Sufjan Stevens

One of our favorite things around here [at Asthmatic Kitty] is seeing our artists meander around the country spreading great music, so you can imagine our giddiness when two of our artists decided to pal up and tagteam an east-of-Lake-Minnentonka tour. The team? Sufjan Stevens and Cryptacize.

We wanted to make this as equitable for all of the fans so there are a few things to read carefully here. Due to the sizes of the venues, tickets will be limited. With that in mind, we wanted to avoid ticket scalpers and ensure that as many fans as possible could attend these shows. Tickets must be picked up at will-call the night of the show (not mailed), tickets are non-transferable and purchaser must present a government-issued photo ID. Also, there is a two ticket limit per purchaser. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Tickets go on sale Saturday the 15th. We'll post the purchase links on Thursday, but the venues will be handling the purchasing and will turn those on when they can (we have no control over what time Saturday they turn the links "on").

Coincidentally, Sufjan also has a film and corresponding soundtrack about the BQE to be released in October as well. Although this tour has nothing to do with that... [Asthmatic Kitty]

Those tour dates, which kick off September 21st in Philadelphia, end with a four-night NYC run. Two nights at the Bowery Ballroom (October 4th and 5th) and two nights at the Music Hall of Williamsburg (October 6th and 7th). According to Asthamtic Kitty, tickets will go on sale sometime Saturday.

The new dates come after Sufjan's September 12th set at ATP NY, but before his October 24th appearance at the 92YTribeca BQE screening.

Cryptacize last visited NYC in July while on tour with Casiotone for the Painfully Alone.

sujan. sujan. sujan.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 4:44 PM

each of his albums have one good song...that he then recycles for all of the other songs on that album.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 4:47 PM

love this man, so much better than the nine inch whatevers

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 4:48 PM

i bet he's really hairy.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 4:56 PM

Remember 3-4 years ago when everyone sucked his dick? Oh well more dick for me.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 5:11 PM

i hope they sell this through TM and not through some shitty site that crashes when more then two people try to buy tix at the same times

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 5:35 PM

i understand that he'll sell this out but i don't think he's big enough that these four shows are some crazy "super small, will call only, ohmigod" event that they pretend it is. i have a little "get over yourself " feeling reading that release. its not exactly like when the white stripes played irving plaza or nine inch nails, etc.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 6:01 PM

why does everyone hate him now?

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 6:04 PM

^ because people know who he is.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 6:12 PM

@6:01 I understood the release to be more about keeping scalpers away.. he hasn't really played out in about 3 years and it seems this would be a prime scalping opportunity.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 6:15 PM

I have to say reading all of these comments made me a bit sad for humanity. Sufjan is not a trust fund baby, he works harder than most people I know and is self made. The only reason his tickets are will call only with a 2 ticket limit is so scalpers won't post them on ebay for $400 a ticket (that blows). He is also one of the most generous people I know, giving his money to charity and friends on a regular basis. I'm fine with you disliking his music...but I had to stick up for him the person because he is wonderful.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 8:09 PM

8:09

but what about sujan?

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 8:41 PM

A new face in hell!

Posted by Regular reader | August 10, 2009 11:11 PM

He could be the nicest guy in the universe and his music will still make me want to punch kittens. WHICH IT DOES.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2009 11:27 PM

Leave teh kittehz out of this, 11:27!

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2009 7:31 AM

He names an entire album after mi, and only has one date, in Pontiac no less. omg. he is so not keeping it real.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2009 10:17 AM

$400 to see Sufjan? Are you CRAZY?!

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2009 10:44 AM

i can haz sujan's baybeez?

Posted by not your mom | August 11, 2009 10:45 AM

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2009 1:13 PM

All you haters are losers. Why post here if you don't like his music, or him, apparently? Grow up or go haunt some other spot with your nasty shit. More tickets for us, yes. Bush league, y'all.

Posted by FFFFF | August 13, 2009 11:40 AM

had no problem getting a ticket to mhow.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 10:12 AM

The lack of people bitching about not getting tix = Sufjan not being as famous as he used to be.

Posted by clap your hands and say tapes | August 15, 2009 10:39 AM

Tickets to 4 NYC shows selling out in under 45 mins = Sufjan still being pretty famous.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2009 6:02 PM

Posted by Joey | October 4, 2009 7:12 AM
