ruthless pirates, will they stop at nothing?
Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 11:30 AM
totally...and she made zero valid arguments. it was just sappy nonsense. record your records and go on tour to make some money. god that thing was annoying...and she enlists the gayest artists to rally behind her cause. James fuckin Blunt and Keane!? GET REAL! WHAT IS DIS GAHBAGE!
Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 11:31 AM
yes, butt-piracy is a real problem in this day and age and we cannot make progress in stopping it if you immature people out there keep stifling discussion with immature comments.
Posted by pdiddy | September 24, 2009 11:34 AM
I read her blog. If she thought that was abuse, she's clearly never read the BV message boards.
Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 11:35 AM
I'd love to abuse that kitty!
Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 11:36 AM
I'd abuse it.

Maybe she realized that every argument she had was easily shot down...

"record your records and go on tour to make some money."
Yeah... and, if you happen to work on an assembly line making automobiles, you shouldn't expect to get paid for that work either! Cars should be free. If you want to get paid, you need to go out and be a race car driver!!!

"Yeah... and, if you happen to work on an assembly line making automobiles, you shouldn't expect to get paid for that work either! Cars should be free. If you want to get paid, you need to go out and be a race car driver!!!"
BV hits a new low/high. Congratulations 12:02.

12:02- that's so true. the auto industry is in the toilet right now because horrible teenagers just download free cars off the internet instead of going to physical car dealerships (those saints of society) to purchase a car for reasonable prices.
Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 12:07 PM
It is a problem, and there are valid arguments supporting why.
It's just too bad when the self-declared spokesperson for the cause is not very bright (though does make catchy music) and doesn't have much conviction.
Also that study BoingBoing sites is eh... suspect at best. Sales of music have fallen off a cliff. Record stores are closing all over the country. You don't need a study to show you how illegal downloading is hurting music sales. Just go to the old Virgin Mega Store in Union Square and see the proof.

lily allen shouldnt have started a fight she couldnt finish. way to start a blog to try and save the world. she sucks more than her sappy over produced major label garbage music.

rich girl wants more money news at 11
Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 12:18 PM
why is piracy a problem exactly?
is it because,
a) no one tours anymore
b) no one records albums or singles anymore
c) there are no new up and coming bands
well those are all NOT TRUE.
so, why is piracy a problem?
Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 12:24 PM
12:13, I think you're confusing causation with correlation. This is exactly why you DO need a study.
Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 12:27 PM

I'd pira-hit it.
Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 12:48 PM
i dont get why everyone is so anti-lily allen. If you don't think that piracy has directly led to decreased sales... well, you're simply choosing to ignore something obvious. I have plenty of friends who download music for free and put it on their ipods. If they didn't get it for free, they'd buy at least some of those songs (some they admittedly wouldn't). Everyone knows people like this. Probably many of you are like this. You honestly think plummeting music sales has nothing to do with piracy? you don't think people able to get something for free with no consequences is not directly leading them to not spend their money to get it?
music isn't a physical object. So people don't view downloading as theft. They do view lifting a CD from a store as theft because you can touch the CD. But downloading a song doesn't qualify.
i'm not saying piracy is necessarily causing irreparable damage to artists. But it is a form, perhaps a benign one, of theft. I don't see how that's disputable

Simple solution. Make CDs 5 bucks. It is absurd to charge 18.99 for something that I can make in my home for about 25 cents. Even an idiot knows the concept of economies of scale.
For me to buy a CD now, I would have to be damn sure I liked several songs on the album before I bought it. At 5 bucks a cd, I would impulse buy like crazy. Heard 1 song I kinda liked on Sirius, and then I see it at the record store. Boom. I buy it.
I only buy a few cds a year now, but if they were 5 bucks each I would probably be buying 4 or 5 a week in the record store.

she is a little spoiled piece of shit who only gives a shit about how much money she makes. fucking corporate sellout to go along with her shitty music.
Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 2:24 PM
The truth of the matter is the playing field is being leveled in the music industry right now and these artist cant fucking stand it. Almost everyone can make and distribute music over the net for free and whats so bad about that....You want money get your ass in the fucking van and play gigs otherwise step aside and let the people be heard.
Posted by turd burglar | September 24, 2009 2:31 PM
amen. for everyone who comes here to bitch about todd p, remember that these are the whiny, selfish idiots whom grassroots music is putting out of business.
Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 2:35 PM
So you guys are bitching about how greedy the industry and artists are? While demanding that they give you their hard work for free? And that you can give them nothing in return? And that's OK?
Who's the hypocrite with no solid argument here? It's not Lily Allen. It's all of you.
Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 2:37 PM
i would like to abuse that fat ho with my rod.
Posted by rod man | September 24, 2009 2:38 PM
yes, it's very hard work for her to make some whiny blog post and get her publicity photos plastered all over this blog, pitchfork, and other ones with another "I'M GONNA QUIT" tantrum. who fucking cares.

The coporations perpetrated downloading. Downloading took a 98 percent fail buisness mode to a no over head model, as well as letting big buisness do what it does best which is cry poverty.

3:03- Too many double negatives, I don't even know what you're trying to say?
Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 4:18 PM
I am troubled 1:31 by your sane and reasonable commentary on a complex issue.
I mean "com MEHn tary."

I can't believe you guys let pditty's comment pass without comment:
"butt-piracy is a real problem in this day and age "
I prefer the term ass-piracy, but, hey, whatever.
Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 4:32 PM
2:37-who says they are hard working. people like lily allen have the best producers, engineers, etc.
all that technology can do a hell of a lot for an artist with little talent.
