Motorhead

For a couple of weeks during Motörhead's U.S. headlining tour, the band's long-time basher of skins, drummer Mikkey Dee, will be filming season one of Kändisdjungeln, Sweden's version of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Of Here! where ten celebrities live together in the Malaysian jungle for 16 days. They are being watched by cameras 24/7 and the viewers will decide which celebrity will have to take on crazy and challenging contests. The contests will consist of everything from facing scary bugs to frightening heights. If the celebrities can overcome their phobias and fears, they can bring back food or other needed things to the jungle camp. Finally, the viewers will decide which celebrity will be the winner.

"I can't wait to see that," chuckles Lemmy to Canada's Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles. "He's in the Malaysian jungle, and he doesn't like bugs. And I think they have to be parachuted into the f**king thing - and he doesn't like heights either. So it's definitely going to be worth watching." Mikkey had agreed to do the TV show before the tour was booked. Says Lemmy, "I think he's already had the f**king shots, the anti-tropical disease shots."

But the tour will go on.

Velvet Revolver drummer, Matt Sorum, got the call from Lemmy and will fill in during Mikkey's absence. Formerly of Guns N' Roses and The Cult, Matt is a world-class musician. He and Lemmy have been friends since they toured together when Motörhead performed some dates with GN'R and Metallica years ago. Matt will come out to a few of the early tour dates to "watch Mikkey and get the idea," says Lem. "He'll be alright, he's a professional." [All Access Magazine]

Matt Sorum was the drummer at last night's Motorhead show at Roseland Ballroom in NYC which had almost as many bands on the bill (4) as the number of dollars some people paid for tickets (5). Opening acts at the 9/9/9 show were Reverend Horton Heat, Nashville Pussy, and The Episodes who come from Ohio and have some members that aren't old enough to drive yet. Motorhead

"After a few songs, once the pit was established, I noticed a clique of young girls (around 25-ish) who sort of formed their own little world in my shadow. They were going apeshit among themselves, reaching past me to sometimes push somebody back into the pit, then retreating behind me again. They kept banging up against my back and pushing each other into me. Next thing they're climbing up my back holding onto my shoulders getting in my ear and telling me "DUDE, YOU FUCKING RULE !!!". When I'd look back at them, they were all fist pumping and head banging and going apeshit... rocking out to Motorhead... all in the relative safety that is ME. Next I know they're grinding and rubbing all up on me... and I'm fucking sweaty and full of beer... and the music was PUMPING, and their were strobe lights... and the whole thing was just out of hand... next I know I got one girl up on my shoulders. She's playing my head like a drum, and stroking my hair and rocking out. Me? I was doing the bobble head... I hope she enjoyed it." [The SciPunk Center]

I dare anyone to call them MEHtörhead.

I don't understand why livenation posted "7:30" as the only time of the show. I figured this meant doors would open at 7:30, but silly me. Got there at 8: 25 and the Rev. was almost done. They also didn't announce the other band on the bill. livenation is so amateurish with they way they run stuff, but i guess you can afford to be when you're pretty much the only game in town.

Rev. was great, Roseland is an awful venue for them with the sound and all. MOTORHEAD was killer.

can you bring digital cameras into Roseland?

Posted by Anonymous | September 10, 2009 8:51 AM

"can you bring digital cameras into Roseland?"

I have before. Lots of people at Motorhead had them, so I assume yes.

thanks for the heads up on the cameras.

Motörhead was fantastic. Totally badass show. My ears are still ringing this morning.

Posted by Super-Extra | September 10, 2009 10:25 AM

Lesson learned 8:45:

Always call the venue before the show. Never assume that the start time on the ticket/website that the promotor lists in advance is the real start time.

Always check with the venue day/night of show.

bands are added.removed, set times changed, etc. Roseland is a pretty punctual place, Most of the time the acts go on earlier than posted.

Re: your mom

Same thing happened in Chicago. The website and ticket said the showtime was 8:30, and Sister Sin was playing before the Rev, so we showed up a little before 9:00 thinking we'd see a bit of them and all of the Rev. But the Rev was already onstage and playing when we got there! What's up with that?

Nonetheless, Motorhead killed. Mikkey was still with them at that point, too.

this show SUCKED... all the bands were good.. but the show SUCKED b/c the sound in Roseland is a nightmare!! they must not have good acoustics for loud rock music.. and the sound engineers were worse.. what kind of moron turns the drum mics so high that you can't here Lemmy's bass OR Lemmy's voice ?? couldnt here Campbell clearly either.. and could barely even here the band talking between songs, thats how muffled it was... everything was just cloudy and jumbled.. i can't believe i couldnt enjoy a motorhead set, a waste of 50 bucks

Posted by jeff | September 10, 2009 2:48 PM

um, i cant complain all the way b/c motorheads songs were great ..they opened with Iron Fist, then right into Stay Clean... Over the TOp, Metropolis, and Bomber were in there.. im into the old stuff, wish they'd play stuff from On Parole too.... out of the newerish stuff - Just Cuz you Got the Power was good, too bad you could barely here much of these songs... maybe Lemmy's mic was broken.. it sounded like it

oh.. and the only band that sounded good was Episodes... because the soundguy mustve held they're volume down...you were actually able to hear them.. the volume went louder for each successive band, and they all sounded like SH*T after that... Roseland must not be designed for rock shows .. why do bands still book there?

Motorhead can be very problematic soundwise cuz they are deaf. Last time I saw them at a house of blues the sound was fucked... every snare hit created feedback cuz there onstage monitor set up is prolly louder than the front of house. I love loud music and i love Motorhead, but their monitors being so loud cuz they are so deaf can fuck up the sound.

Where do these "motorhead chics" you speak of live & hangout???

I am in need of a hot "motorhead chic"!

Motorhead and Lemmy are amazing, consistently good songs & tours.

When I grow up, I wanna be like Lemmy!

Motorheadbanger since 1979.
