Trail of Dead

As the Jewish faithful begin the Rosh Hashanah holy days or Jewish New Year Friday at sunset, they will be saying special prayers and lighting special candles.

Beginning Saturday or Sunday, depending on the congregation, the sounding of the shofar - a trumpet made from a ram's horn - will begin. The ritual is symbolic of what the High Holy Days are about: a call for introspection, forgiveness and changing one's course in life, said Rabbi Charles A. Klein of the Merrick Jewish Centre.

It "asks us to wake up, to take a serious look at our lives," he said, "and not just to sleep away our lives." [Newsday]

Usher in the Jewish year 5770 this weekend with Trail of Dead and the Secret Machines. The two bands are on tour together and will play post-sundown shows tonight (9/18) at Webster Hall with Midnight Masses, and Saturday (9/19) at Music Hall of Williamsburg with Freshkills and Sleigh Bells. Neither is sold out at the moment.

Saturday night there is an afterparty at Beauty Bar in Brooklyn.

Actual Roch Hashanah event listed in This Week In Indie.

It's funny when bands that were never good and who lost all of their hype and goodwill like 50000 blog years ago still play shows. Imagine the crowd for a show like this...Secret Machines and Trail of Dead...in 2009...are you fucking kidding me?

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 2:28 PM

it's going to be douche central.

I agree Secret Machines suck, but Trail of Dead are still a force of nature

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 2:50 PM

it's sad. Trail of Dead and Secret Machines are light years better than the blog-hyped bands of 2009, especially live.

Trail of Dead redeemed themselves with the new album. it's solid

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 2:52 PM

@ 2:51 Good joke! I LOL'd.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 2:59 PM

I get how this tour can seem funny, but Trail of Dead are still relevant

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 3:16 PM

and you will know us by the trail of dreck

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 3:16 PM

Trail of Dead are gonna make history tonight guys.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 3:19 PM

And you will know us by the trail of the MEHd

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 3:19 PM

and you will think back and say hey - wasn't this the band that had an amazing first album and then every other piece of shit they spewed upon me ruined that first album worse than the Matrix II & III sullied the Matrix?

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 3:25 PM

Hahaa, seriously. I heard so much ra ra ra about these guys, went to see them at irving a couple years ago, and it completely put me to sleep. Perhaps I don't "get" them, but I wasn't the slightest bit amused. Pass.

does conrad keely ever have exhibitions of his artwork for the public, anyone know?

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 3:32 PM

I hope they share a drink at a hotel lobby and smash their instruments. Those wacky noise kids.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 4:50 PM

yo hipsters, im real happy for you and imma let you finish but Trail of Dead is one of the best live acts of all time.

Posted by Ron | September 18, 2009 4:56 PM

Trail of Dead NEVER disappoints and puts all this new blog-junk to shame.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 4:58 PM

Wow, 2:28, imagine bands actually having fans, instead of people who just follow what everyone else is doing. I like without loving both of these acts, and am not going to this show, but if that's really your standard for what shows are worth seeing you need help...you don't like anything that isn't considered cool right this very nanosecond?

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 6:59 PM

i hear they're playing some sort of secret show in bushwick with midnight masses on sunday.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 7:24 PM

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:56 PM

I heard from a VERY reliable source that Trail of Dead sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 11:14 PM

11:14 - So original. Pat yourself on the back.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2009 12:08 AM

@Anon10:56 - Exactly...what the fuck are you doing here? Bye.

here 3:32 conrad is actually carrying around the originals this tour. unfortunately most of the venues don't have the space to properly display em tho. he's going to try to put em up tonight @ MHOW! also he hangs out at the merch booth beforehand and is selling limited (badass) prints.

btw the show last night absolutely KILLED.

You haters missed a fucking awsome show last night. Secret Machines just edged it in my book. Great night for $20

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2009 12:28 PM

I was at the webster show. Secret Machines were great. Trail were missing something. Show was kinda meh. and only 1:10?!?!? Slighted

Posted by Ron | September 20, 2009 4:31 PM

^ slighted? 2 great bands for $20 and you're slighted? and you're simply nuts. webster show ruled. try getting into the crowd and feeling the energy next time.

TOD had a couple off weak records in the middle, but not only are the 1st 3 amazing, but this new one is over the top....

During the past few months I had stated that explicitly declaring these dependencies makes construction of the object more complex in my lecture at Para legal school.
