Mark Lanegan

"...I checked out Soulsavers [at Bowery Balllroom last night - 9/22]. I couldnt' get over how much Mark Lanegan looked like Will Ferrell, I actually kept laughing, when he wasn't singing, he looked like Will Ferrell making fun of an angst-riddled grunge singer, lurching around, awkwardly earnest. Do people make fun of him about this? I thought it was uncanny. Anyway, he does have a really cool voice, deep, smokey baritone, unique; when I see a band live I often find it's hard to discern the lyrics but he is uniquely able to cut through the instruments with his voice and articulate every word, pretty cool." [What We are Listening To]
Soulsavers' tour continues into Boston tonight (9/23). A video from a show earlier this month in Berlin, below...

This was an unbelievable show.

good press or bad press?

Show was awesome. Super tight set list - pretty much the choice cuts from the last two CDs. Lanegan even hinted at a smile once or twice. Too bad for those guys that when they looked out at the audience the place only looked 2/3 sold.

Oh well, fewer idiots to bother the rest of us enjoying it.

wow- that is seriously Will Ferrell's twin- I thought the drummer from the Chili Peppers was his twin, but I was wrong

i wish he would tour with just tour his solo work. it's still the best stuff he's done

whoa, had a brain fart there ^^

I think if you told Lanegan that to his face you might get it punched for you. It was a very nice set, the place wasn't sold out wall to wall, but it was a decent-sized crowd. All the best cuts from the Soulsavers albums were played. Well worth the price of admission, and Lanegan is still one of the best singers in rock and roll.

You mean Will Ferrell looks like Mark Lanegan, not the other way around.

the soulsavers stuff works much better live than on album...this show was fantastic though the band was way too low...i thought they really couldve used a power drummer. their guitarist is fantastic.

mark...well, mark is amazing. i can do without the cliche lanegan-isms...death, cemetary, despair...but when he is rockin, he's the best in the business.

decent crowd overall...no major douchebags like the other shows these days.

I think he looks like Zack Ward (The bully in A Christmas Story, and was also in Titus).

They also did a cover of ZZ Top's "Jesus Just Left Chicago" that was aces. Lanegan covering ZZ Top -- whoda thunk it?

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2009 10:30 PM

Lanegan's covered ZZ Top before...Precious and Grace.

Total starfucker moment: Lanegan's hung like a horse and a friend of the gays. Remember that, boys...

it's brian from backstreet boys.

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2009 10:51 AM

so the bowery was full of gays?

I saw ZZ Top last Friday and they were still great (and also played "Jesus Just Left Chicago") -- I think there's something in the air, time for a ZZ revival. They have such a strong back catalogue that Lanegan could do an entire album of ZZ covers. "Precious and Grace" is a great tune as well.

zz has a new album produced by rick rubin so you can see theyre trying to get a revival going a la johnny cash.

It's a shame to miss Mark Lanegan when he comes around. The show was phenominal!

I think I overheard something about Lanegan coming back to the US in December/January for solo shows with his band.
