The Art of Touring - a book w/ related NYC events (tonight)

Hello Everyone,The above-mentioned NYC reading & DJ sets are tonight (8/4) (not to be confused with the reading @ Union Hall) (or the Nick Cave one happening in September) .Myself [Mia Clarke of the indefinitely-on-hiatus band Electrelane] and Sara Jaffe (formerly of Erase Errata) have co-edited a book called The Art of Touring. The book features artwork, photography and writing reflecting life on the road, plus a DVD of live footage. Contributors include Sonic Youth, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Devendra Banhart, Electrelane, the Ex, Le Tigre, Explosions in the Sky, Jem Cohen, Tara Jane ONeil and many more.
The book is published by the wonderful Portland-based imprint, Yeti.
We are going to have a couple of events to celebrate the release of the book. The first will be in NYC on August 4th 2009. We will have a reading at Bluestockings bookstore in Manhattan from 7pm, featuring Sara Jaffe, Jem Cohen, Sara Marcus, myself and others. Then, from 10pm-2am, I will be DJing as one half of DARK HABITS at Bruar Falls in Brooklyn.
Any NYC-based people, it would be lovely to see you there!
Then tomorrow (8/5) at Bruar Falls:
FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS reading series:Portland, Oregon's Fontanelle Gallery is hosting an exhibition of photos from the book, which opens August 6th. The gallery is also holding a special event on August 22nd with Sara Jaffe, Tara Jane Oneil, and Julianna Bright (The Golden Bears). More info on the exhibit and event below...

Special Event Saturday, August 22nd, 6pmFontanelle Gallery is pleased to present The Art of Touring, a group exhibition featuring photography by Alissa Anderson (Vetiver), Hannah Mae Blair, Sharon Cheslow, Mia Clarke (Electrelane), Jem Cohen, Erika Spring Forster (Au Revoir Simone), Rebecca Gates, Emma Gaze (Electrelane), Megan Holmes, Andy Moor (The Ex), Tara Jane Oneil, Jean Smith (Mecca Normal) and more.
The exhibition takes place on the occasion of the release of the Square Root Books / Yeti Publication, The Art of Touring, a collection of artwork and writing based on firsthand touring experiences, edited by Sara Jaffe (Erase Errata) and Mia Clarke (Electrelane).
As any touring musician in an independent band knows, life on the road is far from the glamorous experience put forward by popular culture. Touring is frequently tiring, boring, arduous--but also inspiring and stimulating, a unique mode of travel that establishes strange and fleeting relationships to cities, towns and countries. And touring isn't just about playing music; many musicians are also writers or visual artists who find touring an inspiration for their other artistic pursuits. Drawings scribbles in the back of the van, photographs taken during gas station breakdowns, stories dreamt up during interminable sound checks--all are productive outlets for reflecting on the peculiar temporary bubble that is touring life. The Art of Touring is about the stops and starts, the brutal routines and incredible surprises, the celebrations and complaints that, sometimes despite ourselves, make us keep hitting the road.
The special event on Saturday, August 22nd will include readings and performances by Sara Jaffe (Erase Errata), Tara Jane Oneil, and Julianna Bright (The Golden Bears).
The Art of Touring will be on view at Fontanelle Gallery, 205 SW Pine Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenue) through August 29th, 2009. Hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 12-6pm and by appointment.

I really thank to one who wrote this article. I have always been reading and writing texts like this in blogs. Also, I, as a daily writer, present my respects to everyone. I just watched videos like this in research in all areas.
I think people must first research before writing.

Characters good!
I know the author's view and so I could not wait to get my hands on the book. Cover page is also looking impressive. This book is certainly well written easy reading and very accessible. This one is indeed a very nice book one must read.
