. no "hustler."

Posted by sammyb | August 10, 2009 1:44 PM

what was up with the poor sound yesterday? seems to have been better at previous sundays.

these pics look so good!
best collection in a long time on bv.
especially like the tibetan looking streamer shots.
very well done bao

It was a very fun set.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 2:04 PM

more pics of the girl in black!

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 2:04 PM

Netherlands were great. Best set of the day.

Posted by panopticon | August 10, 2009 2:04 PM

Some of these senoritas look pretty smokin'.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 2:09 PM

When did this party become a big underage hangout? Each week these pictures just make me cringe at the thought of wading through all of them. I should probably see for myself.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 2:20 PM

where was jason loewenstein?

Posted by donn | August 10, 2009 2:38 PM

I'm a little upset that ther was no mention of Jesus at this show

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 2:58 PM

I want the NSFW pics, please.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 3:19 PM

dark meat may have been the worst band i have ever seen.

hey BV - can you blog about MeatWater? Apparently, they are having a sample sale in BK right now. This stuff just looks ridiculous!

do you guys remember that airplane with the floats that was circling over the river during the black lips show? i thought of that plane after that crash on saturday. I remember saying look at that fucking idiot showing off, he was really low and doing turns. anyone else remember that?

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 3:22 PM

The "Finger On The Pulse" guys were so lame and cheesy

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 3:22 PM

Do the readers of BV go to shows, or do they just go to BV to talk about how lame shows were that they didn't go see?

I got out there really late, but Fiery Furnaces and SMD each put on a great set...

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 3:22 PM

3:22, I remember that. It was during Fiery Furnaces and I was bored.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 3:23 PM

Please tell me you got her number, Bao.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 3:45 PM

The show was fantastic, caught Fiery Furnaces and SMD...although half the crowd left before SMD...the crowd that stayed went absolutely nuts. Opening with "My Girls" and closing with "Cruel Intentions" *thanks for using my link!*...it was just a fun and eclectic set. The afterparty was pretty cool too...

Posted by electrodrone | August 10, 2009 3:50 PM

Fiery Furnaces were great! Loewenstein was on bass, just w/ a different haircut.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 3:56 PM

i saw the girl in black carve her digits on bao's wooden leg.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 4:02 PM

^^3:56. Thanks about jason; the 1 sort of clear picture didn't look like him at all and he is key - i missed the show, stupidly-fear of a rainout

Posted by donn | August 10, 2009 4:04 PM

girl in black looks like ET and Karen Carpenter had a kid whose goal in life is to give girl talk a handjob.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 4:47 PM

i wouldnt mind recreating the meathook scene in texas chainsaw massacre with a hipster and a carabiner*

*this comment inspired by finger on the pulse dj's

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 4:58 PM

Both shows were awesome. Whoever says otherwise wasn't there

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 4:59 PM

^^^or simply doesn't agree with your opinion.

Posted by blackhat | August 10, 2009 5:14 PM

4:47 is really fat and gay.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 5:14 PM

i must admit i was a bit bored during fiery furnaces... but smd killed it. if you like electronic music, you loved that show. and btw, if you dont like electronic music, im sorry that you dont have something else to do with your time than comment about electronic music shows!!!

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 7:09 PM

Posted by anon | August 10, 2009 7:32 PM

Posted by brendan | August 10, 2009 9:29 PM

A new face in hell!

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 11:11 PM

Posted by quilty | August 11, 2009 5:51 AM

Why do the Netherlands keep getting on here and hyping up their set. @7:32 Meh'therlands

reply to - "It must have been amazing to watch two dudes push buttons on a laptop. Looks like all the 17 year olds dug it."

Hey partner, It must be great to be so narrow minded that any sound not made on an acoustic drum , bass or guitar doesn't pass for music in your rule book.

Simian Mobile Disco is the post project of a well respected "rock" band called Simian who disbanded 5 or so years ago . One of those button pushers has gone on to produce a couple hit records for the Artic Monkeys and The Klaxons.

I'm 34 and quite a few peeps in the crowd were born in the 70's as well . Could it just maybe be that you have turned into a giant square like your parents and don't 'get' music in the post rock world?

Cheers to you, you grumpy lemon sucker.

Saw FF in Tampa, she likes that blouse. As an aside, I bet it's weird not only being vaguely aware of everyone wanting to bone your sister, but having to see the dregs of hipsterdom getting boners every time you play.
