Down recently released the following statement:

"This past week Philip Anselmo did an interview with writer Dave Wedge of the Boston Herald... Within the article Mr. Wedge made some statements that are falsehoods and we wanted to clear it up before the rumor mill starts turning.

First off, Mr. Wedge states that 'Down has no plans to record after this tour.' This is absolutely untrue. The band will be writing and recording for a release in 2010.

Secondly he states, 'Rex Brown, who also played in Pantera, has left the band for personal reasons.' This is categorically and unequivocally untrue. As you all know Rex did not join this tour due to imminent health concerns. As Philip states on stage every night, Rex is the bass player in Down and will continue to be...

"We hope this clears up any questions anyone may have had." -[Blabbermouth]

Down played Nokia Theater as part of their ongoing trek with Melvins, Weedeater, and Evil Army on 9/11/09, a tour that also yielded appearances by Weedeater at The Charleston as well as Melvins at ATP. Rex Brown (ex-Pantera) is recovering from surgery removing his gallbladder and polyps on his pancreas, and was replaced by Danny Theriot on bass.

Unfortunately, no pics of Weedeater or Evil Army from this show, but dig on more Down & Melvins shots below. Full tour dates, as well as a video of Down performing the Van Halen classic "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love" also below...

Snuggie!

Evil Army didn't play, they dropped off. They only played 4 shows on the whole tour.

Do you homework!

Yeah, why are theMELVINS opening for Down? That was nice of them.

Man,this just makes me miss Dimebag... R.I.P.

Posted by TXn | September 16, 2009 2:18 PM

wait, Down headlined over the Melvins?

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2009 2:26 PM

Phil Anselmo is really fucking dumb.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2009 2:36 PM

Down were fucking AWESOME. If you're so surprised about the Melvins (who no one gave a crap about) opening for Down, why weren't you there to see them in the first place? More than likely because you don't give a shit about the fucking MELVINS any more than anyone else did or does. Down kicked it with great versions of "Stone The Crow" and "New Orleans Is A Dying Whore." The Van Halen cover was a nice touch as well.

King Buzzo is smarter than 98.7% of Brooklyn Vegan commenters.

Funny, if no one likes or is into DOWN, there was a packed house at the Nokia in Manhattan last Friday night, most of whom were wearing some form of the band's (quite nicely done) merch. More likely, these people don't read the Brooklyn Vegan, so I guess they don't really exist. Yet all the people here just ADORE the fucking Melvins, yet NO ONE could be bothered to go see them. Yep, it's Brooklyn Vegan Time, alright!

I think most Melvins fans went to their 25th anniversary show in May @ Webster and were thoroughly quenched after they played for over 2 hours. I, as a Melvins fan, cannot be bothered to go see them open for some dogshit hillbilly band that NO ONE would care about if Phil didn't sing for them. I'm sure the pedigree of Crowbar, COC and Eyehategod really brings out the people. right. and you are correct about Down fans not reading BV, more than likely because they can't operate computers and/or the the internet. It's cool though, the Melvins operate above most peoples intelligence levels and that's why they have adoring fans.

he's like a cowboy and stuffffff, but like from hell and stufffff. so like if hell had like cowboys and stufffff, then i guess he'd be one of those.

@3:19. Exactly. How much was this show? $45+ BS charges? Why would I pay that much to see the melvins open when I just saw them blow the shit out of Webster with Trevor Dunn on bass?

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2009 3:32 PM

3:32 exactly.
and who is Down?

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2009 3:36 PM

whoever they are they are not talking about love.

Nice to be patronizing with the hillbilly, redneck and Internet remarks. Hey, at least DOWN fans can afford the ticket price, while the short bus-riding Melvinoids had to stay home.

1) NOLA- it's because many who post hear are irritating poseurs.
2) I love Down and The Melvins. It's possible to like two different styles of music. Non-trend followers do that.

Wtf - relax! The Melvins and Down clearly respect each other. In the end it's just about crushing, sabbath-laden, fuzzed-out, doom riffs and both bands deliver.
