"You might hear a song and think it's from the second album, it just sounds like it." - Erlend Oye @ Bowery Ballroom

Kings of Convenience

Kings of Convenience were really good [at Bowery Ballroom] last night (9/10). they went on about 940ish. First half the show was spent debut new material, which sounds really good. Not much of departure from their previous stuff, but being that KOC has kind of signature sound, I really wasn't surprised. Then, they started busting out a bunch of tunes from their previous two records, much to the delight of the crowd. All the while, the band was very talkative and incredibly charming and funny. They ended their with a cover of "It's my party and I'll cry if I want to".

But the real suprise was the encore. The boys walked out in sang with no mics and did an unplugged version of "The Build-Up". Half way through the song, a voice started singing from the balcony unplugged. They put a spotlight on her and it was non other then Leslie Feist! The place went crazy as she belted this tune out. After a huge ovation, she came to the main stage and did a little dance and back up singing for the boys final song.

All and All, a fantastic ending to a wonderful show! [Anonymous]

Kings of Convenience, not to be confused with Kings of LEON,...
"No shit - I was talking with two girls before the show started who were from Australia, they had walked by and bought tickets at the door. They HONESTLY thought they were there to see Kings Of Leon. You should have seen the look on their faces when I said "you know you are getting ready to see Kings of Convenience, right?"" - Fresh Bread
...have no other upcoming North American dates at the moment. Last night's show was a one-off. More pictures and the setlist, below...

i rarely gush but last night's show was quite amazing. the mic-less encore of "the build up" was cool and Feist singing from the balcony was a great moment. I actually hate Feist and all the way-too-many guests spots she does with other bands but her part with KoC on Riots is her best collab ever in my opinon. So this was a real treat. I've never heard the Bowery so hushed and drawn to an artist. Erlend told me the only reason they were here playing a one-off show was because they were here doing press/interviews for their new album. Thanks to that! It wasn't for Fashion Week and sadly he doesn't DJ anymore.

Glad I missed the N.Y. show, too FEIST-y.

Hope the Kings do a TOUR.

The didn't do "Misread"? That's my favorite tune by them.

Posted by blackhat | September 11, 2009 11:44 AM

they played "Misread" towards the end...

Great show that was lots of fun. Good to be in a crowd who actually wanted to be there too. Don't know if I've ever heard a capacity Bowery audience so silent.

who's the girl in the glasses and wig?

Saw Kings Of Leon at Reading, they are so over rated - more in my blog (sorry for the plugging). Would of loved to swap that particular gig for an intimite night with the Kings of Convenience.

Great pictures, and I hope they come and play in England soon :)

worth every penny this show was last night. so simple and effortlessly artistic. reminded me why I like music so much...

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2009 6:54 PM

QFT 6:54 - how they play such intricate melodies is insane but $25 for a show without a full band? I knew I wasn't gonna hear dance with you or sorry or please, but even Jens doesn't pull this shit. I would have been WAY more satisfied with paying $15 or even $18

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2009 9:10 PM

see a shitty $15 vs. an epic $25 one. how many times have you done the first in this city? band or no band you would be hard pressed to find someone in that crowd that wasn't satisfied with that performance...

Uff da! The show was amazing... new songs, old songs, and two encore songs with Leslie Feist... I was so happy!!

Wow, I really wanted to go, but I saw that it was sold out. Wish I would have known they let people in anyway. I was front row for their show in Minneapolis a few years ago, and it was breathtaking. Damn.

we were most definitely peaceful, happy, loving ... content.
