pre-sale tickets for the Rumsey Playfield Pavement show
the pavement outside Summerstage in 2008 (more by Ryan Muir)

Typically for Pavement, the decision to get back together was made in a lackadaisical way. Says [Scott "Spiral Stairs" Kannberg], "Steve [Malkmus] and I just had a conversation on the phone, and we'd never talked about it before at all. We've talked over the years, but the subject never came up. Then our agent asked us about these New York shows, so we went around to everybody in the band, and they said, 'Yeah, the time is right. If everybody's ready to do it, then we'll do it and see what happens.' There was no real impetus -- it just kind of happened naturally."Tickets for the September 21st, 2010 Pavement show at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park (otherwise known as Central Park Summerstage) are on pre-sale (at 10:00 AM) (password - ZOWEE).Right now, there's only one gig booked, a benefit at Central Park Summerstage on September 21, 2010. Says Kannberg, "We'll do some rehearsing in the new year. The Central Park shows, we'll probably end up doing one or two of those. There's festivals and stuff that we're talking to, like Coachella. After that, anything that happens in the future is in the future." [Rolling Stone]
UPDATE: a 2nd show was added after this pre-sale sold right out.

I am very happy they are getting back together but for the tickets to go on sale a year in advance - over a year in advance - is silly. It makes me not want to pay for a ticket and stand outside. Either way, like I said, I am happy they are back together. Good luck getting tickets, hopefully they are not too expensive.

Had 1 and didn't pull the trigger. This will almost certainly not be the first Pave reunion show, or the best venue, or even the first of a series of Central Park shows. Seems kind of pointless to buy tickets now. I feel like it's almost inevitable they will do ATP, and that will be the place to see them.

Ah crap something else came up that night..got to sell mine.

$50 bucks a pop! I'll wait for the MHOW show, or sit outside the gates. Especially since it's Rosh Hashanah

got 4 no problem. they are not sold out. a little on the expensive side, but whatever. i owe these guys my college years.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:08 AM
Had two, but it claimed there was an error. Now it's sold out. Fuck. You. Ticketmaster.
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:08 AM
This is just the pre-sale. Probably a very small amount of tickets allotted. There will be more shows, more on-sales, etc. Don't stress. Pavement are gonna own all of 2010.
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:08 AM
I have no doubt there will be other shows. But what know right now is that me and all my friends are going to see Pavement in Central Park. And that's a pretty sweet time no matter what.
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:09 AM
It's a benefit for the other concerts that they have in Central Park. Makes no sense, right? Kind of like when you go and they ask you to "help keep the shows free" by giving them some money.
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:09 AM
Anyone who thinks they're going to play MHOW is seriously deluding themselves. They're going for the BIG payback. Outdoor shows or bust.

Pavement will be at every festival next year I bet...including Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Austin City Limits
Also what other nyc venues do you think they will play?

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:15 AM
People who are checking at 10:04 have never gone to a well-hyped show before or something. I hate scalpers as much as the next guy, but no one who is checking that late instead of having his/her finger on the trigger at 10:00 has a right to complain.
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:15 AM
And recognize that this is just one of two pre-sales. Meaning there is one more pre-sale, and then another general sale. There are still plenty of tickets to get. Just be on the ball next time.
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:17 AM
Capacity at this venue? Anyone know?
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:17 AM
They'll end up playing Terminal 5, wait no better, Roseland Ballroom.
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:18 AM
Man, I'm so pissed at myself. Being a huge Pavement fan, I woke up early to make sure I was ready to go right when they went on sale. I had one but right when I was about to pull the trigger, my thick, shaved hipster cock did instead. It totally missed aim at my already soiled cum rag which has been soaked with man milk from all the excitement over this Pavement news the entire week, and it threw a huge, gloppy white mess on my keyboard and made it unable for me to hit the "enter" key. Anybody have any extra they'd be willing to sell at twice face value at most? I love everything by Malkmus.
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:19 AM
what about people who filled out all the right info and then ended up with a ticketmaster error? do i blame the hype?
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:19 AM
ONLY 368 more days...

no worries - they will play maxwell's
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:20 AM
Yup, Wednesday show announced. I bet there's going to be four in a row like BV speculated.
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 10:20 AM
spiral stairs said in an interview a while back that Coachella would annually try to get the band for a headliner slot, but they held out just to wait for the "right price". Most likely a couple mil.

If there were at least 4 people on BV alone, thus far, that got fucked by Ticketmaster on this, preventing them from getting to the final screen (after it claimed the tickets were reserved), what is the ratio of this happening at a big show.
I mean, I can't speak for anyone else, but I literally had the tickets sitting there, at 10:01 (I started the transaction at 10:00 on the nose), and then I got an error from THEIR site, while it was processing my credit card info. Internet still worked, browser didn't shit out; nothing. Simply their fuck up.
I mean, I realize this is an anticipated concert, but what about Springsteen, or any other huge event with a bunch of ticketbuyers simultaneously using their site? Is their failure rate that high? Fuck them, and their mothers, and their monopoly.

Rumor is they are adding another show on 11/11/11 in prospect park in Brooklyn. Nothing like the outdoors in November! Brrr...2 years and counting left!
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 11:09 AM
I heard Pavement broke up again.
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 11:12 AM
the more i hear about this the more ridiculous it sounds. as someone said on another thread, if they're back together and need money, why not perform soon instead of announcing shows that are a whole year away that are not part of any tour. they dont need to organize a tour or anything really. they can just book with any venue for one night. they can play next week/next month/next whenever if they wanted to.
i dont buy tickets to outdoor venues even like a month in advance because the weather might suck (as it did with explosions in the sky). forget about the weather, a whole year in advance is so beyond insane...
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 11:24 AM
11:24pm
Its probably due to scheduling conflicts as all members have other projects going on. They'd probably like to practice together and stuff, too. However I think the biggest reason for them to do this is because I think they want guaranteed sell out shows in NYC for fast money. In reality, they're going to play a ton of big festivals and other dates before these two shows(+) arrive. Maybe they don't want people to hear that their first reunion show is at Coachella, buy plane tickets and book hotels, spend $400 on a festival pass only to find out after April that Pavement just booked shows a few subway stops away from where they live in NYC?
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2009 11:33 AM
These shows are just a publicity stunt for the rest of the tour. You can see the headlines now:
"Pavement re-forms, sells out multiple nights at Central Park for shows a year in advance."
I think this happened cuz Gerard needs to build a new house.

anybody who answers that ad is either rich enough to not care, or deserves to get suckered. summerstage holds a shitload of people, and if you can't get tickets between that, waiting til the week of when people let go of tickets for face value since they can't go, and other dates they are sure to add, there's something wrong with you
