worst club in nyc. I'd rather watch sports than go there so this is pretty apt.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 9:28 AM
Yeah..for concerts the area of the stage was way too narrow. You could hardly fit 50 people in front of the stage that could acutally see!
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 9:29 AM
JOCKS RULE!!!!!!!
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 9:37 AM
9:28, clearly you've never been to Santos. Or Le Royale.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 9:43 AM
A sports bar, eh? That's pretty cool, because that block is so sleepy and quiet. A sports bar will perk up that neighborhood. The residents will LOVE it!
Posted by rajah of rehab | August 25, 2009 9:48 AM
Then they should re-name it The Xannax.
Posted by greg | August 25, 2009 9:54 AM
You mean it's not already?
Posted by anonymous2 | August 25, 2009 9:55 AM
The Annex was a terrible rock club, especially their treatment of bands, the bookers, and the pay out policies. Good riddance.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 10:07 AM
they should put up a brick wall and heavy brown door in the front entrance so nobody can see in - you know, to try to make people not want to go there. oh wait...
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 10:08 AM
yeah, hurts to lose some, others... not so much. bunch of folks tried to book this spot and failed, and the people that did do some of the long term booking there were... not the best.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 10:08 AM
"The Annex was a terrible rock club, especially their treatment of bands, the bookers, and the pay out policies. Good riddance."
This. Ripping off hard working bands only works for so long until you run out of people to take advantage of.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 10:16 AM
fun parties, but they are douchebags. can't come in without a chick? shut up.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 10:22 AM
I've been to one show there and it was not a good experience. the sound guy was a total asshole too.
Posted by JT | August 25, 2009 10:23 AM
f*cing a$$holes ran that place- hey remember when i broke your bouncers nose? hahahaha. bye bye annex
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 10:28 AM
They asian girl who booked there was kind of hot.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 10:32 AM
basketball is my favorite sport. i like the way they dribble up and down the court.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 10:33 AM
Extremely rude booking person (who also worked the door), most of the time an awful selection of bands that never had anything to do with one another in a single night, got ripped off there twice in two different bands with my head-count way off what they told me it was, but honestly, the nicest sound-guy I've ever worked with (the tall, smiley one). Hopefully he moves on to better things. Overall, this shithole closing is no loss to anyone except perhaps NME.
Posted by Gorbert | August 25, 2009 10:35 AM
What the shit is the Annex
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 10:35 AM
Club NME at Annex ripped me off too! The promoter fled the scene after the show with all the money! Good riddance.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 10:49 AM
Right on...played there as well, similarly sucky experience.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 11:00 AM
good.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 11:01 AM
i saw boris here for a free show...it was sucky...even for free.
but hey, it still beats going to bushwick.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 11:11 AM
only saw one good show there ever (his name is alive, in 2007)
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 11:22 AM
The asian girl who booked there was kind of snot.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 11:37 AM
good, squared.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 11:40 AM
I thought the Club NME night was awesome. My band played there and the night was fun, and she paid us well. I loved it there, and yeah the tall sound guy was awesome.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 11:51 AM
Saw Friendly Fires there last year....definitely a random spot for the stage.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 11:59 AM
man FUCK this place, glad it's going
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 12:30 PM
Saw Ash there...for free, free booze too but that wasn't good enough becuase the bar was so difficult to get to from the stage! Anyhoo
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 12:34 PM
good riddance to bad rubbish
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 12:44 PM
I saw Chrome there. FNU Ronnies and Lamps too. got loaded for free. Annex RIP.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 1:45 PM
dumbest bouncers in town, before MHOW opened up and stole the crown.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 1:47 PM
Oh delicious justice: that I should live to see this den of asshattery closed. One of the least friendly clubs I've ever played.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 1:53 PM
the asian girl at the door sucked my cock for 5 dollars and a dimebag.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 2:03 PM
I don't understand, 9:43. Why the Santos hate? I don't love it (drinks are expensive) but certainly for a show it offers much better light/sound than a place like the Annex.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 2:38 PM
worst club, worse bouncers, worst bookers
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 2:51 PM
I was outside having a smoke one time during Tis Was when the cops invaded the place Sopranos style..It was pretty badass.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 2:59 PM
Thank God. Place is a shithole.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 3:07 PM
hey, the whole LES is a shithole
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 3:12 PM
"but hey, it still beats going to bushwick. "
Yup! Annex is a shithole, but all of Bushwick is a shithole ghetto.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 3:19 PM
i go there for the electronic music. always have a good time
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 5:11 PM
First Studio B closes, now The Annex. I am starting to believe there really might be a God.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 5:39 PM
anon@10:33 just because you come from an inferior gene pool and lack any athletic talent doesn't mean that sports are lame.
Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 6:28 PM
i'm glad to hear that. sound was good there though.
Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2009 2:42 AM
good. no techno parties there. thanks god.
Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2009 2:44 AM
was booked there when it first opened and the booker was a horrible bitch to us. we waited a few years and agreed to play there again (because a certain band had confirmed the bill, and a different booker had asked us.) well three days before the show the band canceled and we ended up playing still. the sound guy was a total douche and cut our set by 10 minutes with no warning, flipping up the lights with no warning and turning the house music on. fuck this place. worst place we've ever played. worst place ive been in the city.

The club closed on September 12th:
