Karen O @ Lollapalooza 2009 (more by Paul Birman)
Yeah yeah yeahs

"DGC/ INTERSCOPE TO RELEASE WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK: ORIGINAL SONGS BY KAREN O AND THE KIDS. ALBUM OUT SEPTEMBER 29! LEAD SINGLE "ALL IS LOVE" OUT DIGITALLY AUGUST 25! MOTION PICTURE IN THEATERS OCTOBER 16!

Inside Karen O is a Wild Thing - as singer for the Grammy-nominated Yeah Yeah Yeahs, her wild thing is in your face, vulnerable, obnoxious, tender, exciting... a self-proclaimed "spazoid." However, to Oscar-nominated Where the Wild Things Are director Spike Jonze, Karen O and her music possess a child-like innocence, a guileless charm that put her exactly on the right emotional wavelength to sonically capture the highly-anticipated film.

To compose music for the film, O enlisted friends and fellow musicians she believed had the musical intuition that would bolster her intent to marry sound to vision. Dubbed Karen O and the Kids, the kids include Tristan Bechet (Services), Tom Biller (co-producer with Karen O and member of Afternoons), Bradford Cox (Deerhunter), Brian Chase (YYY), Dean Fertita (The Dead Weather), Aaron Hemphill (Liars), Greg Kurstin (The Bird and the Bee), Jack Lawrence (The Dead Weather), Oscar Michel (Gris Gris), Imaad Wasif (New Folk Implosion), Nick Zinner, (YYY) and an untrained children's choir." [Where the Wild Things Press Release]
As the press release says above, the song "All is Love" is out today. You can listen to it at MySpace.

In related news, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are playing Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn on September 29th. That's six days after their much larger Manhattan show at Radio City Music Hall which sold out, I am told, in less than a day (UPDATE: There are a few random single tickets still available for Radio City at the moment, so not completely sold out yet)... I'm sure the MHOW show will sell out in less than a minute when tickets go on sale Friday at noon (2-ticket limit, will call only, opener TBA).

Fantastic news. I didnt buy tickets to RCH hoping they'd add another date at a small club.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 11:40 AM

I can't imagine seeing them sitting down, and thus avoided buying tix to Radio City - so happy to see this!

"ugh- i'd so much rather see them at MHOW than RCMH..."

Wow, you have weird tastes.

/sarcasm

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 12:03 PM

I would have liked to have gotten tickets for the Radio City show... but I didn't pull any good seats... Fingers crossed for the MHOW show!

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 12:06 PM

Meh Mey Mey's

jk, I want tix to MHOW.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 12:11 PM

Just curious, on a scale of one of their best to a bad representation of what they're really capable of, how do you categorize the song "Heads Will Roll?" Serious question, thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 12:16 PM

Anyone posting 'meh' is automatically disqualified from ever getting tickets.

Posted by Pray to Jesus | August 25, 2009 12:17 PM

just heard about a mercury lounge show...no one should buy tickets to the MHOW and wait for the announcement of the merc show.

I'm serious.

I'm very serious

Posted by ROCK STARchitect | August 25, 2009 12:27 PM

the yeah yeah yeahs debut self titled ep was the pinnacle of their career...everything they've released since has been straight garbage.

Posted by peterdiegr8 | August 25, 2009 12:40 PM

Tour schedule is open 9/27, 9/28 and 9/30, as are slots at the Merc...

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 12:42 PM

Those dates are open at Maxwells too..

Posted by JT | August 25, 2009 12:46 PM

Hey 12:16, with regard to your "Heads Will Roll" question....

I have a friend who absolutely insists that the YYY's did not realize their potential until "HWR". I disagree. I really like the raw feel of the earlier material. I also like "HWR" but I think that track, and the entire new cd for that matter, is a departure from the band's original sound.

I love that you posed a question about the music itself. Too often in the BV comment section we make stupid, racist, sexist comments without discussing the actual music.

Posted by Dan | August 25, 2009 12:54 PM

what's that schmata? oy

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 1:01 PM

Those dates are also open at Radio City. Would make sense for them to add another date.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 1:18 PM

Dan, are you a lawyer or something?

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 1:22 PM

Dan is too smart for BV.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 1:40 PM

my two cents for 12:16, I like the early stuff they did, but never really liked any of the actual albums until now. I think It's Blitz is the band most fully realizing it's potential so far. They had amazing songs up to now, but never made anything that is this consistent. Heads Will Roll is not the best song they ever did, but it is certainly one of the best.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 1:43 PM

"Cheated Hearts" is probably my favorite song of theirs, but "It's Blitz" is their best album and "Heads Will Roll" is my 3rd favorite song on it, after "Zero" and "Soft Shock."

I like the raw feel of the early material too (no wait "Black Tongue" is my favorite) but I LOVE that they're not trying to stay behind with that sound. (I wish they'd stop doing "Art Star" at every show but I guess that wish will never come true.)

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 1:51 PM

At last, a way to make back that $300 i spent on NIN.

Oh come on, you know you thought about it. I just said it.

My FAVORITE SONG IS MAPS

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 2:19 PM

I heard they are playing the Annex in October as well.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 2:31 PM

i'd definitely stick my 10 x 10 in her 3 x 3 if you get my meaning.

bonggg (>_<)

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 2:33 PM

the maxwells show in 2006 was kind of best.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 2:46 PM

Hold on....The Blood Brothers! Is this shit true? Now that would be a show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 2:59 PM

Hold on....The Blood Brothers! Is this shit true? Now that would be a show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 3:01 PM

the blood brothers broke up 3 yrs ago

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 3:07 PM

10 x 10? wow, you should have your own tent at the freak show

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 3:10 PM

@Dan:
Since when has music been about the music? :) If they had blogs in the 60s, there would've been a ton of "I'd hit it comments" from young girls about the Beatles.

megachoad at 2:33

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 3:15 PM

12:16 here...thanks for the legitimate comments about the music. I am a relative newcomer to YYYs and frankly, I still haven't decided if I like them or not. I haven't seen them live yet either, so I'm hoping one of these smaller shows pans out and I can see for myself. Need to explore their earlier material, sounds like. Cheers.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 3:25 PM

@ 3.25- fever to tell is definitely their best album... but the others are great too. but after hearing all of them, i think you will agree that fever to tell is their best

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 4:24 PM

just listen to all three records, they're all great in their own way and different from each other. a band worth investigating for sure, and they bring it live.

Posted by Anonymous | August 25, 2009 5:07 PM

i agree yyys live cannot be touched! and all their cds are quality music but they always decided to go into a different direction wit each cd, so u either keep up wit them or just be a bytch azz & complain

MHWB show is on my bday i better get a fukkin ticket

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2009 1:48 AM

They are performing for the opening of the new sports bar that's taking over the Annex.

Perfect!

YYY's and NASCAR!

Posted by ROCK STARchitect | August 26, 2009 10:12 AM

Silly me, I so happen to be more excited about getting tickets at the same friday on-sale time for Tegan and Sara at Town Hall (Oct. 30 and Oct. 31).

Posted by Soooooo Jealous | August 26, 2009 12:21 PM

how can it be sold out at 12 when it goes on sale at 12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fuck how i hate ticket master!!!!!!!

Posted by susanna | August 28, 2009 12:09 PM

well that just sucks. I call shenanigans.

Posted by Half Chemical | August 28, 2009 12:11 PM

I got tix, but had to keep refreshing the ticketmaster page right before 12, and then jumped on that as soon as they came on. I imagine a lot of people did the same...

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2009 12:13 PM

So did this sell out in like 15 seconds? I got through at 12, yet it still told me there weren't any tickets available. Argh!

Posted by Lars | August 28, 2009 12:27 PM

same thing here.
3 computers simultaneously clicking in at exactly noon, clicking until 12:37.
Nothing.
Ticketmaster BS

Posted by ed | August 28, 2009 12:43 PM

Though I hate ticketmaster for many reasons, it isn't their fault that more of us want tickets than there are tickets. What is there fault is saying "other tickets may still be available" so we keep on trying. They should tell us it's sold out, or currently sold out so we don't waste half an hour.

Posted by karen | August 28, 2009 12:49 PM

I started at 12:00:00, had to refresh until about 12:09, then got 2. Must have slipped through a portal in the time-space-ticket continuum.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2009 12:52 PM

tickets are back onsale.

Posted by Anonymous | September 14, 2009 5:52 PM

I am stoked for this show tonight!

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2009 1:52 PM
